Help! After first fill questions...
ReadyOrNot posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, so I just went in for my first fill, he told me I had 1 cc in my band from surgery and he added another 3 cc's today. I took a sip of water at the office and all seemed fine, but I'm now back to work and every sip of water I take is followed by a strange gurgling sound and some pain, in the middle of my chest where the band is. It only lasts for a couple of minutes and then the water must be making it's way through the band I'm assuming, but is this normal?? Is it because it was just done an hour ago and needs time to settle? -
Am I right to be angry and frustrated?
ReadyOrNot replied to A New Woman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know how you feel as well, I was banded on the same day as you, 3/12/09, and am not getting my first fill until 4/24/09. I think that is funny because my surgeon didn't require the 2 week pre-op diet and his post op diet progresses faster than a lot of people that I have heard, so I don't know why he is so conservative in this one area. I too am feeling no restriction whatsoever at this point and relying on what little will-power I have to get through until my first fill, which is frustrating, but I'm going to try and hold on! Good luck to you! -
Anyone else have lower back pain since surgery???
ReadyOrNot replied to ReadyOrNot's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thanks! It is actually feeling a little better today, so perhaps it was a pulled muscle?!? Not sure, I'll definitely bring it up to the doctor when I go next week just to be sure though. -
1 week post op update
ReadyOrNot replied to lml32937's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great job on the weight loss! Congrats!! The ticker thing, if you click on the ticker itself, it will bring up a page that asks for your password, type that in and it will bring up all your information from before, that you can now change and re-save. -
How are all the March 09 Lucky Losers doing? Updates everyone!
ReadyOrNot replied to LifeStartsNow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm doing pretty good, down 23 pounds since my surgery on 3/12/09, haven't started excersizing yet but I did join a gym this week that'll I'll be starting next week so that's progress anyway! I don't feel any restriction at all right now, I have about 2 more weeks until my first fill, and am going on willpower alone right now, which if I had any I wouldn't be in this position in the first place right?! :tt2: But I'm trying to hold on, and do see myself making healthier choices now, which is nice, can't wait for a fill or 4 so I don't have to do it all by myself though!! -
Just got back from the seminar!

When does the Swelling to go down
ReadyOrNot replied to hannahj914's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have any gas pains after surgery, but I noticed a big improvement in the swelling around 2 1/2 weeks out. -
No restriction, yet there is hornking
ReadyOrNot replied to GoddessNar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every doctor is a lot different is what I'm finding, I was on 1 week of liquids (including cream Soup and pudding), then 1 week of mushies (including eggs, yogurt, soft cooked veggies), then 1 week of soft Proteins (tuna, canned chicken), then 1 week of more solid proteins, then back to a normal diet. I find it amazing how much this varies from doctor to doctor, I would think it would be pretty standard throughout but that is definitely not the case. I also didn't have to do the 2 week liquid diet before, not even the day before, just couldn't eat after midnight. Very strange! Not that I'm complaining though... -
Tomorrow is the day !!!!!!
ReadyOrNot replied to hopeful60's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was nervous too, but it really is an easy surgery, and the recovery after is minimal too, although I wasn't about to turn away the pampering! :glare: I didn't bring anything to the hospital with me, just wore slip on shoes and loose baggy clothing, the clothes I wore were the ones I ended up sleeping in that night because I was so groggy, so wear something comfy. Oh and I brought chapstick because I am lost without it! Good luck!! And congratulations!! -

Did you call your doctor about the vomiting? My doctor said to call immediately if I had any vomiting in the first few weeks. I hope it gets better for you soon!! -
I had my surgery on a Thursday and was back to work on Monday, I was pretty sore sitting up, couldn't find a comfortable position in my chair, and I was really tired by the end of the day, but it is possible.

2nd Thoughts on surgery
ReadyOrNot replied to Oceannites's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have dieted successfully, for a period of time, then gain it all back then some, for me the biggest appeal of the Lap Band was giving me the extra something I need to continue to keep the weight off and not go back to my old, unhealthy habits. I'm still new to the band, I've only been banded a little less than 4 weeks now, and I hope I feel the same way in a few years! -
Anyone had any Pancreas issues after banding??
ReadyOrNot replied to bandfun4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My mom has problems with her pancreas and from what she tells me it always starts with an awful pain right in the middle of her stomach area, right under her chest, and for her it's a pain that doesn't go away, it only gets worse until its treated, eating especially makes it worse for her. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that it's just a pulled muscle!! -
Ug! Not "shrink-o"ing fast enough
ReadyOrNot replied to Catherine55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had that problem too, I've only been banded 4 weeks now, but the amount of food I have been eating I would have expected the scale to keep moving drastically, but I got stuck for about a week at the same weight, give or take a half a pound. It was my TOM too, and the day that ended was the day I lost 5lbs in a day, so I'm sure that isn't helping your cause either! -
Hi, I almost to the mushy stage, wondering what kind of foods you ate during this time? The only things on the list from my doc are soft eggs and cottage cheese - did anyone try mashed potato or mac and cheese or is that too much for this stage?? Thanks for the help! Looking forward to scrambled eggs...

