Angie - I have to take a crushed pill for my asthma every night. Mine doesn't taste horrible, but I put a little Vitamin Water on the spoon with it, or propel whatever juice you like. It seems to go down a bit easier. Hope it clears up quickly!! Jen

I'm still having a ton of left shoulder and arm pain. It gets so intense that my mom had to help me up from a laying position today because when I tried to sit up on my own I had shooting pains in my arm. I have my post op tomorrow so I'm hoping he can tell me if there is anything that I can do for this.

Thinking about Lap-Band ...where to start?
jennyr1222 replied to shahsosweet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi - I'm in NYC as well and had my surgery at NYU medical center. The biggest thing I was surprised to find out at the info session was that the majority of insurance companies require a six month supervised diet with your doctor. I actually saw people get up and leave after they heard this, which I assume was because people were looking for a quicker fix (again assumption on my part). Regardless, be prepared that if you're going through insurance it will likely take a while - I have CIGNA and it was 7 months total to my surgery date. However, you shouldn't get discouraged! That time flew by for me and I appreciate now that I had it. The surgery comes before you know it. I'm only six days post op and am much heavier than you - started 282, I'm 5'7. Do your research, get as much information as possible. Great start by joining this forum! There is a wealth of information here for you. Good Luck, Jen -
Okay, so sorry for the gross post, but question for all of you recently banded. I have mucus in my throat that won't come up. It feels like I have a ball at the back of my throat. Do any of you have this? If so, what are you doing for it? Thanks, Jen
-
Yeah, my throat hurt up until yesterday - I'm six days post op today. I feel like I have a ball in my throat still. Waiting to get this thrush cleared up, hoping it's related to that. I've been working that incentive spirometer, so the mucus should have cleared up by this point.

now i think im gettng a yeast infection :(
jennyr1222 replied to mommyx2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have thrush (yeast infection of the mouth)...still waiting for my PCP to call in a prescription mouthwash for me. So frustrating. I think it's from the meds they put in your IV. I always take acidophillus when I'm on antibiotics and am able to avoid a yeast infection but didn't have the opportunity this time! GRRRR -
Shoulder pain!!! Help!!!
jennyr1222 replied to amandah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am six days post op and experiencing the same thing. I have no pain where my incisions are, but terrible shoulder pain. I thought it had gotten better, woke up yesterday felt great. Halfway through a broadway show, I had to leave because I was in so much pain. It hurt with every breath I took and hurt to even lift my arm. I came home took liquid tylenol and use a moist heating pad. The heating pad seems to do the trick for me. Today is still bad, hoping it goes away soon. Good luck with yours....at least you know your not alone! -
did anyone start the mushy/pureed stage a day ahead?
jennyr1222 replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely ask your surgeon first! All of our doctors are different, our bodies are different and our surgeries were different. Your safest bet is to ask your surgeon. Even though it's one day, it may be the extra day of healing your doctor believes you need. Good luck! -
Those that have been banded.....

I had nothing on under the gown, but I had two nurses who were really good about laying me down and putting warm blankets on me before removing the gown. Then they put me under before they took anything off, so I was never "naked" while conscious. For some reason it made a difference for me since I wasn't alert when they saw me naked.....weird? -
Well ladies, I found out that I have thrush! I have white spots all over my tongue, sides and back of my mouth. I'm thinking that may be causing some of the problem. Waiting for my PCP to call me back and hoping he'll just call in a prescription for me. Here's hoping!

Well said Restless Monkey! Thanks for the thoughtful feedback.

Patty, A couple of things. I'm on thin liquids as well. I've been having 1/2 cup to a cup of slim fast optima (chocolate royale in the powder form, tastes like chocolate milk). In the afternoon I've been doing organic Soups. They sell them in cartons...I've had tomato, potato leak and butternut squash. They are all very liquidy but very good and satisfying. I supplement the rest of the day with sugar free popsicles. I would also call your doctor and see if you can get in for an appt. When is your post op check up? That will put you at ease because they can see if you're okay. Sorry things are so tough right now, but you'll get through this. These weeks are the toughest!! Jen

The bloating went away for me yesterday (so day three). I still have a little bit, but it's much better. I still have the horrible gas pain in my left shoulder and because of the mucus feel like there is a golf ball in my throat. I wasn't hungry until today but find that my stomach is definitely growling today. I've been doing 4 oz protein shake and 2-4 oz of soup when I get hungry. Can't wait for mushies! I have my follow up on Friday, so I'm hoping I get the all clear to move on to mushies that day! We'll see. -
Any one Banded 8/4/09 or 1st week of August
jennyr1222 replied to ToomuchRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All - I was banded Friday August 7th in NYC. I'm on liquids and find that I'm hungry, but once I eat I'm good. Not getting enough Protein, so I tried Isopure today...horrible aftertaste, but I'll drink it. I wanted to let you all know that we have an August group that we formed a while ago. If you go to the home page of the forum and scroll down you'll get to 2009 Bandsters. Under that you'll find August 2009. We've got a group name and a great group of ladies and gentlemen there. I know some of you have found it already but I thought I'd let the rest of you know!! Good luck everyone! Jen -
The chick has joined the band !!!

Yeah Jacqui!! Welcome to banded land! I'm so glad your experience was great and the 13th floor treated you well! Keep us updated on your progress. I'm four days out and am having horrible left shoulder pain today. I've never had any incision pain, so I'm lucky there, but as someone else on here said, I would saw off my arm right now if I could! xoxo, Jen -
Hi Jacqui - Hope you are doing okay. Can't wait to hear how everything went for you. xoxo, Jen

Can't take anymore protein shakes!
jennyr1222 replied to adelarosa33's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree that the Protein shakes have taken their toll. BUT they are the only way I'm able to get protein right now. I'm going to GNC today to buy some IPOSURE, haven't tried that yet. What I've done is take 4 oz of Protein shake and eat them with a spoon. For some reason it goes down easier than "drinking" them. May be worth a shot?!? Good Luck! -
Definitely try and take the pain meds, or at least Tylenol. My gas pain is still pretty bad. Very much in my left shoulder, and my chest hurts really badly when I burp. If I take the pain meds, it takes the edge off the nerve pain. Hope we feel better soon!

WOW Jason!!! Congrats! Keep up the amazing work! -
We can do this Patty, hang in there! We just need to get through this few couple of weeks where it's the toughest and then move on to solid foods where we get some of those foods we love back, but in smaller portions. I'm on liquids for 10 days. I've been eating a lot of soup and am trying to do different varieties so I don't get bored. I have my post op on Friday, hoping I can move to mushies then. Remember why we did this. It's not for today, but for how healthy we will be tomorrow, in a month and next year. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!
-
I'm so sorry you're feeling so bad. Definitely call the office and see if you can drink a different shake or something. I had trouble drinking my shakes, and so I started using a spoon. I'm able to get them down much easier that way. Please give us an update after you've spoken to your surgeon. Jen
