My first job (that I received pay for) was working for Schraffts Candy as a Coffee-Boy in the "Grace-Line" Building in Manhattan. I was paid $.90 an hour and had to fill a cart with goodies (rolls, muffins, pastries), fill a 15 gallon coffee earn with coffee, put tea-bags, milk and sugar, and cups, stirrers and napkins, etc on the cart and then take it to 6 floors of the huge office building, stopping at each office complex. Then after cleaning up the cart, I would serve lunch to the building's workers from the cafeteria's steam-table for 2.5 hours and then restock the cart for the next coffee-break run of the same 6 floors. I was 17 and had graduated high-school, and when I told my boss that I was quitting to go to college, he said that I should consider staying, because I was such a good worker. I know he had my best interest at heart.:faint: My real first job was working (for free) for my step-father. He ran a TV repair business as a second job and needed help carrying the huge sets of the 1950's. TV sets at that time sometimes only had 5 inch or 13 inch screens but weighed more than today's 32 inch sets and were larger. So after dinner during the week and all day on Saturdays and Sundays, I got to go to strangers' homes and after carrying in a tool box or tube box, I stood there while my step-father tried to fix the TV, hoping that he could fix it there, knowing that if he could not and had to take it to our home, I would have to carry it down the stairs and then up the stairs. It really got to be fun, when he got a contract for a charitable organization that took care of home-bound (often wheel chair bound) people. People would donate TV's to the organization and (because TV's were mostly built on the same chassis) my step-father would try to make one working set from two or three non-working sets. The best part was taking the burned out power transformers and unwinding the copper wire from the transformer core and winding it into a ball for sale at the metal scrap yard. Sometimes, on Saturday, we finished early enough so that I go out and play for an hour before dark and if my hands were not bleeding too much or too sore to catch a ball, I could play with the other 11 or 12 year olds on the block. I guess the work ethic is contagious, because as an adult, I was always noted as the hardest worker on my job. So when people debate genes vs nurture, I have to vote for nurture.

Observations on Castro and Cuban-Americans
Tired_Old_Man replied to Tired_Old_Man's topic in The Lounge
It is a shame that you feel that you have a right to opinions about me, but I have no right to opinions about Cuba (or the politics of Cuba) which greatly effect my country (and vice versa). I hope your opinions about Castro are more accurate than your opinions about me (for your sake). -
I use a product called "Home Defense" (by Ortho). I spray it around all my door jams, window jams and around the garage door. I find lots of dead bugs inside my garage, but it seems that walking over the sprayed area kills them before they get too much further. I live in South Florida. I buy it at Home Depot.