I'm on the mushy stage of my post-op diet, wondering if I can start slowly adding lettuce back into my diet?

Hi! I'm going in for my lap-band tomorrow and am wondering if anyone has any advice as to what I should bring with me to the hospital? I've read post that people are taking GasX after the surgery, is this something they give you or something you bought before hand?

What to bring to the hospital??
ReadyOrNot replied to ReadyOrNot's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got my call from the hospital with my surgery time, 1:15 tomorrow, the butterflies are starting to kick in! Thanks for the info! I'll be sure to wear comfy clothes and make sure I have my chapstick on me! :mad2: Button down shirt is a good thought too. I'll have to call my doctor and see about getting my prescriptions filled today too, another good idea. What do they give you for prescriptions? -
500 ? Personality Test ??
ReadyOrNot replied to hessekids's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to take a personality test, but it wasn't that long, took me less than a half hour to complete. It had a lot of questions about how good you are at following doctors instructions and addictive behaviors. -
Things I won't/don't miss about being Obese
ReadyOrNot replied to MissWilde's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going in for my lap-band tomorrow, and this post is reminding me of all the reasons that I signed up for it in the first place. I have been reading posts all week about noises the stomach makes after surgery, and foods I won't be able to eat, and thinking I don't know if I can live with that, but as I read this list it's amazing the things we live with now that I never thought I would live with, like being afraid to go on an airplane because you won't fit or not being able to ride roller coasters. The down-sides of this surgery are NOTHING compared to down-sides of daily life being obese. Thanks for the reminder! I know this list is going to be the same as a lot of others, but it feels good to actually write them down, say them out loud (and I can't wait to start crossing things off this list post op!!): - Being afraid of not fitting in an airplane seat, we actually spent a few hundred dollars upgrading our seats this last time to avoid this fear. - Being afraid of not fitting on roller coasters - I've been too embarassed to even try to ride them for a couple of years just in case I didn't fit - Booths at restaurants are getting snugger and snugger - Thighs rubbing together - Not wearing shorts - Not wearing short sleeves because of my fat arms - Dreading running into people from the past - Fear of running into my husband's co-workers who I have never met because I don't want him to get teased at work for having a fat wife - Lane Bryant, it will be so nice to shop like a normal person again! - Not having the energy to play with my daughter like I would like - Secretly worrying about my daughters weight all the time - she is only 20 months and is not at all overweight, but I still secretly obsess about her eating habits because I never want her to have to go through life overweight. - Feeling like people look past you instead of at you - Having smaller boobs, I can't wait to get into a normal bra size - Not going to the doctors because I don't want to get on the scale - I look forward to being pregnant and actually looking pregnant - not just fatter - Swimming - I love to swim but will only do so when nobody else is around - so when its 90 degrees and everyone is in the pool, I'm in my capris and 3/4 lenght shirt saying maybe later, then when it's 50 degrees at night and everyone is inside, that's when I finally go in the pool - It'll be nice to wake up and not think about my weight, not have that on the top of my mind all the time - Pictures, I love taking pictures, have thousands of my daughter, but literally 4 or 5 with me in them, it'll be nice to have family pictures that I don't want to delete - Avoiding concerts or shows, or just being miserable at them because I am so crammed in the seat and am worried about what the people next to me are thinking - Not being able to cross my legs - Going through 2 razors just to shave my legs -
Attending a Seminar, then what?
ReadyOrNot replied to MissTeach123's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
No, I didn't have a prior weight history with my doctor and I didn't have any other weight related problems like high blood pressure or sleep apnea either, I don't know why they didn't require that for me if they do others, must be a different plan that I'm on or maybe it's the state I'm in, I'm in Maine, I don't know if that makes a difference or not. -
Calling All MARCH '09 Bandsters - We need a name!

I'm a fellow March Bandster, going in for surgery on 3/12/09, and can't wait!! -
Attending a Seminar, then what?
ReadyOrNot replied to MissTeach123's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
No, when the doctor asked what insurance I had and I told him Blue Cross, he said it'll be no problem then, and it wasn't. I didn't have to do the 6 month doctor supervised diet or anything like that. -
The previous post is right, it would be a great kick-start to weight loss! Good luck to you too!!
-
Interesting, they require that for the bypass surgery but not for lap-band in my area. Too late to change their minds now, I go for surgery in a couple of days!
