When I was a child, my parents had a friend who had daughter about my age. The parents did not believe in telling their children about sex. The daughter had her first period while home alone at about 12. She knew that she should put topical disinfectant medication on open wounds, so thinking she was bleeding from inside, she drank a bottle of topical wound disinfectant and died. I think it was iodine or Mercurochrome, but I am not sure since it was about 50 years ago.

If medical scientists came out with a 100% effective and safe vaccine for HIV and AIDS prevention, would any prudent parent say no to their child getting the vaccine based on the "mixed message" of sexual impropriety being condoned? If the vaccine only worked if administered prior to puberty, would parents turn it down for their children? Remember, in this hypothetical situation, the vaccine is "100% effective and safe".

ATLANTA - A Jewish organization is demanding an apology from a Georgia legislator for a memo that says the teaching of evolution should be banned because it is a myth propagated by an ancient Jewish sect. State Rep. Ben Bridges denies writing the memo, which attributes the Big Bang theory to Kabbalah, or Jewish mysticism. Bridges has long opposed the teaching of evolution in Georgia classrooms and has introduced legislation requiring only that "scientific fact" be taught. Marshall Hall, president of the Fair Education Foundation, says the Republican lawmaker gave him approval to write the memo, which has been distributed to legislators in several states, including California and Texas. The memo asks readers to challenge the "evolution monopoly in the schools" by logging onto Hall's anti-evolution Web site, http://www.fixedearth.com . "Indisputable evidence — long hidden but now available to everyone — demonstrates conclusively that so-called 'secular evolution science' is the Big Bang, 15-billion-year, alternate 'creation scenario' of the Pharisee Religion," says the memo, which has Bridges' name on it. "This scenario is derived concept-for-concept from Rabbinic writings in the mystic 'holy book' Kabbala dating back at least two millennia." The Anti-Defamation League sent a letter to Bridges on Thursday chastising him for the memo and demanding him to apologize. "Your memo conjures up repugnant images of Judaism used for thousands of years to smear the Jewish people as cult-like and manipulative," wrote Bill Nigut, the league's Southeast regional director. The league sent a similar letter to a Texas lawmaker who circulated the memo to members of the Texas Legislature's budget-writing committee. State Rep. Warren Chisum told The Dallas Morning News in Thursday editions he was trying to do a "Good Samaritan" deed for Bridges. "If that's a sin, well, shoot me," he told the newspaper. But in a letter to Mark Brisman, director of the league's North Texas/Oklahoma chapter, he wrote, "I sincerely regret that I did not take the time to carefully review these materials and recognize that I may have hurt or offended some groups including some of my dear friends," according to The New York Times. Hall, a 76-year-old retired high school teacher who said his wife ran Bridges' election campaign, said neither the memo nor his Web site is anti-Semitic. "I think they tar people with that brush a little too readily," he said.

We live in a country with the best weapons. But we also live in a country with primitive feelings. In this day and age, we still have debates over the what could be the first woman, the first Black, the first Mormon or the first Hispanic president. We still single them out for these meaningless differences. "All men are created equal" is something that very few US Americans actually believe in, no matter what they say. The biggest difference between the North and the South is how much more the people of the North keep their prejudices secret or low key. That's why the chance of getting beat up for being different is higher in the South, though if the Brits in the "YouTube" piece had been beaten, many people in the North would have applauded in private, but spoken out against it in public. But the USA is not that much different than most of the countries of the world. What makes it appalling is that most Americans think they are better, but sink to the same level as the people of the countries that they despise, while at the same time berating those countries for being backward. Remember the outrage when the Afghani was on trial for converting from Islam to Christianity? Were the people in the Alabama gas station any different from the Afghan public who wanted the convert executed?

There were a lot more than two. There were many more than two. Then how do you account for thousands of of ministers who do not interpret it the same ways as you? Are they all wrong, while you are right? Or do the scriptures only interpret themselves for you (and people who agree with you)? I am not as educated on scriptures as well as some of the ministers I speak to, so I just accept the ones who agree with my interpretation of scriptures as being correct.

Does that mean we can teach evolution in science class without teaching the Bible (Creationism or Intelligent Design) in science class?
-
George W. BuSh seems to believe in science when it comes to developing new weapons, but not much else. Didn't Christians kill or exile people for saying the world was not flat many years ago?

I heard last night that the 21,500 troop surge is actually going to add between 35,000 and 48,000 more soldiers, marines and MP's to Iraq. The difference is in logistic and support troops. It takes about one support soldier for every combat soldier in today's military.

But it is inaccurate, so could you kindly disavow it?