Observations on Castro and Cuban-Americans
Tired_Old_Man replied to Tired_Old_Man's topic in The Lounge
I Don't know where to start. When I was in grade-school, my step-father worked with a man who was born in Spain, but was a US citizen. He used to go to Havana often to vacation at the casinos. Because he was fluent in Spanish, he did not keep only to the tourist areas and visited the surroundings. Many years later, after Atlantic City was restored, he would visit the casinos there also and occasionally check out the surroundings. He noted the similarities to me. In both cases, there was opulence surrounded by almost criminal poverty. Many of the people who fled Cuba after Castro's revolution where the people who benefited from the disparity between the (mostly white) haves and the (mostly Black) have-nots. Of course there is still rich and poor in Cuba, but it is a more level playing field than in Batista's reign. Most of the poor are not starving poor. My wife was a (legal) alien until about a year and a half ago when she became a US citizen after living in the US for almost 50 years. Because she was born in Europe, we have more contact with non-US citizens than many US citizens including some who have gone to Cuba since 1959. Some are Spanish speaking and they found that hospitals, while short on certain drugs and supplies (partially if not largely due to the USA's endeavors), where clean and efficient, and available to everyone. The school systems where also very good. A friend of mine who was born in Cuba, but lives in Europe and has gone back and forth many times says that Castro's government has helped the average man. Capitalism can make for rich men and it can also allow many people to be extremely poor. The US tax structure allows some people to be wealthier as an individual than some countries are, while others are homeless. Cuba has disparity between rich and poor, but there are no Bill Gates, Warren Buffets compared to people who sleep in the streets, differences. I have been accused of being “shameful, bitter, or hating”, but I am ashamed of nothing. I refuse to play the games of childhood. On the day I was about to have by lap-band implanted, I was given a questionnaire to fill out. One of the questions was “Race”. I answered, “Human”. The nurse assigned to go over the questionnaire, asked be why I wrote “Human”. “Because I am.” “Aren't you White?” “Would that have made a difference in the procedure?” “Aren't you proud to be White?” “No! But I am not ashamed either.” She noticed my last name and asked me if I was of Italian decent. I answered affirmatively and she asked if I was proud to be Italian. “No! But I am not ashamed either.” She told me I should be proud because of all the great accomplishments of Italians like Michael Angelo, De Vinci, Marconi and I responded, “then I would have to be ashamed because of Mussolini and Al Capone.” “Aren't you proud to be American?” “No! But I am not ashamed either.” She told me that I should be proud of all the things that this country has done, but I told her that then I would have to be ashamed of all the bad things it has done, like slavery, the genocide of the native Americans, the support of dictators throughout the world and the dropping of atomic bombs on civilians. “I will stick to being proud of what I accomplish and of being a good father and provider for my family through hard and honest work. I don't have to love my country's government to be ready to defend my country's ideals as set forth in our constitution. After Castro's government is gone, I wonder, “How many of the Cubans in Miami will leave the USA to go to Cuba? How many will like the life-style of the Cubans of Cuba and how many will turn Cuba into another indistinguishable state of the USA (though politically independent)?” I have heard the exiles say that they love Cuba. But what do they love? Not the government. Not the living conditions. Is the soil that much better? Many of the people who claim to love Cuba so much have never been there and are in love with the dreams of their parents or grand-parents. I wonder, “How many of the exiles will return to Cuba and then ask for absentee ballots, so that they can try to control two countries at once?” I said (in a humorous and sarcastic way) that many of the Cubans who have fled to the US have come because of “the stories about the street paved in gold that they hear about.” It was said in response “cubans are smarter than that..........they come here because it is practically impossible to survive there, that is the sad but honest truth.” But before we blame all that on Castro, why don't we ask if Vincent Fox is a communist. Many more Mexicans risk their lives to come here than Cubans. And if a Cuban touches US soil, he can stay, but a Mexican can be deported even when here for years after risking the deadly desert crossing and he has less support from peers. Why do the Dominicans come here? Why do the Puerto Ricans come here? It can't be the oppression in Puerto Rico. They have George W. BuSh as president. No. It is longing for a more materialistic way of life. The simple way of life is rejected constantly for the way of “gold”. Wasn't it written in a book once that the “Love of Gold is the root of all evil”? Ok, I am being playful. (It is not often that a “shameful, bitter, or hating” man like me can be so playful.) I know that people want to better themselves, but it is as much (if not more) for material betterment as for political betterment. Last, but not least: Racial prejudice. One day (a few years back) while at work, a group of mechanics including myself where in the breakroom/lunchroom watching a TV show on race relations. There were 3 whites, 2 Blacks, 2 Hispanics, one Indian-American (India) watching besides me. The comments were all intelligent, until the two Blacks had to leave, then the whites started making “nigger” remarks and the Hispanics and Indian joined in. When the Hispanics left the room, the whites made “spic” and “nigger” remarks and Indian joined in. As soon as the Indian left, one of the whites made a remark about how funny it was for the Indian to join in, because “I wouldn't let him date my sister”. Yes, things are better than 100 years ago or even fifty years ago, but racism is still a big part of US life. The nasty words have been supplanted by “code words” and “code sayings”. The problem is that the majority of decent people don't realize that they are “code words” and “code sayings”, so they do not catch on to the games being played. The KKK knew who to endorse in each of the last 10 presidential elections even without the candidate pledging to bar the school-house doors. I know quite a few Puerto Ricans and Cubans who have gone out of their way to tell me about how their grand-parents all came from Spain. They claim that they are not prejudice, but it is important that I know their ancestry. Returning to the point (from above) about being proud to be white or American. One day, I was debating with a group of fellow workers about this idea of racial or nationality pride and I asked a Russian-American if he was proud to be of Russian decent, then I asked a man of Irish decent if he was proud to be of Irish decent, then I asked man of Polish decent if he was proud to be of Polish decent, then I asked a man of British decent if he was proud to be of British decent, and finally I asked a man of African decent if he was proud to be of African decent. All answered yes. I then asked each, if they had been born to one of the other men's ethnic group, if he would be equally proud. All eventually agreed that they would have been proud no matter which of the other groups they would have been born into. “So it doesn't matter then does it?” If you are proud of yourself, no matter which group you are born into, then what is there to be proud of? Oh, I lied. Most would not have been proud to have been of African decent. A few years ago when Michael Jordan was the richest, most famous athlete in the world, I asked two 20 year old co-workers, “wouldn't you like to be able to change places with him?” They both yelled, “NO!!” When I asked why, they responded “Because he has to kiss Niggers.” They told me that it was ok to screw them, but they would never want to kiss them. Well I doubt if Michal Jordan or Tiger Woods has to kiss niggers. I think they have their choice because of their money and fame, but wouldn't it be nice if they had their choice even if they were poor and unknown? -

