Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Laptastic replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I think I can safely say that we all had the same fear. It is a lot of money so spend on yourself. That is actually one of the things that keeps me motivated. I think I'd feel guilty for spending all that cash and then cheating around the band. -
How do i break through the plateau???
Laptastic replied to karebare714's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've found going all protien for a few days kick starts the weightloss again. Also, just recently, I started a weightlifting class in addition to the other workout classes I already do. That seems to have gotten me past a plateau that had lasted for a few weeks. -
Question about fills and bandster hell
Laptastic replied to Fern's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, you are in bandster hell. If you manage not to gain any weight before your first fill, you are ahead in the game. Each time you get a fill, your doctor will probably want you to be on liquids for a time...mine only suggests about the first twelve hours. With each fill, you will find more and more foods that won't work for you, so enjoy the foods you can eat now. I was a carb junkie and now cannot eat any breads or french fries, which I guess is a blessing. Good luck to you. It will all be worth it in the end. -

The only day that works for me in the next two weeks would be Tuesday the 13th. Going on a cruise the next day. If that day doesn't work for others, I understand. -

I haven't been on here in forever! I've been very very busy taking a few trips and working out a lot. I'm now doing 2 water aerobics classes, 2 Zumba classes, and 2 weightlifting classes per week. Any of you who've met me will be suprised when you see me again...I had all the hair dye removed from my hair because I became allergic to it. I'm going to have to find a new avatar with blonde hair, though the more it grows out, it will be white. -
Is something wrong?
Laptastic replied to dooglette's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Until you get your first fill, you probably won't lose any weight. Totally normal. Just let your stomach heal for now and don't worry about it. -

This year has flown by! Next month will be one year. Hoping to hit an 80 pound loss by then. Congratulations on the wii fit loss! I've heard that it's fun. -

It's too bad you're in Nebraska...you could meet us at our Red Robin gathering if you were here. -
I don't understand!!!
Laptastic replied to Bell1138's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here's the thing...with the band you get portion control, so obviously you can't eat as much, but you have to eat healthier or you can suffer from malnutrition. Exercise speeds up the weightloss, and the more you see the results, the more you want to exercise. I could always lose weight, but put it on again as soon as I got discouraged by a plateau. Now, when I hit a plateau, I know I won't gain the weight back so I continue exercising and making mostly good food choices. I see the band as not only a tool, but motivation as well. -
Such great imagery! I think I love you. My struggle has been coming to terms with how differently people treat me. My sisters are catty and make remarks like, "Well I could lose weight too if I had surgery." even though they know I go to the gym almost every day and am working my a** off...literally. People at work are nicer to me. I don't know if it's because I'm more approachable as a smaller person, or if MY attitude has become more positive, making them more comfortable. Once all the weight is gone, I wonder where my focus will be. I'll have to figure that out along the way, but I'm excited to get there. Good luck to you.

Julie, sorry about your mother in law. I hope your husband is handling it ok. When are we all going to get together again? My hubby gave me a prize for hitting the 70 pound mark and I want to show it off. -
My husband has sleep apnea and he hated wearing the mask at first...but then he realized that he was no longer tired during the day and felt well rested in the morning. I guess jerking awake from not breathing doesn't make for a good night's sleep (sarcasm). Now, he won't go a single night without wearing the mask. At least you know that once you drop the weight, the machine won't be needed. I know it's scary, but use the machine they give you - it'll keep you alive and breathing.

I got a fill on Friday...my first since May. Dr. K was great as usual, and gave me a bit of a hard time for putting off the fill I knew I needed. It's stupid really, living so close to his office and not taking advantage of it. The fill knocked me off my plateau, so I'm excited again. -

I'll be at Red Robin on Monday too, but I'll be coming from water aerobics, so I'll try to be there by 7:15ish. -

Today is my birthday! My body's gift to me was a two pound loss for the week. Cheap body...it could have given me a little more, but I'll take the two pounds. -

1.5 isn't bad...when I read this update on my blackberry, I couldn't see the decimal point. Be thankful that it WASN'T 15 pounds! -
I am self pay and I put the $9950 cost on a credit card that gives me airline miles, then immediately shifted the balance to a zero interest credit card. If I don't get it paid off by the time the regular interest rate goes into effect, I'll just transfer it again to a new zero interest card. Good luck!

Down one pound this week. Happy to have the house to myself...no need to cook for four people until Christmas time. There's way too much fattening food lying around my house even though I sent most of it with my daughters.