Not according to the FBI The statement in Red above is the type of racist statement that annoys many members. But can't you see, as soon as the Christian Right Political Movement gets powerful enough to pass constitutional amendments against abortion and same sex unions and marriage, they will start on another issue? They have already proposed bills in some states against pants that hang down too low (hip-huggers and the "prison look" popular in many areas among young men where no belt is worn and the top of the pants is 9-10-11 inches below the waist). There are proposals to mandate school prayer. Then there proposals to mandate prayer to Jesus. In a school district in Mississippi, school children (including the one Jewish boy in one school) pray to Jesus after they say the pledge of allegiance. The school board lost the lawsuit (brought by the Jewish parents) in court, but dared the state to enforce the court decision. They are trying to pass a constitutional amendment to mandate "under God" be kept in the pledge. Do you think it will stop that candidates have to pledge allegiance to Christian values to be the Republican nominee for any elected office (as it is now)? Will it stop when candidates have to eventually pledge allegiance to literal (word for word) Biblical belief to be the Republican nominee for any elected office? You say you are against a Christian Theocracy, but when the snowball starts gathering speed and size, the avalanche is inevitable.

I had a free minute (or a few) so I thought I would read up on this, my favorite thread. I have a lot of respect for almost everyone who has posted in this thread, but I am sad to admit that I do not have much respect for Ron, the person who started this thread because I see many of his posts as double talk. However, Ron, if you are reading this, I can say that if you would admit that you want to live in a Christian Theocracy, I will admit I was wrong for not respecting you (in my heart). If you answer yes (you want to live in a Christian Theocracy), the case is closed. If you answer no (you do not want to live in a Christian Theocracy), then what do you think the outcome of an 80% to 90% Christian nation voting for Representatives who will uphold Christians values will lead to? If you answer no and an 80% to 90% Christian nation voting for Representatives who will uphold Christians values will not lead to Christian Theocracy, I will assume that you are either a hypocrite or totally unaware of the consequences of you actions. Since I believe that you are an intelligent person, I can assume you will figure out which choice I would assume. I would also assume that you would believe that a Christian Theocracy would be much more benevolent than a Muslim Theocracy, but that is another post for another time. BTW, my time is up. Thank you to all the well wishers. Tina is getting better and hopefully will be able to visit her mother next week.

I will respect my wife, the situation and our marriage by not posting for a few more days (or until my wife is well enough to travel from Florida to NY again to be with her mother).

We have just had a miserable week. My wife lost an uncle and I lost an aunt. That plus, my wife's mother is very sick in a Brooklyn hospital and my wife is sick in Florida with a condition that is contagious enough that our doctor told her not to go to her mother's bedside, lest she make her mother sicker (and possible kill her). I have not been to the LBT site for 10 days and I was catching up on some of my thread reading while my wife is resting in bed. I promised her that I would not "waste time" posting (since we have so much catching up to do after two funerals in two different places), but after reading the following, I will break my pledge for one post. Not according to the FBI Ron, you should be ashamed to call yourself a man of God and spread such evil propaganda. I had a hard time researching this, because Google linked me to dozens of neo-nazia, and White power sites that all agreed (by spinning some facts into non-valid opinions) that Blacks commit a preponderance of crimes against white. In 2005, Of the 3785 whites murdered, 3150 were murdered by whites. Of the 3289 blacks murdered, 2984 were murdered by blacks. I have read for years that interracial crime only accounts for about 15% to 20% of the crime, white on Black, or Black on white. Poverty and racism play a larger part than race. In Northern Island, the impoverished and discriminated against Roman catholic minority had similar disproportionate murder and crime figures as the USA's Blacks do. Shame on You!!

Strange! The people who believe most strongly that they have an unqualified right to have firearms state two needs for guns: Protection from the criminal element and the "Second Amendment's" stated purpose of needing firearms, which is to overthrow an oppressive government. Yet, I find that the ones who are most adamant about that need are also the most easily swayed by government's arguments to oppress us in the name of security.

I don't think Hillarys' campaign managers will allow any smears to get by them. I expect they will take immediate action and stomp them. John Kerry ignored the liars, thinking no one would actually believe their garbage only to find out some people did. His managers should have kicked the Swift Boat Liars to the curb the first time they opened their mouths. Everything they said was debunked and proven lies and now this same bunch is trying it on Hillary. Why the public would believe any of this stuff when it is so easy to go to snopes.com and debunk it is beyond me. Look what they are trying to do to Obama and yet people actually pass it on. Same old lingo, just a different candidates name on it. I was pleased to see Al Gore has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. He deserves it. Just read Florida is going to use a paper trail in voting, what a pity they and Ohio didn't do it in 2004, things would have sure been different. And in 2000. Doubt we would be at war and our people being slaughtered like it is now. The reason that people don't debunk this stuff is FOX News and the Rupert Murdoch newspaper empire and the Clear-Channel Radio network tell them that it is true. The majority of our Media sources are own by people with an agenda, and it is not a liberal agenda. I heard today that a question was asked about whether global warming was being caused by mankind's actions. 95% of the Democrats who responded said yes. 13% of the Republicans who responded said yes. -

