Advice Please
comtemplating replied to stacifowler's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well- you could shop around for another dr. that does fill aggressively because lord knows all dr's do things differently!!! It is amazing to read the posts and hear the different fill levels that people receive. Because you have been through this before I imagine it is difficult to have a dr. that does things differently. My dr. only fills 1 cc at a time and I go in every two weeks. I belong to the school of thought that it is better to go slowly (I am brainwashed) :tongue2: This is going to be a decision for you to make- I know you must really be ready to get things going. There are plenty of pros to going slowly but you will likely get some responses from those that have had aggressive fills and have done just fine. Good luck on your decision- I didn't have the choice to change dr's which made at least that part easy. Take care. -
hard candies and gum???
comtemplating replied to crg2cng's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hate gum so now gum here! when I previosly did the atkins diet I ate sugerfree candy. Just be careful with the sugerfree stuff that has added fake sugar in it- terrible gas pains- like really, really painful if you eat a couple. -
Fill Nightmare!
comtemplating replied to MustLooseIt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad you got the numbing medicine!!! For those that have not yet had a fill or new to fills- I have never even seen the needle- I purposely look the other way. I have heard it is a frightening looking needle so I have no intention of ever getting a peek at it. -
5th Day out and yes I ate Chicken!!
comtemplating replied to 1234567890-'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be careful. I know many have a difficult time with the idea that just because you can eat it and tolerate it- that doesn't mean you should. Right now your life is all about healing- perhaps you can eat solids but there are risks to eating before your dr. gives you the okay. If I were you I would call the dr's office and tell them what you ate and ask them to explain the reasons why you are not allowed solids at this time in order to reinforce the ideas and strengthen the concepts. -
Weighed in at 218.2 today. That is 2.2 lbs away from my first goal-if I get my rear out of bed each morning for the next two weeks I should be able to accomplish that!!!!

Does anyone know of a lapband cookbook? I haven't been able to find one specifically for lapband patients. I am surprised there isn't one out there.

My first big NSV!
comtemplating replied to jtejada's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is awesome!!! I am on the very edge of leaving the plus size section and can't wait. I went shopping this passed weekend and the clothes in plus size were baggy but the "regular" sized were a bit tight- the pants that is. So I bought a shirt in the "regular" section and was so excited!!!! Isn't it great! What are you going to do with all the clothes you have outgrown? I have yet to decide........ -
Lactose intolerant after lapband
comtemplating posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anyone become lactose intolerant after having the lapband. I read that it does occur but I am not sure why there would be any correlation. I am running to the bathroon an awful lot and am wondering........... -

comtemplating replied to HolliJ's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have never tried them but I have noticed that people have referenced them in several threads that discuss protein shakes. Hey- anything can help you get in your protein shakes without added calories would be helpful!!! -
symptoms of slippage
comtemplating replied to RobbiedollKY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am sorry I don't know the answer to your question other than that I was told it would really hurt. BUT I am always asked when I go in for a fill if I have any nighttime coughing which can be a sign that you are too tight. ****I noticed you posted earlier about feeling like you now only eat when you are hungry and that you were feeling pretty good about things- did something happen since then? Did you recently have a fill? -
220.4 this week- I thought I would have lost.

Oh my goodness. Aren't people sometimes just ridiculous. Some people have absolutely no clue as to how their statements effect others. Is it your job to try and teach him that what he said was hurtful- probably not. Could you say something- yes you could. You mentioned he was older- it is possible that no one has educated him or even more likely that people have and he just isn't going to get it. I imagine he might be a pretty lonely person and is hard to live with. I am sorry he said those things to you- my father is very much a clueless person when it comes to understanding how things he says to me effect me. Is he a mean man- absolutely not- he is actually quite sensitive but he just doesn't get it when it comes to weight being a sensitive topic for me and general good social skills. I have learned to just brush it off (on the outside) and try not to let the statements linger on in my head. Keep up the good work and keep your head up!!!

