As soon as the train stopped, Mr. Autrey yelled to the people on the platform to tell his girls that he was ok. But, yes, your are correct, those girls will never forget that day. It is a good thing it wasn't me who fell on the tracks. Mr. Autrey would have gotten knocked right off me by the train.:faint:

This doesn't even happen in the Movies. From the Article: Father credited with amazing 'subway save' Tried to pull man off tracks; train rolled over them both Eyewitness News (Manhattanville - WABC, January 2, 2007) - A Good Samaritan leaped into action and saved a man who had a seizure and collapsed onto subway tracks Tuesday afternoon. Eyewitness News reporter Carolina Tarazona spoke with the hero. She has the story from the 138th Street station in Manhattanville. Fifty-year-old Wesley Autrey saved a man's life today. The Vietnam vet says he just followed his gut, but it was more than that. "I just did my best," Autrey said. "Military training, instinct, that's all." Authorities say the victim, 18-year-old Cameron Hollowpeter, suffered a seizure and collapsed onto the southbound No. 1 line near Broadway and West 137th Street just before 1 p.m. They say Autrey was waiting for a subway train with his two daughters and attempted to save Hollowpeter. "I just went in after the guy," he said. "I tried to pull him up, but I had to make a split-[second] decision whether or not to struggle, maybe end up getting us both killed. So I just chose to dive on top of him and pin him down and pin myself down." Autrey reportedly leaped into the trench to get Hollowpeter off the tracks. Officials say when he was unable to get him off the tracks in time, the hero covered the victim with his body in the gutter between two tracks, and a subway train rolled over them both. "This train is coming," he said. "I was trying to pull him up, but his weight, he was fighting against me. He didn't know who I was. The only thing that popped into my mind was go into the gutter. So I dove in, I pinned him down, once the first car ran over us, then my thing was keep him still." Both men miraculously sustained only minor injuries. Police say Hollowpeter was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, while the underground hero was treated at the scene. Autrey said he shouldn't be considered a hero, he was simply putting his military training to use. "I think I did the right thing," he said. "And it ain't about being a hero, it's just being able to be here and help the next person." Subway service was briefly delayed on southbound No. 1 express trains between 145th Street and 96th Street, but normal service has resumed.

Iran does not want to take us over. They need us to buy their oil. Same goes for China, except it is everything in Wal-Mart and Home Depot, not oil that China needs a customer for. North Korea has no means to attack us and even with 1% of our nuclear arsonal, we could wipe them off the face of the Earth if they had the weapons and the means to get them here and used them. Besides, what does the USA have to offer any country that would want to take us over? Cheap labor? No. Oil? Yes, but many countries have much more and would be so much easier to take over. Manufacturing plants? Not many left. Farm land? China and Saudi Arabia will soon buy all our farm land when they want to spend all the money that we owe them as they finance our "National Debt". That was a farce presented to the US public to keep the spending high so that the "Military Industrial Complex" could prosper. Our generals knew that the Soviet Military was not as strong as pictured either here or in the Soviet Union. Why do you think Kruschev backed down against JFK in 1962? Why didn't the Soviet Union win in Afghanistan? I agree with you whole heartedly that the USA needs to have a formidable national defense. But we spend more money on the military than all the rest of the nations of the world combined. If we spend the money, we need to use the weapons. The "Military Industrial Complex" can not make just 100 units, it must make 1000's to recoup their "research and developement" costs, so we need to find a war to use them up, so that new ones are needed. Does anyone ever consider that countries might be arming to protect themselves from the US? BuSh announced that there was an "Axis of Evil"; Iraq, Iran and North Korea, and then we invaded Iraq. What would you do if you were the ruler of Iran or North Korea after that happened? And by the way, did our $350,000,000,000 per year defense stop the terrorists on 911?

Putting the warning label on large clothes is equivalent to putting warning label on the inhalers that people who have emphysema use or on the chemotherapy IV bags; "You should not have smoked". What we need is government intervention into the fast food industry and the grocery industry. Has anyone noticed the increase in obesity since "Lite" foods, low fat, No fat, Low sugar and no sugar foods have come out? Could it be a coincidence? Maybe it isn't the food, but the marketing of the food. People may actually believe that if it is "Lite", you can eat a ton of it. Has anyone seen the new Coke product, "Enviga", that is supposed to make you lose weight by drinking it? What they didn't mention it the linked article is it would take over 100 cans of "Enviga" to lose one pound.

I found it Ironic that George W. BuSh walked Betty Ford into the assembly for President Ford's Funeral. And that George W. BuSh was selected to speak. George W. BuSh is the president most like Richard Nixon in style and demeanor. Where will the Republicans get another Gerald Ford to replace George W. BuSh? Where will the Democrats get another Gerald Ford to replace George W. BuSh? Who can heal our country?

