    Aug 10th is surgery!

Allison, I've been doing the Slim Fast Optima Chocolate Royale. I mix with 1 cup skim milk and 1/2 cup ice in a blender, it's amazing! I think this will be my breakfast or snack for life...tastes like Nesquik Chocolate milk.

    August 2009 bandsters?

Hi Nancy - Congrats to you!! The pre-op diet is going really well!! I've lost 10.6 as of this morning. Once I got past day three, I started to feel much better about things. Now, I find that when I'm hungry, it's time to eat or "drink" something. If I could just get past this darn cold, things would be great! Continued good luck to you!!

    Pre-op Diet?

Hey Jacqui - I think you started your pre-op diet today...hope it went well!! I've got to share, I'm in love with Slim Fast Optima Chocolate Royale (powder form), for anyone who is stuck for a good drink. I mix it with 1 cup skim milk, 1/2 cup ice and I feel like I'm cheating by drinking a chocolate milkshake. Give it a try if you haven't already! Good luck everyone!

    Better Late Than Never.

Congratulations Liz!! We're being banded on the same day (we'll I'm hoping). I'm scheduled for that day, but have come down with a pretty bad cold. Seeing my PCP tomorrow and have my pre-op testing Thursday so hoping I'm better by then!! I wanted to tell you that the first three or four days of my pre-op diet were really hard, but that it's gotten MUCH easier since then. I'm on almost all liquids (5 slim fast shakes a day) and two cups of veggies. Just wanted to tell you that, for me at least, it's gotten a bit more easier to take. Hope it goes that way for you too! Congrats again. So exciting!!

    August BANDits weekly weigh-in

Hey Jacqui - I can't seem to figure out how to use the chart you've got, but I'm happy to report that I'm down 10.6 pounds from last Monday. Good news is that the pre-op diet works and you get used to it by day five (at least that's been my experience so far!) Right now, I'm still sick. Sore throat and ear infection, so have a call into my PCP to get something since I can no longer take OTC medications as surgery is next Monday! Hoping I get better quickly, cannot cannot cannot delay this surgery!! Hope you all had fantastic weight loss weeks! Jen

    My Family Rocks!!!

Awesome story Tiffany!! Thanks for sharing. I LOVE that your grandma is doing it. That is amazing! I'm on day five and agree with Julie..day 3 was when I hit the wall. Was sick yesterday with flu like symptoms but have good energy today and am not as hungry. Hoping this sticks! Good luck with the driving and go go go!! Jen
  9. I'm on day five of a two-week liquid diet. I get to have two cups of certain veggies as well each day. The first day was fine, second and third tough and I got the flu. Today seems to be easier, but I am over slim fast optima. I need to find another liquid protein subsitute that I like, because I cannot drink them anymore!! I still have 9 days left before surgery. Haven't cheated!

    August Bios

What caused the delay do you know?? That is so frustrating!! Well, the good news is you should still be okay. I submitted on July 2 and even with the July 4th holiday I received my approval on July 14th, so realistically about a week/week and a half. I know insurance's are all different, but they should try and push it through at this point. UGH!! Sorry that you have to deal with that!
  11. Congratulations on the approval!! I was so nervous and then with the July 4th holiday it only took a week to get approved, was so not anything to be nervous about! I got verification this week. I'm approved for 3 days in the hospital just in case I need it and my total out of pocket is $550....$550 for a $25k surgery...I'm good with that!
  12. Glad it's going so well for you. I'm on day four and it's been tough. I'm only allowed Protein shakes and then two cups of veggies. I was starving yesterday, the shakes just aren't filling me up. I'm sick with flu like symptoms today, very achy, sore throat. I strained the chicken and veggies out of a low sodium progresso soup this morning and had about 1/2 cup of that, it was so good. The first taste of anything salty I've had since Sunday. I've got to do this until August 3, date of my surgery and then 10 days after before I get yogurt or cottage cheese....I'm dreaming about that!! Continued good luck to you!!

    Pre-op Diet?

Day 3 of the liquid diet and I am so hungry I can't stand it. I was good until about 4:30. I heated up some chicken broth (low sodium) which I am allowed to have unlimited amounts of...it's disgusting! No wonder you can have as much as you want! I have 11 days left....ugh ugh ugh!!
  14. Dg298h - very cool that we're same surgeon same day! I'm sure we'll meet at some point! All - formerfatchick mentions in a previous post that there is another thread for us August Bandsters, seems to be a bit more thorough with polls, weekly weigh ins, bios, etc. I wanted to make sure everyone knew since it may be easier for us all to be posting in one place instead of multiple. I'm going to be hanging out over there! It's August 09 Bandsters - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum

    Pre-op Diet?