Don't be sorry. You have as much right to your opinion as I do to mine. I am assuming that you think that I have a right to my opinion. Right? And Batista was the right man with high moral values? As a citizen of the country that has terrorized more countries than any other in the world, I find that a strange statement. As many innocent people as the innocent civilians in Iraq? And in my opinion, the USDA should have as good a school system and medical system as Cuba. I do not think you are crazy. I just don't agree with you. Maybe it is the stories about the street paved in gold that they hear about. There is neither anything to be proud about nor ashamed about. You had no more choice in your racial makeup as you had in the number of fingers that you have. So you know more than me because you are 44 and were born in Cuba? I am 61 and born in the USA. Neither proves anything. I doubt that you can be objective however, since you are so proud of being Cuban. I an not Cuban, so I have no axe to grind either for or against Cuba, the Cuban exiles or Castro. -
Observations on Castro and Cuban-Americans

No one said that Castro is a good person, but Batista and many of the people who were made rich by his policies were not good people either. I am not saying that anyone's family on this board were deserving of persecution. I am a white man (born and raised in the USA) and even though I have never knowingly discriminated against Blacks or Hispanics, I may have benefited many times when it came to promotions on my job or in my school days by teachers who gave me preferential treatment over minorities. Maybe if: #1. The US government had helped Castro when he came to them for help ridding the Cuban people of Batista or #2. The USA had tried to barter with Castro later to help Cuba economically in exchange for more civil rights for Cuba's people the situation would have been different. Many of the Cuban exiles where people who benefited by the Corrupt Batista regime. Many were influential in keeping down the Cuban Blacks and poor, but many were (like I) just lucky to be white in a society where being white meant you were better and they fled because they dreaded the change in the status quo. A lot of US whites complain about the current state of race relations in the USA. They long for the "Good Old Days" when Blacks knew their place and they could be discriminated against legally. -