Women Beware. food in the convenience section of a gas station or worst of all, to use the rest room. My car locks itself within 45 sections of closing the door with the ignition off. My pickup truck does not, so I manually lock it to go into the convenience store while at a gas station. But I am not the target, because my wallet is in my pocket. I know a women who carried a gun for protection. That gun is now in the hands of a criminal because she carried it in her pocketbook and left her pocketbook in her unlocked car. I hope no one is ever killed with that gun. I also hope that we learn to live in this world, not the one we would like it to be. Criminals are out there and they come in every shape, color, age bracket, size and in both genders.

Either way it is the permission of the adult that makes it legal. And if they had sex before, the man could be charged with rape. But my point is still valid. Children can not make informed concent.

Defense is an over-used over-emotional word. Any country with a military has either a Defense Department, Department of Defense, Ministry of Defense or some other euphemism wrapped around the word "Defense". 95% of the USA's expenditures on Defense are for Offensive weapons. In 2003 the USA invaded a country the size of California (both area and population wise) that is half way around the world "for Defense". There are no countries chomping at the bit to overrun our shores. The Muslim Fanatics that attacked us on 911 where like all terrorists. They just wanted to get our intention and to put some fear into us so we might adjust some of our international policies. They have no intention or ability to take over the USA. They are not like Nazi Germany. If we were honest, we would call the Defense Department; the "Ministry of Aggression". But then it might be harder to get weapons systems approved in congress. The US public would not want to hear, "we need this weapons system to be able to start wars against..."

I generally agree that a person must accept responsibility for his actions, however there have been surveys that prove that hardly any adults take up smoking for the first time. We would not legally allow a 13 year old girl to have sex with a 25 year old man even if she wants to because we know that a 13 year old can not form an informed consent to have sex. So we do not hold her responsible for her actions, but we do hold the adult responsible if he has sex with the child. Analogously, we should not hold a 13 year old girl (or boy) responsible for taking up smoking. We need to put as many legal obstacles in the path to smoking. The cigarette manufacturers feign innocence of underage smoking, but they fight laws to make it harder to stop children from taking up smoking. They lower the price of the brands that most teens smoke while leaving the price of the brands that teens do not smoke unchanged. As I said earlier, “When I was an aircraft mechanic, I used chemicals which have since been found to cause cancer. They were removed by law from the workplace. Why should cigarettes be any different?” If we were talking about a non-poisonous product, personal responsibility might be an easy issue to discuss, but in this case, allowing people to poison themselves is a much more difficult issue. Do we have a right or obligation to intervene when people are trying to kill themselves? Cigarettes and food are ranked as the two most prolific items that kill us. There is a difference though. Food is necessary for life. It is only the abuse of food which kills us. Cigarettes are only necessary for the profits of the cigarette manufacturers.

The Biblical Case for Pro-Choice & Stem Cell Research

Twisting scripture? Adam was a fully developed man before God breathed life into him and until Adam took his first breath he was not considered a man nor did he have a soul. Why should a fetus be any different from Adam in God's eyes before it becomes a baby and takes it's first breath? Is a fetus growing in a women's womb any more of a miracle than God taking dust and creating a man? Yes, the man (Adam) was dead and soul-less at first, but that first breath brought humanity and a soul to Adam. Is an embryo more of a human than the body of Adam before God breathed life into it? Does an embryo have a soul because a lab technician forced a microscopic sperm cell through the shell of a microscopic egg? Or does it take God to put a soul into that embryo? Would God go around putting souls into every embryo that technicians fertilize at every lab in the world? Or would he have the infinite patience to wait until the embryo is implanted, becomes a fetus and finally is born as a human baby? My money goes on God being intelligent and patient enough to save his precious souls for implanting into babies who are born. Not into embryos or even babies who will be aborted or still born. What would God do with a still born baby or an aborted fetus or a 16 cell embryo? Would God send them to Hell? Would God allow them into Heaven? Would God reuse that soul in another body? “Who are we to question God's ways" some might say. I say, "don't question God's ways, just read Genesis 2.7 and see that God only placed a soul (and simultaneously life) into Adam upon Adam's first breath". If my interpretation of scripture is twisted, where is scripture that contradicts my interpretation of "Genesis 2.7"? -

The Biblical Case for Pro-Choice & Stem Cell Research

The problem is that there are a lot of good middle of the road sensible Christians who are being mislead by politically active televangilists and local clergy who use these issues to build a blind following. I have yet to see anyone quote Jesus or God (or Allah for that matter) to refute my biblical reference to when life begins. Too many good Christians are led around by peer pressure and by men in the pulpit who pretend to be Godly, but are actually as worldly as a CEO of any Forbes 500 company. -
Isn't it funny that the conservatives and Neo-Cons want the UN dismantled (or at least removed from US soil), yet use it to their advantage when an excuse is needed for an invasion by the USA or for destruction of a country's infrastructure and populace as was done by Israel against Lebanon? As far as Powell's UN speech. I believe Powell is the ultimate team player. He argued against war in Iraq, but with Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Pearl, et all, egging BuSh on to glory, the BuSh decision was a fait accompli. BuSh then ordered the "good soldier" to make His (BuSh's) case before the UN and "the General" did what he was told, putting his heart and soul into it.