My doctor requires two weeks of mainly Protein shakes (they provide you with a list) and two cups of veggies if you want something crunchy. I've chosen slim fast because they are simple and I don't think they taste horrible. Not required to lose a specific amount of weight on the pre-surgical diet, just need to shrink the liver. However, I'm hoping to lose some decent weight before surgery. p.s. We're allowed two tablespoons of non-fat dressing on veggies. I put a splash of balsamic vinegar over a cup of cucumbers, carrots and onions. Would never have believed I would find that appetizing but when you can only drink protein shakes, it's a dreamy meal!!

    August Bios

Hey everyone, I'm jen...36, live in NYC. I'm on day 2 of the liquid diet and so far so good. I'm currently 286 pounds and 5'8. Surgery is scheduled for August 3rd with Dr. Fielding in NYC. I've been overweight most of my life but had great success on weight watchers about 8 years ago. Dropped to 186.2 pounds! However...you know when you go to the ocean and you run to the Water, it's too cold so you run away. That was pretty much 186 for me. Maybe there for about an hour! Looking forward to this journey! Jacquie - thanks for letting me know this thread was here!! Jen
  17. Okay Everybody...liquid diet started today. Mine is two weeks long, mostly liquid but I'm allowed two cups of veggies (no beans, potatoes, corn) a day with two tablespoons of fat free dressing. I had four ready to drink slim fast shakes today (creamy milk chocolate) and then a cup of carrots, onions and cucumbers with 1/2 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar. I just made a protein shake with slim fast (chocolate royale), 1 cup skim milk and 1/2 cup ice. I'm telling you...I NEVER believe those people who say "It was so good, tasted like a milkshake". But, seriously....IT WAS SO GOOD, IT TASTED LIKE A MILKSHAKE, and I'm stuffed! Now...not sure how I'll feel on day 3, 5, or 14, but today was good. Gives me hope that I'll make it through the next two weeks. One day at a time!

    Surgery Date of Aug 3

Hi CarrieLynn, my surgery is August 3rd as well! We've started an August band group if you haven't seen it yet. Just wanted to make sure you knew that it existed. Many of us have begun the liquid diet - I started today. I'm doing slim fast, not sure that it's economical, but they taste okay. Good luck!
  19. And I would be an idiot....that is the August 08 group! Note to self: Day one of liquid diet can make you lose brainpower! That would be why there are 968 posts. HA! Disregard my previous post... Someone did mention in an earlier post that we should come up with a name. What do you think? I'll throw a potential out there, August Allies? What else?
  20. Hi Everyone - I just noticed that there is another August thread - "Who's getting banded in August?" Tons of people, they have a name etc. Just wanted to let you all know!
  21. Formerfatchick...TAO was amazing!! I've been there a couple of times. It's definitely my favorite in the city next to Virgils BBQ.
  22. Okay...tomorrow's the day, liquid diet begins!! I had my "last supper" tonight with girlfriends at Tao in NYC...yummy!! I have everything ready to go, doing Slimfast shakes as it was on the list and I've had them before and they tasted fine. We'll see. I'm actually excited to begin, but I'm sure that excitement will quickly fade. Here we go!!

    Jen Before

  24. LL67 don't apologize!! I don't think you're being negative at all, but we should be able to be anyway we want to be here even if we're having a bad day right? Sucks that your family isn't supportive. Hope they come around for you! formerfatchick, I'm in Arizona on vacation - I know you are probably asking yourself, who goes to Arizona in July, it's 113 degrees today - visiting family!! Anyway, won't be able to make it to the support group, but anxious to hear about your experience and what you learn there if you're willing to share?!?
  25. What I've heard is that the lap band is a tool, not a cure. I've had two friends who have had the surgery done, one just a few months ago and her progress has been slow, and one who lost 100 pounds her first year. The one who has had slow weight loss hasn't been following the program eats sugar, etc. Ultimately, we have to work the band, not consider it the magic pill that is going to allow us to lose weight without even trying. I haven't told alot of people that I'm having the surgery for the specific reason that I didn't want their negative opinions. Only I know what's right for me and after 30+ years of being overweight, I believe I need this surgery to live a happy and healthy life.