Did you hear about the woman who had two 38's and a 45 to protect them? -
Back in the 1960's, I saw an episode of Star Trek entitled "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" in which Captain Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise come across two humanoids; Bele and Lokai, from the planet Cheron. Each of them is half black and half white, starkly separated down the middle of his body. The only difference is one is black on the right side and white on the left, while the other is exactly the opposite. When I saw the show, I thought of it as a satire of race relations in the USA, but today I thought about it and realized that it might be more fittingly mocking the Jewish/Muslim battle now taking place in the Middle-East. If either Bele or Lokai were to stand in front of a mirror, he would see the image of his most hated enemy. A mirror image of a man white on his left would be a man white on his right. That is so fitting of today's (and yesterday's and probably tomorrow's) senseless slaughter taking place in and around Israel, because the Israeli and Muslim enemies are mirror images of each other. Abraham (Genesis 16) had two son's, one by his wife's maid-servant Hagar and then one by his wife, Sarah. The two sons, Ishmael and Isaac, are generally considered to be the fathers of Islam and Judaism, so the fight between Jew and Muslim is basically a family feud. In the "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" episode of Star Trek, when Bele and Lokai return to their home planet of Cheron, they find a scene not too unlike that of Lebanon. The whole planet is now lifeless except for the two of them who beam down to continue their fight to the finish. Must the Middle-East lead the rest of the world down the same path taken by Cheron? Some will blame the problem on the Israelis. "They are bullying the Palestinians and the Lebanese", they will say. Some will blame it on the Muslims. "Hamas and Hezbollah are terrorist groups" they will say. "Iran and Syria are terrorist states arming terrorist groups" they will tell you. Bele and Lokai also had their excuses. "I'm white on the right, can't you see the difference?" Yet the Jews and the Muslims are both using the same tactic. Kill civilians until they put enough pressure on their leaders or until they choose new leaders to get their side to stop. But what has the despicable killing of civilians actually done? It has hardened each side's populace. There are many fewer Jews now ready to make piece with their Muslim brothers than there was three weeks ago. You might remember that after 911, the Republicans and Democrats came together in the US Congress to give President BuSh anything he wanted. There was unity in the streets of the USA. People; Black, White, Hispanic, Democrat and Republican were then Americans first. Osama Bin Laden and Al-Quaida brought the political left and right of the USA together. Well Israel's killing of civilians in Lebanon has brought the Sunnis and Shiites of the Middle-East together as never before. Even the Christians of Lebanon are now united with both the Lebanese Sunnis and Shiites. And the Sunni counties that have been friends of the USA are now criticizing Israel (and the USA) as if those Sunni countries were Shiite. President BuSh claims to believe in the sanctity of human life. He has vetoed legislation that would (in his opinion) destroy human life that is smaller than this period. Yet, he and Condoleezza Rice have proposed a piece-plan that must have "a lasting piece" which is a code-phrase for "when Israel wins". The Israeli prime minister told Ms. Rice that he might need 10 days to two weeks to win. Are we willing to watch both Israeli and Lebanese babies die for the next two weeks? Are those children any less valuable that the embryos that BuSh wants to protect? Sunday, a building in Lebanon was blown up with about 60 casualties. About 30 to 40 children died. About 600 Lebanese civilians including about 300 children have been killed in less than these 3 weeks. There have been about 30 Israeli civilians killed. Ms. Rice and Mr. BuSh claim that terrorism must be stomped out in the Middle-East (and around the world), but is it not terrorism to launch missile strikes, to fire artillery and use F16's to bomb populated areas? Hezbollah is wrong. Hezbollah is a terrorist group, but that does not make Israel right, nor does it make Israel any less of a terrorist country. People and countries must be judged, not by their friendship with the USA, nor the "Good Guy" sign that they fly, but by their actions. Israel is killing 20 Muslims (and Christians) in Lebanon for each Israeli that dies in the Hezbollah missile attacks. Doesn't "an eye for an eye" have any meaning to the Israelis? The bible does not say "20 eyes for an eye". Both sides are wrong. Both sides must stop fighting now. The USA must insist that there be talks. The USA must drop the BS line that we don't talk to terrorists. Pretending that Hezbollah, Syria and Iran do not exist just keeps the killing of babies going on for a longer time. Can't we learn something from Bele and Lokai, and Star Trek, or must the Earth wind up like the planet Cheron?

