I get banded and Trader Joe's opens up...
socalgal3 replied to Darragha's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Darr- I am SO not trying to be mean, but having a PB 10 days post-op is not a good thing! It doesn't mean you have restriction, it means you are probably still swollen internally from the surgery. Please be careful and eat things that don't need to be chewed- like yoghurt, mashed potatoes, creamy soups, protein shakes, etc. Eating solids too soon can jeopardize the healing of your band!! -
I get banded and Trader Joe's opens up...

A salmon burger 10 days post-op? Is that really considered a mushy food by your surgeon? Please be careful of moving on to solid foods too soon. BTW, I LOVE Trader Joe's! -
Calling all "seasoned" bandsters!!!! pre bandster searching answers from the wise.
socalgal3 replied to bandster_1007's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've been banded 15 months. I experienced a slip. It didn't respond to an unfill, so I had surgery to reposition my band in January. I have lost 80 pounds and I am very happy with my progress. I love my band and hope to have it for a long time! -
I'll be in of course, but a before and after won't really show a 5lb. difference will it??

Sorry if I'm annoying you all with my daily updates, but I feel like the accountability of posting is keeping me focused right now. So, I did 20 minutes on my exercsie bike and 3 sets of 5 different arm exercises(I can't afford arm surgery for the bat wings!!) I got in all my protein(60g + daily) and my water. I even got 17g of fiber which is alot for me! It's so hard to get fiber in! We are all pulling for Regina to be the first Junebie at goal! I am gunning for second-anyone care to challenge me? haha Have a healthy Friday!TGIF!

1 Yr Bandiversary - Thanks for all your help

Lisa- CONGRATS!! Keep it going! -
I haven't had these, but I have heard some people (WASABubblebutt for one) say that these are bad for you. Do a search for other posts about protein. Nonfat and lowfat dairy products are good for Breakfast options if you don't like eggs or cottage cheese. chicken, beef and pork are all good Proteins, but so is fish, tofu/soy products, etc. Start reading labels now and follow other posters who recommend spreading intake throughout the day. It's hard at first to figure out what will go down well, what you like and what has good nutritional value! Protein powders, shakes and bars help when you can't seem to get it all in. Best of health!

At least you were the one to out yourself. I see your posts all the time and your weight loss is awesome so far. Keep up the great work!

back to square one - band slip fixed - back on liquids
socalgal3 replied to skinnymom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh! I feel your pain. I was so depressed when I found out I had slipped. I physically couldn't eat, so I had to be on liquids. I was self-pay, so I had to wait to get financed all over again and wait for my doctor to get me a date and get time off work.....so it felt like I was on liquids FOREVER! I vented to my June 2006 thread alot! Between pre-op, post-op, fills, slip, etc. I felt like 50% of my journey was on liquids! But, after my repair, things are SO MUCH better! I think my band wasn't in a good spot to begin with because I struggled alot. After the revision I have felt 100% better and my weight loss has been steady. I am nearly to goal. Hang in there! It is a tough time, but take it as a learning experience and treasure your band! I faced the possibility of losing my band, but luckily they were able to reposition it without removing it. It gave me a new appreciation for my band and I know I don't ever want to be without it. I hope you heal quickly and that things soon improve. PM me if you need support! -
Keeping my surgery secret from most of my family, has anyone else
socalgal3 replied to misjanete's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I didn't tell anyone at first. Now only one person knows. It is a very personal decision in my opinion. Some people love to shout from the rooftops that they have a band and I support them 100%, but I am a very private person in all areas of my life, so I didn't feel that it concerned anyone else. Best of luck to you! -
Good to hear from you Barbara! Glad you are feeling better Cathy! I had another good day-3 in a row! I walked for 2 hours at the beach, got in all my protein and water and stayed within my calories. I think that hypnotism has helped me alot. I always knew my weight battle was all in my head and hypnotism really has calmed me down stress-wise and motivated me exercise-wise. It may not be the answer for everyone, but it was the right thing at the right time for me. I listen to my personalized CD every night before bed and go to group every Monday. I'm a believer!