BuSh Unveils New Strategy for Winning in Iraq
Tired_Old_Man replied to Tired_Old_Man's topic in Rants & Raves
Cheney and BuSh are probably both good shots, but they are deathly afraid of being a target for anything that could shoot back. Notice their sparkling military avoidance records. No. They weren't elegable back then. Besides Barbara BuSh wouldn't want to get her cookie baking hands dirty.:girl_hug: -
Christian Fundamentists blame the USA's Liberals for a loss of traditional values in the USA. - For Fundamentalist Christians, the USA's Liberal lifestyle is a symbol of moral decay. They see the USA's Liberal lifestyle as responsible for a decline in traditional values and lifestyles. Fundamentalist Christians see the American Liberal lifestyle as a dangerous competitor for the hearts and minds of Christians. - Fundamentalist Christians view the technologically advanced and secular lifestyle in the United States as a dangerous temptation for Christians and that it will lead them away from Fundamentalist Christian values. Fundamentalist Christians believe that they are dominated by the West coast and East coast of the United States. - What is truly evil and unacceptable [to the Fundamentalist Christian] is the domination of secular Liberals over true believers.

The Biblical Case for Pro-Choice & Stem Cell Research

I feel that to say that something is sensitive and should not be talked about, but then to allow people to run other people's lives because of some notion of theirs which is contradicted by the same book that the controllers quote in order to control other people's lives is perpetuating the control by the controllers. So I will discuss it. I dare anyone to show me where God, Jesus, Allah or any other God of a major religion is against stem cell research, or for protecting the "life" of a 16 cell embryo in a petri dish. -
I was against the war in Iraq a year before it started and I stated so on the forums where I spent my time back then and I also stated that Saddam did not have WMD nor did he have anything to do with 911. I was called vile names and treated with a lot less respect than I have seen any of the members here at LBT get for being pro-BuSh. I was proven right and George W. BuSh and Tony Blair were proven wrong. It remains to be seen whether BuSh and Blair were wrong or lying. Anyone reading reports available to the public could have, would and should have known that BuSh and Blair were wrong or lying about their reasons for invading Iraq. It was the willingness of the USA public to blindly follow their leader, the cowardice of most Democrats to avoid being seen as weak on security or terrorism, and the failure of the US media to investigate to any debt, that caused the invasion of Iraq as much as it was BuSh and Blair. The British public (by a poll of over 80%) believed that BuSh and Blair were wrong or lying before the invasion of Iraq. The average US citizen was willing to sell his soul to be protected from the bogeyman. BuSh's advisors told BuSh that Hussein had nothing to do with 911 and had no WMD, but he told them to go back and look again. It doesn't take a genius to know what your boss needs to hear in order for you to keep your job. George Tenent was no genius and finally told BuSh what he wanted to hear (although the CIA reports said different). Richard Clark and Paul O'Neil, men of more integrity left the BuSh Cabinet (along with others) rather than tell BuSh what he wanted to hear. Reading about what went on it the White House does not mean that you are a conspiracy nut. It was all there, including former ambassador Joseph Wilson's report that Nigeria was not selling Uranium to Iraq. I am not a conspiracy nut. I just keep myself informed and have learned to read between the (official government) lines.

When the people at the execution taunted Saddam Hussein with Religious barbs they proved to much of the world and to much of Iraq that the execution was an act of political and religious revenge. Regrettably, Saddam Hussein showed the most restraint as the judge asked the others at the execution to stop the taunting to no avail. Many had hoped that Saddam Hussein would have whimpered and begged for mercy, but it was Saddam Hussein who acted like the human being and his executioners who acted as the monsters. It does not bode well for the future of Iraq that the Shiite majority looked so grotesque to the Sunni minority who they claim that they want to reconcile with. While Iraq may be 65% Shiite and 20% Sunni, according to most sources, including the US Library of Congress, approximately 85% of the world's Muslims are Sunni and only 15% are Shiites. The unsavory execution of Saddam Hussein may wind up being an invitation to the world's Sunni population to come to the aid of their Sunni brethren in Iraq. That would not be good for either the USA or the government now in power in Iraq.
-
I would rather have our 3000 soldiers who died fighting in Iraq back alive as well as the uncountable number of Iraqi citizens back alive than knowing that Saddam is dead.

Is Saddam Dead? Or was it one of his "Doubles" possibly drugged into a near stupor?

Doing the work that Jesus would have wanted
Tired_Old_Man replied to Tired_Old_Man's topic in Rants & Raves
If you read the opening piece, you will see that there was no blame placed on anyone or any group. I offered a suggestion on how to do the Lord's work properly; By doing the Lord's work in proportion to the amount of time our Lord spent in the Bible discussing the things on his mind (in other words, his agenda). If you feel that my last sentence: "If you have never counted the verses, how do you know you are really doing the work that Jesus would want you to be doing?" is blaming anyone, may I ask how anyone would know what the Lord wants if they have no DIRECT knowledge of what HE wants? Listening to sermons from a politically active preacher is no substitute for reading the words of our Savior.
