    October 2006 Bandsters!

Roxy - I didn't lose a pound in my second week. Not an ounce. I then went on to lose 3 lbs in my third week, even though in my third week I had upped my calorie intake to 1000-1200. I know it's hard not to focus on the scale, but your body is adjusting to the big change you have put it through. Try and think of the time up until your first fill as your time to heal and your time to work on changing your habits. I just finished my first week of mushies, and again didn't lose a pound. As much as I would have loved to have lost something this week, I know it will come. Just keep at it, and it will speed up again. Hope everyone else is doing well! Kstar glad to hear the infection is doing better!

Hi everyone!! It has only been a few days since I've visted LBT, but man it seems like I've missed so much!! Hope everyone is doing well and enjoyed their weekend. Where-o-where did it go? lol. So today I marched in a Halloween parade with my 2 year old neice. She was so cute! I will post a pic once I get them on my computer. I was a bat, and she was Cinderella. It was a great way to get in some exercise too. Speaking of exercise....Sherry and I are going to start taking Country Line Dancing lessons together once a week. How fun! I've taken a couple classes in the past, and it's a great workout. I'm all about the work outs that are fun. So this was my first full week of mushies. It was wonderful! lol. My weight fluctuated a lot over the week, but this morning when I weighed in I was the same. That is fine with me, especially considering I have my TOM anyway. I figured mushies would stall things a bit, so I'm not concerned. I need to take it easy though. I overdid it yesterday moving around a bunch of clothes. I was a little sore this morning when I woke up. Well I think I'm going to head to bed early tonight. I'm wiped! Talk to you all soon!

Mauimarion - I was on full liquids by the time I left the hospital, which included cream soups and pudding. Just no chunks. All the doctors seem to recommend different things, so I would check with him. Out of curiosity, for those of you on the birth control pill, how long did your doctor make you get off for?

Hi there! Hope everyone is doing well! Things are good here. My incision is healing up pretty well. Still have some scabbing where he re-opened but no infection so I'm happy. I feel great, and have been trying to stick to a 1200 calorie diet on mushies. I've done pretty well. Some days I'm a little more but overall I think it's a huge victory. I got my TOM today, and I had such a hard time eating. I had two slices of thin sliced deli roast beef for breakfast, some cheese and crackers for lunch, and two meatballs for dinner. Oh, and a glass of wine at a party I went to tonight. I feel a little tipsy. lol. Good thing I didn't drive. lol. How is everyone else doing? Dez I'm sorry to hear you've had a hard time eating. Has it gotten any better? Well I think it's time to go sleep off my glass of wine. I'm such a bad girl!! lol

Dani - bruising around the port site is fairly common so i'm told. I had some as well. I would keep the steri strips on as long as possible. The skin around my port incision is all irritated from the steri strips and bandages so I know what you mean. My doctor does not do the first fill for 8 weeks. Just a few more days in October for our bansters. Good luck to those who will be banded soon!! There are almost 100 of us being banded this month!

Kstar, sorry to hear about your infection!! Follow your Doctor's orders and watch it carefully. If it's not getting better go back in to see your doctor. Glad to hear you're doing well otherwise!

purtynailz - I LOVE the mushy stage! I've had canned peaches/pears, ground beef, egg salad, turkey burgers (ground turkey with hidden valley ranch seasoning packet mixed in), creamed spinach, Vegetable soup, meatballs, mashed potatoes, meatloaf. Well I haven't had all that but I did buy the items to make all that. Hope this gives you some ideas!

Eileen - so sorry to hear things aren't feeling any better. You are right to press on if you think something else is going on. You have to be your own advocate. Hi everyone else!!! I hate being back at work. I don't have as much time to post anymore. lol. Hope you're all doing well!

    Port Incision Not Closing Up

I had problems with my incision leaking fluid and the incision was red around the edges. I called the doctor's office and they agreed that I should come in just in case. There was no infection, but he did re-open the wound to let it drain, and then closed it back up. Since then it has been much better. I would call the doctor's office and ask to come in and have it looked at. You don't want to get an infection and have your port become infected. If you were banded on the 6th, I don't think the incision should still be open. Also, there are some viruses you can catch, such as MRS, that will prevent a wound from healing. This virus can easily be caught in a hospital as it's airborne. My friend got it when she had a c-section, and my mom got it from a surgery as well. I'm of the better safe than sorry mentality, so I would go back in and have it checked.

