10 Week Post Op - Down 87.5lbs
Teresa'sTurn replied to ahanson82520's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok having phone issues. I am trying to reply about the leg/foot cramps. I had a few after surgery but I have had them in the past as well. It is typically low potassium and I have discovered the most amazing cure. It's drinking pickle juice. Just a few sips and it instantly goes away. You don't have to drink gallons of it. It might sound gross but I swear it works. My nephew has grown so fast, he is 6 ft tall and only 13, he would get leg cramps terrible so I told him to try it and it also worked instantly. So give it a try and let us know! -

You are not a spoiled brat!!! I'm proud of you for getting out of ur house for a bit! We all have gone through emotional ups and down in the first few weeks after surgery. Take it easy on yourself! Don't get bogged down with baggage. Just follow ur doctors guidelines and the rest will happen for you! Good luck and God bless! -

Jessica please don't be discouraged! You are doing wonderful! If u think about it. Since your surgery you have lost 21 pounds. It doesn't matter that some was water it was still weight in your body that ur body had to work to shed. Just breathe and trust ur husband, yourself and your surgery. Remember this is a marathon not a sprint. Granted it will be a faster marathon but ur still not gonna lose all your weight in 1 month. Your gonna get there just remember that you have to relax a little. Let ur husband give u a hug and maybe get outside and go for a walk if weather permits. -
I am 11 days post op and doing fine surgery wise but over the weekend I over reached for something on a shelf and felt a pull in my under arm. I woke up Monday morning at 4:30 with wretched pain from my sternum around to my back just behind my arm pit. It hurts to breath, move, sit, sleep. I feel a little better today but if I breath deep or move quick it feels like someone is gonna rip my breast off or stabbing me in the under arm. I even started taking my pain meds again every four hours. I actually feel worse than my surgery. Ugh. I'm tried of feeling pain. Also I wish I could take some Aleve for muscle spasms. Just had to vent and complain a little.

OMGOSH THE SMELLS!
Teresa'sTurn replied to libra_lisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm smelling things too. I think it's because we r not eating anything that is full of hormones and additives/preservatives. My sinuses have never been so clear. I usually have a lot of allergies and I have none right now. Also, I'm having no asthma symptoms. So I just think we are cleaned out due to our weeks of liquid diet and so much water. But it's just IMHO -
New here, my surgery is this friday 1/18
Teresa'sTurn posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been on my preop diet for almost 2 weeks and have lost 18 lbs so far. My highest weight was 303 but started my liquid diet at 299 so I guess I have actually lost 21 lb. I am doing really good mentally, I feel as prepared as u can be but would love any encouragement or advice. I guess one question would be, "what did u wear home from the hospital?" -
What ya eating tonight?
Teresa'sTurn replied to OleHippieGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also, you can make them yourself. Just google cheese crisps. -

Teresa'sTurn replied to OleHippieGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've never bought them but I have seen them at Kroger in the deli/cheese area. I bet HEB sells them and Central Market. They are a specialty type item at better groceries. -

So how r u 10 days out. I'm doing pretty good, my incisions are itchy and I pulled a muscle in my chest/underarm that's a challenge. But other than that I feel good. Oh yeah, also I'm ready to eat something. Tired of drinking all my meals. How r u getting along? -
I had my surgery 1/18 last Friday. I'm feeling good pain wise. Getting my protein and water in. In fact I really feel like eating something. Tired of drinking. But my biggest complaint is I'm just so tired. I slept 10 hours last night and feel like i could go back to sleep. Some days I do and take a 3 hour nap but then cant get to sleep at a decent hour at night. I just have no energy. Been making myself walk for 20-30 minutes a day though. Anyone else have this problem? Is this normal? Oh also i am taking my vitamins.

Put taco seasoning in the meat mixture and use salsa instead of ketchup. -

Oh, My Achin Tailbone
Teresa'sTurn replied to LovinIt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tailbone pain was my WORST pain in the hospital. I finally mentioned it to the nurse and she said to alternate a flat pillow underneath each butt cheek and low and behold she was right. I wish I hadn't waited to mention it. I haven't had much trouble since I've been home but will do that again if I get tailbone pain. It was like a small miracle!!! Or big if u consider the starting size of my bumm. LOL. -

January 2013 Post Op
Teresa'sTurn replied to ready2smile's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there. I had surgery on fri. jan 18 and it went fine. I got dehydrated from the surgery and my bp was really low for most of the surgery day. They doubled my IV and I got a shot of something and slowly over the next day it was more toward normal. It has slowly gotten higher each day and its normal now. So all is well there. My pain was tolerable due to the morphine. I made myself walk 2 times the night of surgery and 6 times the next day and 4 times the day I got released. I was SO PROUD of myself. I struggled with the spirometer but am doing fine now. I have asthma so my dr wants me to keep practicing with it. My only "bummer" is that I gained 15 pounds do to the IV/swelling but I have decided that this week is about healing not losing weight. So I just want to walk and drink my water and my protein and sleep. I have the rest of this year to get the weight off!! Glad to be a part of this awesome group!!! -
How did you determine your goal weight?
Teresa'sTurn posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I haven't been thin since high school, graduated 1988 at 175ish, and I don't know how to determine my goal weight. I have looked at the national weight charts and on the high side it says 155. I can't even imagine being that small. I am 5'6" and at my highest I was 303 I am currently 280 and surgery is in the morning. The only goal I have set is 60 lbs less by June 1st. How did u determine ur goal? -

Teresa'sTurn replied to Teresa'sTurn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the encouragement and advice. I will wear sweats and plan to wear them home. But I'm also gonna bring my nice nightgown and robe and might end up wearing that if my tummy is too sore. Good advice on the pillow to ride home with. -
I posted this in the general forum too and didn't get any responses yet and I thought maybe I posted in the wrong area so I posted it here too. I am having terrible trouble staying on my preop diet. liquids are just not filling enough. I am doing Protein shakes and am allowed lean meat and veggies. I have been drinking bullion and alot of Water but I have cheated a few times. I have only lost a few lbs and my surgery is this friday. I am so disappointed in myself!!! Am I really going to be able to do the band if I can't stay on the pre op diet??? Teresa