Another Muslim in our government Date: Tue, 16 Jan 2007 23:45 Probable U. S. presidential candidate, Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black Muslim from Nyangoma-Kogel, Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white atheist from Wichita, Kansas. Obama's parents met at the University of Hawaii. When Obama was two years old, his parents divorced. His father returned to Kenya. His mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a radical Muslim from Indonesia. When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocated to Indonesia. Obama attended a Muslim school in Jakarta. He also spent two years in a Catholic school. Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim. He is quick to point out that, "He was once a Muslim, but that he also attended Catholic school." Obama's political handlers are attempti ng to make it appear that Obama's introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this influence was temporary at best. In reality, the senior Obama returned to Kenya soon after the divorce, and never again had any direct influence over his son's education. Lolo Soetoro, the second husband of Obama's mother, Ann Dunham, introduced his stepson to Islam. Osama was enrolled in a Wahabi school in Jakarta. Wahabism is the radical teaching that is followed by the Muslim terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world. Since it is politically expedient to be a Christian when seeking major public office in the United States, Barack Hussein Obama has joined the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim background. Let us all remain alert concer ning Obama's expected presidential candidacy. How many more Muslim's are we going to elect...and now a Muslim President!!!!! This is all we need to get our government changed over to Muslim. American will be no more. Be VERY CAREFUL how you vote this election! -
OK to sleep on my port side?
Tired_Old_Man replied to sherilynn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I slept in a recliner for about a week or more after my LP was put in. I asked my doctor how delicate the port is. He told me not to get into any boxing matches. -
George Bush: Worst American president in history
Tired_Old_Man replied to Sunta's topic in Rants & Raves
Clinton was called names from the floor of the House of Representatives including one congressman who held up a sign (I forgot what it sad). At forums that I was at during that time period, people were accusing Clinton of 56, then 58 murders and calling him "slick Wille". Many of these same people today call me unamerican for writing BuSh. If Hillary becomes president, the name calling will start all over again. -
It was my choice of words that led to any miscommunication. Tina wanted the sundae, but didn't want Brooklyn to feel bad. It came with the meal that Tina and I shared. I obviously, didn't need it. We had planned to buy Brooklyn a sundae to go along with Tina's sundae, but Brooklyn's use of convenient stomachaches gets to us.

I asked questions. I never stated any opinion. I mentioned breaking of limbs while practicing guerrilla warfare, and asked when it becomes child abuse. There was a court case about 30 years ago that I would like to bring up. The 1975 cars had an interlock system that would not allow the engine to start if the system sensed weight on any of the front seats unless that seat's seatbelt was fastened. A man locked the seat belt behind his 7 year old child (as he also did behind himself) to defeat the government mandated safety system. The car was in an accident and the child was killed when he went through the windshield. The father was charged with criminally negligent homicide and at trial he asked for mercy because he felt that had suffered enough because of the loss of his child. Should he have been found guilty? Children have a right to be protected. Sometimes it is difficult to decide when parental rights and the state's responsibility to protect children take precedence. I believe there is a case going up right now, where Jehovah's Witnesses refused to allow blood transfusions for their infants who were just born. I know that we are fearful of unnecessary government intervention, but I wish the government was there for me when my step father used to hit me in the head with a one pound hammer. My mother wasn't there for me. No one except my pillow protected me when my step father yelled "cry and I will give you something to cry about” (meaning another hit in the head). Children need protection by their parents and sometimes from their parents.

Welcome to LBT. Maybe I am weird, but ice chips seemed to curb my appetite. Also, I found out that walking cut my hunger. Good luck on your journey.

It can vary from 6 weeks to 6 months. Usually it is about 2 to 3 months. Six months to a year seems like a lot to me. -
Make a Right onto Believeth Blvd. Keep straight and go through the Green Light, which is Jesus Christ. There, you must turn onto the Bridge of Faith, which is over troubled Water. When you get off the bridge, make a Right turn and Keep Straight. You are on the King's Highway - Heaven-bound. Keep going for three miles: One for the Father, One for the Son, and One for the Holy Spirit Then exit off onto Grace Blvd. From there, make a Right turn on Gospel Lane. Keep Straight and then make another Right on Prayer Road. As you go on your way, Yield Not to the traffic on Temptation Ave. Also, avoid SIN STREET because it is a DEAD END. Pass up Envy Drive, and Hate Avenue. Also, pass Hypocrisy Street, Gossiping Lane, and Backbiting Blvd. However, you have to go down Long-Suffering Lane, Persecution Blvd. and Trial and Tribulation Ave. But that's all right, because VICTORY Street is straight ahead!
