  1. I just had surgery last Friday 12/11 and I'm on a 2 week post-op diet. But here is what I don't understand. I am to have three 6-7 oz Protein shakes a day, chicken broth and Water or crystal light for addition fluids and maybe apple sauce or Jello pudding for in-between Snacks... What I don't understand is that I am drinking the three shakes as regular "meals" to get my protein, then maybe 2 cups of home made chicken broth, and 1 jello pudding each day ... maybe .. 500 cals/day .. It just don't seem like enough calories to survive.... but I am stuffed .. I can't eat/drink anything else..... Is this normal ? Thanks

    This don't seem right !!

Thanks a lot for the great information ! I realized I have lots of fat stores to rely on I was just concerned .. I've never heard of 500 cal a day... I've heard when people are on 1000 cal/ day they should have Doc supervision... Thanks again for the info... I'm looking forward to stepping on the scale in another week !

    The time has come

Well, I had my surgery yesterday. I only had 3 hrs sleep the night before because I worked afternoons so needless to say I was really tired. Dr. Benavides pre-op team made me really comfortable and then the anesthesiologist gave me some "happy medicine" to help me relax and the next thing I remember I was waking up. I thought I had dosed off and I said "I guess we are ready to have surgery now ? " and the nurses all laughed and said "no , you are all done".. Was I ever surprised. I had a little pain mostly where the port was so they have me a shot of demoral and 15 mins later a shot of morphine. They said I was supposed to force myself to walk for 5 mins every hour but it was hard to do that because I needed sleep... but I would walk around as much as possible. I got up this morning (2nd day) and I'm still a little sore but I don't want to take any of the strond presciption meds he gave me because it will just make me sleep for 4 hrs each time. So I think I will use some of that liquid tylonol I bought. I just had my first chocolate shake (6oz) and could barely finish it. This seems weird. Well, that's all for now... I hope things get better in the next few days... I hate being this immobile.
  4. Thanks a bunch btrieger !

    December Bandsters 2009

I'm getting banded this Friday, Dec 11... I had my pre-op visit with my surgeon today and that went well but I'm still nervous / excited... had a bad weekend this past weekend... I wanted to go and get a Ribeye steak and mashed potatoes at Saltgrass restaurant soooo bad ! But i resisted the temptation because in the 10 days so far on pre-op diet.. I have lost 12 lbs and my knees are less sore ! I can't wait to see how much I'll lose once I get banded !
  8. Like Homer Simpson would say ... Mmmmmm Bacon ! or was that Donut ?
  9. Well, first off, congrats on your success thus far. I'm having the surgery next Friday 12/11. It sounds like to me that your sister is jealous and is dealing with a lot of issues of her own. I would attempt to approach her in a kind way and have a heart to heart talk about it and tell her that you love her and support her and hope for her support as well. If she does not feel like being on your side in this, then move on, love her but agree to disagree. Bottom line is, you are not doing this for HER.. you are doing it for yourself.. and you can't be worrying about what other people think anymore.. You go girl !
  10. A friend of mine said he would take a can of soup with veggies, pasta, etc.. and strain it and drink that broth.. and he loved it that way .. .lots of flavor

    Too fat to graduate

I agree with you 65DueceCoupe This college has a bad thing going here and I hope the students and city rise up against them. It seems that picking on fat people is socially acceptable in the media, etc but of course you can't say anything about someone's religion, race or sex... that would be not acceptable at all.... There is a double standard here that needs to be addressed.. just my two pennies..

Hi everyone, I'm new here and I'm getting banded on Dec 11. I just started my Pre-Op diet yesterday. This will take some getting used to. Hardest part was yesterday going through my cupboards and throwing away any tempting junk. I thought it was going to be a total liquid diet for the pre-op but it's not for me. They say to have 3 protien shakes and 2 small meals lean chicken or fish and no carbs, sugars or fats. Did anyone else do this as well ? My friend at work said he was on total liquids so I'm surprised.

    Dr. Hamm Plano, TX anyone?

A friend of mine at work had Dr Hamm as his surgeon and had good things to say about him and his staff and the followup support.
  21. I met with a surgeon today who was recommened by a friend of a friend ... they told me my insurance requires me to wait 6 months before they allow the surgery .. so I guess that gives me more time to TRY another diet in the meantime ... I'm a little nervous about the whole thing.. afraid of what I've been reading about people saying food getting stuck and coming back up and all.. but in the long run its worth it .. not to have health issues .. or worse.. be dead ...
