Band_Groupie: Don't worry, it will come off. I also gained this week
Lingling - I'm at 263.4 (up 3.4 from last week). It was a bad week, but the good news is that I have my pre-op orientation next Wednesday and will get my surgery date at that time. HOPEFULLY, I'm less than 2 weeks from surgery!!

I was on a diabetic diet 'til June '08 when I began type II diabetic. That was a real wake up call for me!! Was on 1000 mg of Metformin in am and 500 in PM. I gained weight and started periods after 12 months without.I stopped taking Metfomin a few days before surgery at my surgeon's request (I was banded 11/18)...haven't taken it since. My A1C has been 100 or less. I've had two tests since banding.
The only meds I'm on now is 20mg of Zocor but have a family history of high chlorestrol. I'm down 44.5 and exercise at least 5days a week.
My PCP told me once a diabetic, always a diabetic BUT I'll take being a med free diabetic any day!!
Good luck!
Congrats on your weight loss and getting rid of your diabetes meds! Metformin is some nasty crap, isn't it?? Twice a day, I take 1000 mg of it, and now I just think "Hopefully in a few weeks, I won't need this anymore!"
Thanks for the information and encouragement!

Sherri, I have a surgery date of May 15. I also hope and pray to be rid of my diabetes.I take actomet and glyburide. Seems like lapband is very helpful for diabetics. Lets keep our fingers crossed.BMooney, It will be so awesome if we can lose our meds too. I don't have my date yet - will get it on 4/29 when I have my pre-op orientation day - and am hoping it will be the first week of May.
Stay in touch and let me know how you're doing!

Just waiting on Friday's weights from Angie, Lulu, Contemplating (although I think she just got banded?) and WannaB.
Off for a night in a flash hotel with a friend of mine (no, sadly not that kind of friend) ha ha. So signing off till tomorrow xx
Lingling - I was still at 260 on Friday. Nothing gained, nothing lost. Sorry I didn't post earlier.
What is a flash hotel??

hi wanna - i make it:8oz 2% milk
1 teaspoon of Peanut Butter
1 teaspoon of SF Jello cheesecake pudding mix
1 spoon of vanilla soy Protein Powder
few ice cubes & mix - it's pretty filling & tasty
Thanks for the recipe. I'll definitely be trying this!
-
I weighed in this morning (it is Friday here already!) at 127.9kg or 281.4lb. Down 1.7lb or 800g from last week. Total running loss of 9.5kg or 20.9lb! Yay for me! Nearly 10kg in a month!!! If I can keep this up (which I won't be able to) I will be at goal in another five months. hahahah
Lingling, that is awesome - 20+ lbs in a month is wonderful! And you will keep it up because this has to feel so great, and it will motivate you to keep losing! Keep up the good work!!
-
Luluc: what brand is your Peanut Butter cheesecake Protein Drink? is it premixed or a powder? It sounds yummy!! Thanks.

Hi guysGreat going everyone
Here are the results from week one.
Please note that some of the calculations won't work as we don't have highest weights for everyone - these will impact every week's results for these people as we need a point of comparrison. People are away getting banded and for easter so I am sure they will come in due course!
The other reason some of the calcs aren't working this week is that we don't have a 4th of April weight for everyone - never fear! this will Iron out next week as most people have given this week's weight.
Ignore the funny calcs in red - its just an error because of above!
Overall so far
Hannah and JayTee kicked butt this week with 13 and 7lb loss respectively! Although if you look at everyone's loss as a % of their starting weight we are all doing really well!!
Hang in there we are on the road to healthy happy lives!!!
PS. Sorry not sure why the JPG is so tiny!!!!
I have uploaded a word doc to show the spreadsheet
Lingling, thanks so much for doing this! After reading this and seeing all in one place, how well everyone is doing, really makes me more motivated now!

had diabetes, four pills a day and four shots a day for almost two years...had the surgery on Dec 16th and haven't had any diabetes meds since then! not one little drop!! I actually made my doctor cry when she did my A1C and for the second time since surgery it came back totally normal!Good luck!
by the way - i also no longe rneed to take my high blood pressure meds...
I am down 30 pounds, approximately 8 inches, and two (almost three) pants sizes.
I feel great!
You all are so inspirational! I will be banded in early May and SOOOO hoping to get rid of my diabetes meds. I take 2000 mg dailly of metformin and 8mg of glimiperide. My last a1c was 8.0, so I have alot of work to do, but reading what you have experienced is very uplifting for me. Good job everyone!
-
Oh Andrea, they are so adorable! All dressed up in their Easter outfits! I hope you had a good day, too. HOw are you feeling? I know you had a rough couple of post-op days....hope you're feeling better!