Hi everyone! Macdeb59 - try some grated cheese in the tomato soup. It melts in your mouth so my nutritionist approved it for the liquids stage. It was sooo yummy! Cootie - yes, my bruises from the heparain were horrible, and I still have remnants of them 3 weeks out. I was shocked how bad the bruises were. lol Threebeauties - My doctor won't do a fill until 8 weeks out either. I was really worried how I would as when appetite came back after a week, I was absolutely starving all through my liquids stage. Within an hour of eating I would be hungry again. I was just so tired of being hungry all the time. Once I started mushies though, it became soooo much better. Now when I eat it stays with me for a while. I am eating three meals a day with two Snacks, and while I get hungry, it's not constant or unbearable. I've been tracking my food on fitday and I've been staying between 900 - 1200 calories a day. To me, this is a huge victory. There are times I want to eat, eat, eat (like now, about 45 min after I've eaten dinner, even though I'm still full) but I know it's just head hunger. So that's what I'm fighting now. It's not easy, but I'm making progress. I'm very encouraged that I will be able to make it until the 8 weeks without it being a huge struggle. So hang tough during the liquid stage. It does get better!

    Just banded on 10/18/06

Congrats Suzanne! I would say yes, your progress seems very normal. I was very hungry the first week out, but could only eat small, small amounts. Throughout the whole liquid phase I never really felt full for longer than an hour. It was definitely tough, but something that has to be done. I was a little dizzy and weak my first week too. It's all part of the process I'd say. You sound like you're doing well though, which is great. Welcome to bandland!

Bostongurl I'd say you've been doing FANTASTIC! :clap2: 69 lbs in 6 months! I can only dream of having such sucess. If you don't mind sharing, how has your journey been so far? How many fills have you had? Welcome justpaul, and congratulations on the band! Wow - I can't believe you went to work the next day. I was out of commission for a week!

Hey everyone! Dez - I'm doing great thanks for asking. I have moved to mushies so I am in heaven. Hopefully my weight loss won't stop, but I've heard that it does stall a bit on mushies. I am going to keep tracking on fit day so hopefully if I keep staying under 1200 calories I should be ok. I also think it's time to start the exercise now that my incision is doing better! How are things going for you Dez? How are things now that you've had your first fill?

Good luck to getnhealthy and any others who are getting banded this week. Yahoo!! Irish dancers I was really hungry during the liquid stage too. I felt like I would eat and then 1 1/2 later I would be starving again. Now that I am on mushies I do not get hungry as often. Hope you get to move to mushies soon!

    Working stiffs, how long...

Winner I went back to work after two weeks and am glad I took that much time off, but I remember thinking on the 10th day out that I could definitely have gone to work that day. Good luck!

Momotrips I completely agree that the surgery was worse than I thought it was. It took me a full week to feel better. I was still sore the second week, but felt much better. That first week I never walked farther than to the bathroom. lol. Just focus on getting some rest and you'll get there. I"m three weeks out and have felt 100% for quite a while.

Oh Sherry, you look freakin amazing! When I see you in person I see the difference, but when I look at those pics, man, I SEE the difference. I am welled up with tears because I am so happy for you, and because I know how much this means to you. Keep up the GREAT work!! Nana - sounds like your psych visit went pretty well all things considered. She is a piece of work alright. She was late for me as well, but the kicker is that while we were in the middle of our meeting her phone rings, she answers it, and is having a conversation about another patient while I'm in the room!! First of all I'm paying you a $100 out of my pocket for this visit, and secondly HIPPA. Helllooo!!! Then I realized she wasn't even listening to me when I was talking, and then she was telling me how 40% of the people never come back, and they fail with the band, etc, etc. It was awful! About 1/2 way through I just decided to keep my mouth shut and sit there because she was crazy. lol. I think she just really liked to hear herself talk. Well I get to progress to mushies this weekend. YEAH!!!!!!!! I had scrambled eggs for breafast. Yummy!! Hope everyone is doing well!

Eileen sorry to hear you're still having a rough time! I've had bouts with back pain and it is just horrible! Ugh! Darcy, Cindy, Mandy, Kat - thanks for the comments on the breath. I think the census is ketosis, which is good, but also stinks (literally)! lol. I'm hoping once I start mushies it will help a bit. Until the bad breath is gone, I'm taking myself of the dating scene! Can't be kissing with ketosis breath!! Oh my!