Happy Birthday Barbaras! Sorry you are still struggling with depression Cathy. I hope the "clouds" soon pass. I had another good day! I had a protein shake for breakfast, a Lean Cuisine for lunch, tuna for dinner and a granola bar for snack. I got in all my protein and did my "You: On A Diet" intermediate workout DVD. I have 2 more glasses of water to get all my fluids in. I'll be watching Biggest Loser to keep me motivated! Reach that goal Regina!!

Where is everyone? Poodles-did you get the EGD? I did good yesterday. I rode my exercise bike 30 minutes and did 3 sets of 5 different arm exercises. I also got all my water and protein in. And I went to hypnosis. I am going walking at the beach tomorrow with a gal from work. I hope everyone else is doing well.

What to do with all of our old clothing??
socalgal3 replied to blahblahblah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I actually received some pants from a fellow bandster on LBT that helped me through a "phase". I offered some clothes to a friend, but gave most of mine to the local thrift store. I need to go through my closet and drawers again because I am passing through another "phase". I tried to put off buying new clothes by wearing belts, etc, but I'm starting to look like a bag lady! -
Why can't I do this alone???
socalgal3 replied to angelsoul's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Is there someone else from the seminar or in this forum near you that could go with you? I am a closet bandster, so I can totally relate that it is no one's business and you are capable of doing this alone. Best of luck and keep us posted. -
So, he recommends revision to RnY? It is so hard to say what I would do. If you decided to have the band because it is less invasive than RnY and you still feel that way, then have your band repositioned. If you are just anxious to get the pounds off, go for the RnY. Is your insurance going to cover it either way? I can say from my own experience that after they repositioned my band after my slip, it made a big difference. I think mine was in a bad spot and that is why I struggled in the first few months so much. I'm really sorry that your band journey has been a struggle. Just know the June Crew is behind your decision 100%. Hugs!

Depending on how bad it is, they may remove it. Then, they allow you to heal and possibly put a new band in. Luckily, for me, they were able to reposition mine and it wasn't removed. Did they remove your fill? Sometimes the band goes back into place by itself without the need for surgery. Best of health to you!
-
I had to be on liquids until my band was repositioned because I was unable to tolerate solids. Your doctor should instruct you on how to eat. I am sorry that you slipped. I remember I was quite devastated at the news when mine did. But, things have been great since-actually better than after the original surgery. So, I think they got it in a better spot. I had only lost 45 pounds when mine slipped, so I guess I disprove your 75 pound theory! Best of luck to you!

I'm with ya gals! 20 pounds to goal and AT GOAL IN 2008!

I assume you mean Dr. Ortiz? There are several threads on here discussing him. Do a search and that might help. PM me with any specific questions.

If you have vomited several times, stay on liquids! You are probably swollen and irritated. You most likely haven't slipped so close to sugery and since you have no fill, but definitely get into see your doc ASAP. Best of health!

I should have stopped walking and gone fishing, considering I should be eating fish 4 times a week. I totally thought of you Pinky and Cindy when I saw those bodybuggs on the biggest loser people! What great advertising for them! Work hard today people!

Miramar Reservoir | Water Department This is where I walked 5 miles tonight. I almost flaked out on my friend due to Aunt Flo, but I decided to stick it out and I'm glad I did! It was a nice walk and we saw a bunch of cute cops jogging the path! I'll be watching Biggest Loser tonight too! "AT GOAL IN 2008!!"

Have you tried meditation, deep breathing, etc.? Stress and anxiety can actually cause weight gain as many of us know. It doesn't really boost the metabolism. Also, exercise can help. I'm the worst one to give advice on that, but your body has to burn off the adrenaline and cortisol produced when we panic/stress. I have a walk planned this evening with a friend around a local lake, but then Aunt Flo showed up this morning, so I'm in pain! Has anyone had worse periods since banding? Mine are awful. I never had a problem with my periods until recently. Maybe I'm just getting older and its not band related. Hang in there Cathy. Glad you had fun in Cali Leece. Stay away from chocolate Cindy!(Or have a protein shake or a chocolate vitamin or a sugar free/fat free/caffeine free mocha or something and gradually the cravings should subside!)

You could easily take a couple trips with $50,000. Of course, it won't be that much after the IRS takes their share! Tonight's the night!
