Hey All - For those of you recently banded, do you have a horrible taste in your mouth? I had it during my pre-op diet, but it's a symptom of ketosis. I went to bed last night and had a green tongue. I googled it and apparently it's a side effect of the anesthesia, and not an issue. I've been trying to drink as much as possible, but my mouth is gross!!!! Anyone else??

So...I tried a Diet Dr. Pepper, so excited that I got the clearance from my doctor. I had two sips and turns out I couldn't stand it! My mouth hated the feel of the bubbles in my mouth. Didn't hurt when it got to my stomach at all, just hated the taste. So even though my doctor cleared me and he says soda is fine it seems my days with soda are officially over.

How did the warm tea work? Are you still feeling too tight this morning?

I asked my doc this question the other day. He has a band, has had one for 9 nine years. He told me that it's an urban myth that soda will hurt your band. He drinks diet coke daily. He did say that I should drink it over ice and also that I should let it sit for about 5 mins just to get that initial kick out of there. I know everybody's doctor is different, but that's how mine feels about it. Haven't had a soda yet, but I'm going to try a Diet Dr. Pepper again this week.

Karen - you are doing so well!! Have you lost all of that weight since surgery? I've had three fills for a total of 6.25 cc's in a 10cc band. I have great restriction. Feel like I could use one more tiny fill and I should be at my sweet spot. I eat about 1/2 - 3/4 cup of food and feel full. I've had one sliming experience...it was AWFUL! I find that if I eat slowly I'm good. In terms of the drinking thing, I find that if I suck on a tic tac or chew gum I can avoid drinking for the 30 mins I'm supposed to and that works well for me.

Hey Ladies - Sarah AMAZING 31.2!! Congratulations. So what does the sweet spot feel like? I'm not sure if I'm there or not yet, but I'm finding that I have a ton of restriction. Just wondering what you're feeling. What is a typical day of eating for you meal and calorie wise? I'm doing well, LOVING my band. I've lost 56 so far and am down to 227. Excited to get to the next step of 60 and then in the the 2-teens.

Hey All - I've just had my third fill and now have 6.25cc's in a 10cc lap band. After my second fill I had great restricion for about 2.5 weeks and then it all but disappeared. That was at 5.5cc's. With this fill I definitely feel a bit of restriction when I drink - you know the Water cooler feeling. My question for you is this. I was on liquids for two days, now I'm on day 1 of 2 on mushies. I had coffee for Breakfast - too tight to eat, and then 3/4 cup refried Beans with weight watchers cheese for lunch. Less than 3 hours later I was hungry. And not head hunger, but stomach growling hunger. Does this mean that the fill wasn't enough or is it too soon to tell and I'll need to wait until I'm eating solids to really know? Thanks in advance! I am completely with you on the loosening band bit. I had my second fill on September 21st bringing me to 5.5. in a 10cc band. I had amazing restriction, actually wondered if I was at my sweet spot. I couldn't eat in the morning, eating about 1000 calories a day with no real hunger (some head hunger). Now, almost three weeks out I don't feel like I have that same level of restriction. I can eat toast in the morning again and am hungry within about two hours. I think I'm going to call again today and see if I can get in for a fill on Monday.

It's amazing how different it is for each doctor. My nutritionist guidelines said 1/2 cup to 1 cup max per meal, but at the same time said 800-1200 calories a day. I eat no more than 1 cup per meal, but rarely eat as little as 1/2 cup. It's working for me.

Ooh today is my two month bandiversary!! I'm thrilled with my decision. I've lost 53 pounds in 2 1/2 months (including my 2 week pre-op diet) and have had 2 fills - I currently have 5.5cc's in a 10cc band and have excellent restriction. Scheduled for my next fill on October 19th. I'll probably still get it but probably only .5 cc or so. Hoping that will have me at my sweet spot!!

Layer 1/2 cup refried beans, 1/4 cup mashed potatoes microwave with cheddar cheese. YUMMY! I still eat this one. Another is to blend veggie chili. Melt cheddar cheese over it and add fat free sour cream. Lastly, 1/2 cup ricotta cheese, layer with your favorite spaghetti sauce and sprinkle mozzarella cheese over it. It's like noodleless lasagna. Good luck!

Bethany - It's different for everyone but I'll tell you the gas pains in my left shoulder were debilitating, such pain, brought me to tears. BUT, it only lasted a week. By the 7th day I was feeling significantly better. I am now 10 weeks out and haven't had a gas pain like it since week one. It does get better!!

I mix it up a bit but always try to focus on protein. I'll bring tuna (I mix with miracle whip light) and toast up some sandwich thins or bring crackers. Other days I try salad and like Catherine eat the protein out with just a little bit of lettuce. Other days, I do beans with cheese or veggie chili with cheese and fat free sour cream.

Mine was rescheduled due to bronchitis - I was feeling better but they wouldn't do my surgery until I had finished my antibiotics. It was only postponed 5 days and ended up being a blessing. Can't imagine coughing after surgery...it would have hurt too much.

Christine!! Welcome, so thrilled to have you here. This group of women and men is incredibly supportive and a great place to check in with people on progress etc. So glad to have you and to see that you're doing so well! I had a very similar feeling just after I was banded. It hurt every time I took a deep breath and was sometimes even impossble to do so. It went away after the first week and I'm four weeks out and feeling great! It will get better, just keep in touch with your doctor about it!

Question for you ladies. I had surgery August 7th and had very little port pain, except when getting up the week after surgery. However, yesterday I got stabbing pains to the right of my belly button, about two inches below my port. I thought it was gas, I had veggie chili for lunch, but then today got my period. Still have a little bit of the pain this morning, but not nearly like yesterday. Has anyone else had this? Is it related to your period I wonder? I have a dr's appt on Friday, but just thought I'd check in with you all!
