IT'S A NEW DAY!!! I am felling much better. I am still having the gas pains, but they come in intense short spells. I weighed myself this morning 199.5. My first thought was YOU GO GIRL, but I'm like that is too much. I don't want to look emaciated, but rather slim and trim. I am going out later this afternoon...beautiful day in Maryland! I have been in the house since Sunday! I need some soup, vitamins, and protein shakes/water. I have spent so much on these nasty vitamins and shakes. I go back to work Monday...RATS! I am going to start exercise after my post-op appt next week. Nothing crazy, just thetreadmill 30 minutes a day. Doc said no upperbody exercise for at least 1 month. Is anyone having hot flashes??? Where in the is my port? Did I get a Big Lots band?

Hi Addypoo, Today you will face a few challenges post-op. Girl power and the will to be healthy will get you through. Rely on the people who love you and the pain meds. I tried to be super mom and damn near passed out. **HYDRATION, PROTEIN, AND VITAMINS.**

My throat feels like a seed is stuck back there. Not sure why! My voice is not the same. I think the breathing tube may have scratched my throat more that it should. My breathing is not the same a slight pain on the right side.

This is thread is too funny!!! I can picture the doctors saying damn the lapband, how about a breast lift, lipo and a wax!

My bird was flying free!!! When I woke up my boo boo (4 year old daughter terms) felt weird. I ventured down under and there was a catheter. I was told that most likely I would not have one. No biggy one less thing to do.

Yep...I detected a similiar problem the other day. Also, I think I am having hot flashes at 34. Any more surprises? -
I am feeling better too. I am still a little to wacky to drive. I have been in the house since Sunday. I am still very sleepy or just no energy. The gas is better. It comes and goes not rather than just sit ther all day. I am still trying to get in the fluids, which cause pain when I drink. I weigh in in the morning...my butt has shrunk and my face looks slimer. I want to start a slow exercise routine, but I dont' have enough energy. I don't want to get flabby.

My seven incisions are itching as well. Mt doc said not to put anything on them...same thing with other surguries. Just keep them clean and wear loose clothing.
-
Dear Patty, Just take a moment and go over all your paper work. If you have question call your doc. You paid good money for their services. Just don't get dehydrated or try to drive right now. Focus on liquids and protein...easy for me to say! I too have been struggling with the post-op diet. I resorted to taking Flintstone vitamins and slimfast shakes...the only think I can stomach. Just remember not everything works for everybody. You may have to tweak the diet, but stay true the basics...hydration, protein and vitamins. Take care!!!

Beth, All of us are here for a reason. Some of us like myself carry emotional weight as well as a matching big butt. I happen to like this peanut gallery as well as you! If I knew so much I would not be suffering with gas pain, crapping on myself, fighting the urge to hurl when I take my meds, or unable to care for my daughter. What we do or eat in our homes does not directly effect anyone on this site. Sharing our failures and successes may help the next round of people to join the site in search of much needed support and good advice. When we read messages that aren't very positive it bothers those of us who believe that kindness in our actions or words almost always benefits those in need. Since you are almost years out your experiences would be helpful to us new gals, but when they are negative we cannot hear all the good you have to say. I wish you all the best in your journey to healthiness.

Seckert08, I am with you. Lets support Patty!!! I believe in sharing the good and bad of this surgery in an honest and sometimes humerous way. I don't want Patty to sabbotage her success. I licked the sour cream off a chip and it was almost orgasmic...lol. I am on liquids until 08/21/09 then I transition to mushy foods. I believe that I could eat more, but my doc's office strongly advised me to stick with the diet. I just had major surgery and my stomach has to heal without trying to digest "real food". Good luck ladies...remember that words last longer than the scares that unite us. Also, if we did not like/love food...this site would not exist...use it to help not to hurt. See ya time for broth!!!

I noticed that my tongue is very fuzzy. I use the tongue cleaner, but it does not stay clean as long. I don't have a nasty taste.

I am five days post-op and I have loose stools. Honestly, I confused a fart with a BM yesterday. Not good!

My docs office said that I should be taking the pain meds more often. I have a 4 year old and was afraid to take the meds with us alone. My mom picked her up yesterday, so I took the meds. I took a long nap with a warm heating pad. The gas pain is still very bad! The dietician suggested Powerade Zero, Crystal Light Hydration, Centrun silver chewable and Unjury protein drinks. The pain radiates from my left shoulder/neck to my chest to my stomach. It hurts to breath. The incisions are starting to itch (healing). Am I the only person with 7 incisions? I have three on the right, three on left and one above the navel. My strong husband looked sick when he was the cuts. I am feeling better today. I still don't know where my port is, my entire tummy is soft. Again, thanks ladies for the support!!!

