  1. I took 2 1/2 weeks off. Just returned today (sleeved 11.28). I did fine.
  2. I read this thread to see what the answer to the OP's question was but all I read was a very negative toned thread. I am a new poster as well, and this was not what I came here for.

    Hip Pain After Vsg

I've had left hip bone on bone arthritis (one of the reasons for getting sleeved), for years. Pain has been moderate to severe daily for the past two years. I walk with a limp, and now it seems even worse. I was hoping the pain would 'decrease'! I am trying to hold off on hip replacement for as long as I can, but that does not seem feasible at this point.
  4. I can't imagine this would even be possible. Even if you lost slowly, one would expect some loss over six months. Unless you are drinking and eating thousands of calories, you should be losing something each month.

    So sick of meat!

I love quinoa. I make pilaf out of it...soft cooked carrots, onions and celery, chixen broth and a sprinkle of parmesan
  6. I thought this day would NEVER get here. After weeks of fluids, fluids, I can finally have something with substance! Saw my surgeon today and had my nutrition group. Onto protein! I went to visit my friend this afternoon after my appointments and she made me some tunafish with mayo (she was thrilled my first 'meal' was with her!...lol) I tolerated a couple of tablespoons of it without any issue at all. I took my time and waited for thirty minutes before drinking. It went really well Now I am having a scoop of baked ricotta (great recipe). I bought really good ingredients from whole foods and a wonderful basil marinara. It tastes pretty darn good. I am happy to say goodbye to protein drinks for a while!!! Scrambled egg tomorrow with some goat cheese. It's the little things that get me excited I guess. Down 21 lbs (pre and post op)
  7. Protein the first week..very moist; so stewed meats, tuna with mayo Refried beans (top with cheese) soft fish (poached, baked, moistened with lemon) Anything that can be broken down well in my mouth first. No piece bigger than your baby fingernail.
  8. About one week. Did they give you Zofran to take? Diet Snapple Green tea works well too
  9. It's happened three or four times..but darn is it memorable. Still on full fluids (I see surgeon for first post op visit tomorrow). If I finish my full fluids too soon, I get this horrible, nauseated, full, weak in the knees sensation. It lasts about 30-45 minutes (sometimes shorter), and passes. It is just awful. No pain per say, just this terrible bloated, sick to my stomach sort of feeling. Is there a name for this, or is it just overfilling my sleeve that causes it? The first time happened when I drank my Boost drink too quickly. I was at a birthday party and was feeling fairly weak, so I rushed to drink it. Bad move. I guess I need to really slow it down. Has this happened to you? Now I am frightened to start pureed foods.
  10. I drink the calorie smart Boost, only 4 gms of sugar in it.

    Stay hydrated, folks!

Very cognizant of this...I keep an eye on my urine each void. If it's even slightly dark yellow, I push the fluids. Urine should be clear to light light golden color, not yellow or amber colored. I try to keep the fluids changing...from Snapple Diet Green tea to iced herbal, to Fuze to Fruit 20...along with my full liquids, hopefully it will be enough. Having a salty fluid once in a while is also good, it retains some of the fluid that you are diuresing during this critical phase.
  16. Still very tired at times, but overall, feeling a drastic improvement from earlier this week. I found some new soups to jazz up the dietary repertoire and it;s helped (Trader Joes Tomato and Roasted Red Pepper soup and Miso soup). Weight has dropped 16 lbs since my first post op day. (had gained 10 lbs in fluid immediately post op). Total weight loss since beginning this journey around 18 lbs. I still find myself napping (which I never do except when sick), but I guess my body needs the sleep. Sleeping very well at night Lower plumbing back in working order. One per day (TMI--sorry!) but happy for the results. I return to work on the 17th and I have my annual holiday party here at my house next Saturday My BF has been amazingly supportive and helpful and thank God for friends who will help with the party planning. How is everyone else doing?
  17. I'll be curious to see as well. I am only eight days post op, down 5 lbs from prep wgt, but down 18 since my presurg diet began. I heard the first month is fairly dramatic.
  18. this does not seem like enough food or calories overall. How about more protein Snacks, or supplement with a protein shake? Your body will hold onto weight if it feels it is starving..so feed it more food. Make sure you are drinking enough fluids as well.
  19. Carnation Instant Breakfast (Blue Box, No Sugar Added) is palatable but overall not a great protein choice. I am really trying to get in at least 60 gms of protein per day.
  20. When you say you can't keep it down, are you actually vomiting? That in itself would be a concern that I would alert your surgeon to. As far as protein, I try to drink at least two "Careone" Whey protein powder/8 oz Simply Smart milk. I bought the protein powder at my local Stop and Shop and it was pretty cheap (10 bucks). It's not super sweet and it has 25 grams of protein per scoop, so with the milk, it's a great source of protein. Plus, 8 oz of fluid is nothing. It doesn't come out too thick at all. Sometimes, I put a half packet of Carnation Instant Breakfast, Chocolate SF flavor in for extra chocolate taste and added protein grams. I have put a few tablespoons of flavored instant potatoes into my chicken broth for a potage sort of hot soup. It's comforting and tastes pretty decent (I buy the loaded potato and four cheese flavors). I have had no issue with pain etc with this.

    Downtime After Sleeve.

I took 2.5 weeks off. My surgery was on Wed the 28th of November, and I am returning 12/17. I am fortunate to have separate vacation/sick time and extended sick time. We get one full week per year of extended sick time, so I have about 10 weeks saved. I was lucky.

    Anyone From New England?

Beantown here...had my VSG at MGH on 11/28..Dr Meireles...MGH Weight Center
  24. I'm still on full liquids for full two weeks post op (day 5 today). I typically drink 2 protein drinks per day with 100% whey in chocolate or vanilla, SF pudding, jello, yogurt as well as a cup of broth with a few tbsp of instant flavored mashed potatoes or I eat Campbells tomato soup made with milk. The first few days were tough, and although extremely boring, I am tolerating better