In the mechanic's locker-room on the extremely macho job that I used to work at, penis size was one of the most discussed and of course was the first thing mocked when one guy wanted to pick on another. One of the young studs, once said to me that he bet that his was at least 3 inches longer than mine (He was about 21 and I was near 50). I said, "of course your's is probably longer." He was shocked that I would say that, and said, "So you admit it?" I said, "Of course mine is smaller. I've worn mine down from using it so much." He was silent as the rest of the locker-room exploded in laughter. -

IMHO, women are the more sexually orientated gender. That is the reason that society has imposed double standards; in order to control the natural sexual urges of the females. Left to a society of no structure, the women would be the aggressor. It has been my experience that the women has much more sexual pleasure than the male during a love-making session. However, in public, they seldom admit to it. This thread is an extreme exception. -

I am not going to quibble over whether obesity is an emotional decease or a physical decease, or for all I could care it might be a symptom of weakness. The important thing is that for many of us, without the help (call it a crutch if you want to be mean) of a Lap Band, we can not live normal lives. I have gained almost 30 pounds since I had my band emptied because of a gastric reflux problem (I have lost 10 of those pounds back). I will be getting a (first) fill in a month or so. On my job, I was known as one of the most dedicated workers in the department. I went 3 years without calling in sick. I went 5 years without being late. I won awards. I am married for 39 years. I quit smoking "cold turkey" over 35 years ago. I was an extremely heavy drinker who quit drinking "cold turkey" almost 15 years ago. I quit beating my wife about 25 years ago (JOKE). I have not worked since I was 58 years old because I saved money and paid off my home. I owe nothing and have money in the bank, hopefully enough, with our SS money which should start next year for me and in three years for her, to last me and my wife until we both die. Even though I lost over half my pension to an unscrupulous company, I put enough into my 401k and IRA's to help make up for the loss. I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. My step-father gave me nothing as a child. I worked two jobs when needed, but made sure my wife stayed home to take care of our son. I saved and invested. I bought a second house to rent out and did all the repairs on the house, besides working my job(s). I have self-control, BUT I AM ALMOST POWERLESS OVER MY WEIGHT. How can I be in such control over the rest of my life, but without any control over my eating? I don't know. I went to 3 different shrinks. They didn't help. I tried every diet. They helped for a while, then I would regain the weight and more, sometimes much more. I have gone from 180 to 325 twice, from 210 to 290 more times than I can count. I NEED MY LAP BAND. Tell that to your husband or Dad or anyone else who gives you that superior than thou attitude. -

The Important thing about Sex is cooperation. Here is a story about a couple that never learned that axiom. BIG BUTT! A man and his wife were working in their garden one day and the man looked over at his wife and said "Your butt is getting really big, I mean really big. I bet your butt is bigger than the barbecue grill." With that he proceeded to get a measuring tape, measure the grill and then went over to where his wife was working and measured his wife's bottom. "Yes, I was right, your butt is two inches wider than the barbecue grill." The woman chose to ignore her husband. Later that night in bed, the husband was feeling frisky. He made some advances towards his wife who completely brushed him off. "What's wrong?" he asked. She replied: "Do you really think I'm going to fire up this big-ass grill for one little weenie?":faint: -

I am saying that the woman should either put a spoon full of yogurt in her mouth every few minutes or a spoonful on the man's penis every once in a while. As far as swallowing goes, I enjoy it when my women does it, but some girls don't, so I have never forced one (by begging) to swallow. Then again, some women don't consider the act consummated until and unless they swallow. Each person has their own desires, likes and dislikes. Some get to like what was once a disgusting thought. The first time I ever heard about giving a female head, I said that it was the nastiest thing that I ever heard of, but one night, many, many, years ago (about 6 BC, I think), I was drunk and she was beautiful, she asked and I have never stopped loving it. -

I think you missed the point. The sensuousness of the cold yogurt followed by the warmth of the mouth adds much to the pleasure of the lucky man. The flavor of the yogurt aids the giver in her quest to provide pleasure and might add pleasure to her experience. The yogurt can be taken from the fridge on the way to the room being used for the sport. It beats whipped cream or "Cool Whip" IMHO for both partners. One of the few real "Win - Win" situations!! -

Getting back to the subject at hand:faint:. For those women (or men of the gay persuasion) who complain about the taste, may I suggest fruit flavored (lite) yogurt, while performing the act. It removes both the taste and consistency of the ejaculation (so I've been told), and it makes the experience more pleasurable to both partners. The cold and heat alternations bring on a unique sensation. -
