  1. Hey all, just a quick question... I keep seeing these ads about having the Lap Band done in Mexico for like half the price of using an American surgeon. My question is... Have any of you taken the trip south of the border to have your surgery, and if so, what was the experience like? I currently do not have insurance and I am probably going to have to pay out of pocket for my procedure (hubby just started a new job, so I will see what the benefits are like before I buy a plane ticket). Do you think it would be safe to have it done in Mexico? Yes, I know that Mexico has good hospitals, but why is the price so cheap? Is this along the lines of "you get what you pay for"? Thanks for your help, Michelle:smile2:
  2. Wow, thank you. I feel like a doofus for having my head in the sand, lol. I RARELY watch the news anymore, just because it depresses me so much. I didn't know about the violence issues that are happening there. I think I'l try to stop being so restless and just wait for my insurance to kick in and go to the bariatric center that is right here in my town. Again, thank you so much!:frown:

    Hey Y'all!

I will be contacting the local bariatric group to find out when I can do the seminar, and I am getting my medical records from previous doctors together so I can bring them to my new local GP. He's the same doctor I had 4 years ago when we lived in this town, and now that we've moved back, I'll be using him again since he's familiar with me (at least while he's reading my chart). I'm also going to see if I can go ahead and meet with the nutritionist to get that ball rolling too. Any other advice on things I can get going?

    Hey Y'all!

I just wanted to stop in and introduce myself... My name is Michelle, I'm 33... been married 13.5 years to Rick... have 3 sons Ryan, Joshua and Matthew (Josh and Matt are twins). I have been struggling with my weight for all of my adult life. Having 3 kids in a matter of 17 months didn't help, but hey... hindsight right? I have been considering weightloss surgery for the past 6 or 7 years, actually coming close once. Then my husband's insurance company decided that they didn't want to cover the costs anymore. We all know how well firefighters are paid (sarcasm), so paying out of pocket or getting a loan for the cost was not an option. So I thought that I would be stuck on the roller coaster for the rest of my life... which won't be too much longer if I don't do something about my BMI of 42. Yep, I'm 5'6" and I weigh 260 pounds. Until... Hubby started with a new fire department last month. At first I told him that I didn't want to get the insurance... feeding 3 kids on a firefighter's budget is hard enough... but when he came home this morning after shift he told me about the meeting he had with the insurance person and guess what... Lap Band will be covered starting in June!!! :w00t: So I have to wait til then, but after 13 years... whats 3 more months, right?!?!
