Flouro shows restriction and they won't give me fill-BUT I'm Starving!!!please help!
A Buddy replied to Just Banded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a similar situation, my Dr. does fills under fluro and everytime I drink the barium he says it is going to slow. I can see where it backs up, but it does go through rather quickly, of course it is liquid so it should go through rather quickley. So the last time I visited him he was uncomfortable giving me a fill because the barium was not going through as quickly as it should. I asked him if my pouch was stretched and he said no, it looks good. OK, he said he would give me .5cc for a fill and see how it goes. He basically told me not to come back for another fill until I stop losing weight. I am still losing, but it is sloooooow. I can eat most foods, but do have a problem with pbing if I forget to not drink with meals and do take a drink with meals. I only lost 2 lbs in July, so I am not sure if I need to go back or not, I guess I will see what happens in August. Just my 2 cents. -
I was banded on March 10th and have lost 31lbs since surgery. I need to break my peanut M&M habit and hopefully speed this weight loss up a little.

1. A favorite food that I will not eat again is fresh baked biscuits and boy is it hard not to. I work in a kitchen with fresh baked biscuits every morning, but everytime I give into temptation I regret it big time. I think I have learned my lesson. 2. A food I am having a hard time giving up Peanut M & Ms. I get the little fun size bags and limit it to one. 3. The food I am living on right now is Kroger brand light string cheese, high grams of Protein for the kcals. My snack is unsalted peanuts in the shell. Gives me some protein as well as it takes time to shell the peanuts so it automatically slows down the eating. 4. Don't really have a recipe, infact, I don't want "real" food right now, I would probably enjoy it too much and fall off the wagon.

I think I just have to vent a little bit. I went for my second fill last week and my Dr. said he thought I had too much restriction already. He did the fill under floro and when I drank the barium Fluid it slowed down when going into my stomach. Doc stated that did not look right and asked if I could eat. YES, I can eat just about what ever, I feel some restriction in the mornings, but by lunchtime I have minimal restriction. I can eat sandwiches, chicken, etc. I was losing weight up until this last fill, but I was so demoralized by the whole experience of driving an hour to the appointment, paying the co-pay, and waiting 1.5 hours to have my physician tell me I have too much restriction and he's not going to add any and basically question my ability to assess whether or not I need a fill. If there is something wrong, then I wish he would explain what he thinks is going on, but I don't think he has figured it out. I have got to get my head right. I have done well the past two days and hopefully I have gotten over my mad and can start progressing again. I just wish he would listen more, but hey he's a surgeon, you can only ask so much from a surgeon. Thanks for letting me vent, just needed to so I can move forward.

How did you determine a WL goal?
A Buddy replied to nfl1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can give you the formulas to calculate your "ideal body weight"; however, I believe it is just as important to get to a weight you are comfortable at. I would recommend not going below the ideal body weight range. For men: IBW - 106 lbs for the first 5 feet and then 6 additional lbs for each additional inch of height, plus or minus 10% For women: IBW - 100 lbs for the first 5 feet and then 5 additional lbs for each additional inch of height, plus or minus 10% For for me, my height is 5' 4" so my ideal body weight calculates to 100 lbs + 20 lbs (4 inches x 5 lbs for each inch) which equals 120 lbs plus or minus 10%, so the weight range is 108 - 132 lbs. I have set my goal for 135 lbs, and at that point will assess how I feel and if I want to adjust. Hope that helps. -

Remember that you are the one that has to live with this decision, no one else. Do not let someone push you into another direction. I was wavering between lapband and gastric-bypass and was discussing this with my primary care doc. He said, "Do not let anyone push you into a decision, because if something does go wrong you will always have some doubt in you mind that you made the right decision." or worse blame it on the surgeon or in my case possibly my husband. Those words rang very true to me. I did choose the band and am 100% positive I made the write decision. I was moving toward bypass because this is what my husband decided he wanted and the Dr wanted us to be on the same eating program, but I could never completely came to terms with having bypass and am glad I did go with my gut and have the band. Hope you find a Dr. that will work with you and for you, remember you are paying the bills.

after surgery side effects
A Buddy replied to lynmcg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Leg cramps could be from dehydration, be sure to take in enough clear liquids to meet you water needs. I did not have a BM for 5 days after surgery. I beleive because there was nothing in my intestines prior to surgery, and then only clear and full liquids after surgery, so it just takes longer. Once you get on solid foods things should get back closer to normal. At least that's what I think, I am only 10 days out from surgery. -

Can I have Caffeinated Coffee Sometimes?
A Buddy replied to Miriam's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I understand, they really push decaffeinated drinks so that they can count them toward your daily fluid needs. Caffeinated beverages are diruetics so they do not count toward your fluid intake. -
I am now 4 days post op and have noticed a distinct change in how food (liquids) taste, is this normal. I am thinking it is a reaction to the high protein foods or possibly the artificial sweeteners. Anyone have any insight?