I paid $126.oo for a huge container of chocolate protein shake mix, and two different chewable vitamins from Bariatric Advantage. All of it makes me gag. The vitamins are like eating paper and the shakes and just nasty. My husband got the centrum silver chewable, which suck, but are slightly better. I am going to find a liquid vitamin. I am sipping on a slim fast now...which is better than the BA crap. My doc/nutritionist suggested Unjury for protein, Powerade Zero, and Crystal light hydration. She said that I should have got the plain powder instead of chocolate (which makes sense) because it is more versatile. Yesterday, I drank the Powerade Zero and felt better. I think I was dehydrated yesterday.

Ladies, i am in pain. I am going to call the dietician. I am shaking and fell very out of it. I am home by myself and a little scared. The vitamins and shakes are making me feel nausous (Spelling). If I hurl felling this bad, i think I am going to pass out. I prayed that this would be an easy transition, I guess not. I cannot fart or burp and the BM did not help. When i walk I feel dizzy, sitting makes my tummy hurt. I am getting so fustrated, I am in tears.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but these so called shakes really suck!!! I purchased the chocolate flavor from Bariatric Advantage. I'll tell you after a week of this I may go insane! I don't want to get dehyrdated or loose my vitamins stores, but darn this crap is nasty! I just spilled it on my nightgown and it looks like bird crap.
-
You'll be fine Maria!!! Take it easy when you get home, but move around as much as possible. Take care.
-
I used a heating pad last night and it helped a little. It seems like nothing helps for more than a half hours. I am going to get on the treadmill later. I fell better standing and moving around. My energy level is low.

I don't think I'm hungry, but I am constantly thinking about food. It may sound crazy, but I cannot tell sometimes if the pain in my tummy is gas or hunger. I think more gas. I hate to admit it, but I licked the sour cream off a chip . My body is taking longer that I thought to adjust to not eating. We went to Walmart this morning and I reached for the Crystal light and almost fainted. My husband was scared. I was too, but did not let him know. The pillow helped out a lot during the drive (my tummy didn't wiggle as much) . I am not consuming enough liquids. I am trying, but I am not thirsty. I do not regret my decision, but hope that mentally and physically I will be ok. Man...I wish this gas in chest would move, it hurts to breath. I worked up the nerve to remove all the bandages. Not too band, I get creeped out very easily. Good luck everyone !
-
My husband said that I passed gas all night and felt better immediately after waking up. Less than 2 hours late the gas was back again. I can hear it moving through my tummy. I had a BM this morning. My funny husband asked what did you crap...a popsicle. I hope this passes quickly.

My surgery was 08/06/09. I am returning to work 08/17/09. The gas pain sucks. It moves from my shoulder, chest to stomach.
-
Thanks ladies fo all the kind words...they mean the world to me!!! Thankfully my husband was able to pick me up. My mother is very nice, but judgemental. To ask her would be like an interview with Larry King (too many questions). When my husband is scared and cannot do anything to help he shuts down. He is Ok, now that I am OK. Thank goodness, because it takes me at least a minute to squirm out of bed. He just lifts me up without straining. It just hurt when he did not mention the surgery. Wow this gas pain is a bit much. It hurts to breath.

Karen, I am happy to hear things went well for you. I was released yesterday around 230pm. The surgery went well. It is so weird not being hungry considering I have consumed food since Wednesday around 8pm. I had to wait 24 hours to shower and it felt good. I cannot figure out how to get the bandages off. They are clear, almost like a second skin ANY SUGGESTIONS! The GAS X strips are helping. I have not passed gas or had a bowel movement since Thursday morning. Doc said to take milk of mag on day 3 if I don't have BM...TMI! I have not had much pain, I reserved the "happy medicine" for bedtime. The chewable Vitamins tastes like flavored cardboard. One word of caution..take a pillow for the ride home. My belly shook everytime we hit a bump and it hurt. I cannot tell where the port is located. I am a bit of a chicken and don't have the nerve to feel around. I have gas in my left shoulder which moves to my chest...not too bad. The doc did an EKG and blood tests to make sure that the shoulder pain wasn't related to any heart problems. I am so glad I wore a loose dress. DO NOT were jeans or anything snug. I have 6 incisions less than 1/2 inch in size and pants would have been terrible. I have been trying to drink as much as posible. I am having Jello for lunch...yummy! Monday I will start the chocolate Protein shakes. Days 1-3 diluted juice, days 4-14 Shakes and low-cal drinks (no more juice). Day 15 I start the mushy diet. Getting out of bed sucks and wiping your back side (butt) was a little painful (that turning motion) Sorry TMI! I had a thought...if my butt wasn't so big I would not be that difficult...LOL.

I don't know why I feel like crying. I will be alone today. I decided not to tell anyone except my husband. He did not say a supportive or kind word before leaving for work. I will return home sometime Friday and have no clue how I am going to get there. I tried to clean the entire house last night and do laundry. I've heard that he pain is close to that of a C-section. I had the most extreme gas pains afterwards my daughter was born. I am taking a taxi to the hospital. That is what scared me about this entire process...being alone. After today, I will not have food to confort me. I think I slept less than 4 hours last night and feel so wacky! Karen, I'll keep you in my prayers today! Gotta go...finish cleaning and drop my daughter off before the cab gets here.
