This actually sounds good. If you are able to eat the food once chewed to mush, and you can drink water? It means that the band is actually working, and the placement is good. I would love to know who did your surgery.
As far as the morning tightness, that is normal with the band, and as another user addressed, there are many factors that could cause that, however, if you are losing weight, and happy, it seems to me that the band is adjusted perfectly. Watch out for the psychological factor, you take a sip of water, you may feel the restriction, you panic (just a little) and cause your muscles to tighten up and restrict even more.