Calling all April 17 Bandsters
comtemplating replied to ISITWORTHIT's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow- we do have similar stats. To bad we live so far apart- I am in Arizona- I could use an exercise buddy!!!! Would love to keep in touch as we continue to work on our goals. I am 3 lbs away from my first goal- to weigh 216- which is what I weighed six weeks after my twin boys were born 2 years ago. Seems like a funny goal to want to weigh what I did AFTER I was pregnant but my 2nd goal is to weigh 193 which is what I weighed when I got pregnant. Do you have any mini goals along the way to 100 lbs lost?????? -
Too tight? Not keeping liquids down...
comtemplating replied to redhead722's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All dr's are different- but at my last appointment my dr. said that if I am having trouble that I should not try and wait it out as things would not get better. She said I should come back in if this should happen. She also said that I should never have trouble with liquids. I would call again and review it with them again- be cautious of the weekend approaching as previously noted. Don't want to me with the possibility of dehydration. Good luck to you and don't even have a second thought about being a bother to your dr's office. If it doesn't feel right to you then advocate for yourself. -
Holy smokes. I bet you feel so proud. You look just beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Calling all April 17 Bandsters
comtemplating replied to ISITWORTHIT's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
well- I was banded one day before you so I thought I would respond. I have lost 31 lbs. When you are "comparing" your weightloss to others you have to keep in mind how much they have to lose total and their height- probably gender too!!! I am female, weighed 250.8 day of surgery and am 5'7". My goal is to lose 100lbs so that I will have a healthy bmi right smack dab in the middle of "normal". I think according to the lapband textbook  1-2 lbs per week is considered in the correct range or 5-10 lbs a month. So as of right looks like we are right on track. Do I wish I had lost more- absolutely but I have to focus on the long-term picture. It is hard because the weight in the beginning came off so quickly and then it slowed but I think that is pretty common. Now we have to hope to continue to lose weight and work towards restriction and stay on plan!!! I keep looking forward to how I will feel/look come Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years!!! Slow and steady. -
Starbucks Coffee Anyone?
comtemplating replied to hopeful41411's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Iced grande skinny vanilla latte for me as well. It is 60 calories. You can add extra pumps of the sugar free vanilla if you like it really sweet- 5 extra calories per pump. You can go on-line to starbucks on confirm my calorie count is accurate- going off memory here. I just ordered a bottle of sugar free vanilla syrup last night from starbucks so that I can make it at home and save $4. I will just use coffee rather than expresso, skim milk, ice, and the sugar free syrup. So far the skinny vanilla latte is the lowest calorie drink I have found at starbucks- other than plain black coffee. -
excuse the white panties and black bra...lmao...the truth behind losing a lot of weight...u can see skin hanging from my arm...a very wrinkly tummy...my port sticking out...is it better than weighing 296????...yes!!!!!!!!! i'll take this over the 296 anyd

I think you look great! BUT what is with those big panties. That is what I wear and I weigh 219 lbs. You better believe that I am throwing them away as soon as they no longer fit. Are you wearing those panties in that really hot dress- the black backless one that ties behind the neck. Forget about the saggy skin- you look great and celebrate and buy some sexy underwear that makes you feel great!!! -
I am getting fills every two weeks- four total fills- the most I have ever received at a fill was 1 cc. So I haven't reached restriction yet but have had two episodes of getting stuck after eating too fast and not chewing well. Don't mean to derail your thread but can you expand on what you mean by now that you have less restriction the food gets stuck???
-
I'm right where you are at!!!! So what I am trying to concentrate on is something that I can actually measure in addition to the weightloss- if I consume 3/4 C of protein- how long does that satisfy me. Because that is as important as the weightloss in deciding whether or not for a fill. You could lose weight in between fills but if you were also very hungry and not satisfied during that timeframe you are likely in need of a fill. Does this make sense? You could lose weight on will power itself but a large component of the band is to help with satiety and satiation so assessing your hunger is as important as assessing the weightloss. At least that is my thought process and I hope it is within guidelines as I am figuring this whole thing out!!! I struggle terribly with the mindgames- as I get closer and closer to restriction I am getting really nervous- do I really want this? UGH!!!!

Wooooooo-Hooooooooooooooooo!!!!
comtemplating replied to Catherine55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations!!! Your attitude is really great. Only 26 lbs to go- so very doable and achievable. I can't wait to be in the 170's!!! -
Weighing in today at 222.0. 6 lbs away from my first mini goal!!!! I am going to focus on these 6 lbs so that it does not feel so overwhelming.
-
I would definitely call your dr. I am still rather new to this but I wonder if perhaps you might need some labwork done to check out different levels. I am not in the medical field but I think low iron can cause you to feel tired but I can't really expand on that or any other possible things- perhaps it would just require a slight modification in your diet to up some levels. I don't think that it would be considered the norm to be tired four months post lap-band surgery. Hope you get some answers and start to get more energy. Good job with the exercise despite feeling tired. I will think of you the next time I am thinking about skipping my workout!!!!

Anyone else banded with no fill?
comtemplating replied to greta's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could wolf down In- and - Out also but after my third fill it started to hurt when I took the first few bites so I figured that was a good sign that I was moving towards restriction. So things will change as you start to get fills- it can just be a long process which I didn't really have a handle on prior to surgery. So I now have to eat slower and chew more but the amount I could consume didn't change. I am 2 and 1/2 months out now and if I could do it again I would hope that I would have made better food choices since starting back on solids- so if you can make better choices really try and do so. It can be a really difficult head game to play- knowing that you don't have restriction and CAN eat just about anything and balancing that with knowing what is recommended that you eat and choosing the right direction. The truth is that one day you won't be able to eat whatever you want and what a shocker that is going to be if you don't spend this time practicing and getting ready and the only downside being losing more weight!!! Trust this process and keep asking questions and receiving support and time will fly. -
Unexpedted negativity!!
comtemplating replied to rmanns00's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What? I don't understand the purpose of him throwing that out there other than to be hurtful. Do you think you could have heard him wrong? I am trying to think of things that rhyme or sound like that in hopes of better understanding. I think I would call him out on it and seek clarification. I can honestly not think of one reason why he would say that especially in the context you describe. I hope that you get to see yet another dr. at your next visit- perhaps he will be weeded out. Keep your head up and don't give him another thought.