good morning everyone! I am banded finally! I am doing well today I got banded April 9,2009 at 7 am got released at 11:30 am went shopping at sams club then to the library then to pick up my pain meds. Im not in too much pain mostly its really uncomfortable a little gas pain tho.Bonnie
Wow, Bonnie - that is amazing. It's so interesting how different everyone is, and the length of time that doctors require a patient to stay. Mine requires a one-night stayover, just to keep a watch.
Several years ago, I had a laporoscopic surgery to remove ovarian cysts, and I had surgery at 7:30, woke up at 9:30, was home by 11:30 and washing clothes! Over the next 3 days, I was mostly just tired, but don't remember any complications. I had surgery on Thursday and was back to work on Monday. I hope it all goes that well this time....
-
Of course you can join!!Whats your 10th of April weight though!! x
Can I use 260 as my current weight? I don't own a scale, but I will get one tomorrow.
-
Initial consult - 273Today I weighed 259.5
I havent done too well weight wise the past 2 weeks because my father passed and I wasnt sure if I would still get banded. But I am now back on the band wagon and looking forward to this journey again!
MrsMitch, I'm so sorry for your loss. Hang in there, we're here for you.

Hi Guys,
Is it okay if I join the Friday weigh-ins? Even though I'm no longer an April Hopeful? If so, here are my stats:
Highest (2/12/09) - 266
Surg Consult (4/6/09) - 260
Thanks for doing this, Lingling! Everyone have a great Easter weekend!
-
You can be an honorary Bunny Bandster!!! We should make a special section Pharmagirl!!Lingling, Thank you! That is very sweet! If only my surgeon hadn't had the nerve to take a darn vacation, I might have made April...LOL...Just kidding...
Anyway, best wishes to the rest of this week's bunnies...I'll be thinking about you!

So I decided that they all thought I was having a boob job and thought I'd wear a pair of oranges in my bra my first day back and see what their reaction was - what do you think?
Mommad, I love your idea. I've only told a few people at work what I'm doing, and I'm sure the rest will be wondering, so I figured when they start asking why I'm going to be out, I'm just going to tell them I'm having a sex-change operation, or something equally outrageous. :tt2:
-
Hello All,
I haven't been banded yet, but will be in a few weeks. This is kind of embarrassing to ask, but am wondering ABOUT how long after surgery that I might feel well enough to re-introduce sex to my exercise regiman?
Thanks for any insight you can give.
-
Mimi! Why so long? are you having other operations done too?You guys with sleep Apnoea shouldn't take it so lightly! I work for a life insurance company, and sleep apnoea without a CPAP is DECLINE! (yes your chance of death without the mask is too high to quantify!)
The reason it causes death is that it alters the chemicals in your blood provided to you by oxygen and therefore increases the risk of normal heart attack see here: http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/sleep-apnea/news/20050323/sleep-apnea-makes-wee-hours-sudden-death-time
But also when the oxygen levels get so low (less than 80%) the right ventricle in the heart cannot pump in normal rhythm and goes into Ventricular Tachycardia with no warning and you are just dead.
Annoying but lifesaving!
I have a couple of friends that use the CPAP, and they won't go anywhere without it. They both told me that they didn't realize how disrupted their sleep was before, until they started using it. Now, they get great sleep and feel well-rested in the morning. Never know, you might love it!

Well I came home today. The drugs have basically kicked my butt and the thought of food repluses me. I'm sore, but not too much gas pain. I have tried to get up and get walking. I hope this nausea feeling goes away soon. It's pretty nasty!Yay, Andrea!! I'm so glad to see you back online. I have been thinking about you and hoping that all went well. Get lots of rest and I"m sure you'll feel better in a day or two...then you can get online and tell us all about it! Congrats.
-
Well, I got great news today....and I got not so great news today. The good news is that my insurance company approved me for surgery!! It only took 48 hours after they received the last paperwork on Monday.
The bad news is that I won't be banded in April.... The WL Institute that I am going to doesn't schedule you until you go to the day-long pre-op orientation, and they only hold 2-3 a month. The next one is on the 15th, but it is full, so I have to wait till the 29th. Chances are very good that I'll get scheduled for the first week of May, but this means that I'm not a Bunny Bandster...:tt2: So, I hope you all don't mind if I continue to hang with you anyway... and I'll change my Bunny Banner.
PharmaGirl, can you remove me from the "April Hopeful" list? Thanks.
-
Well I had my first glass of wine! Great!!!! Didnt get as tipsy as I thought! Just been to a pub quiz and sat around people having steaks, burgers, wontons etc - so jealous - but ordered a plate of pumpkin mash with gravy - filled the hole!!!How's everyone else doing?
LOL...Lingling, you are so funny!! I'm happy to hear that you've jumped back into a normal routine and are enjoying yourself! I keep reminding myself that food does not need to be the focal point of our lives....we don't need it to have fun. As long as we can have a glass of wine!!
You all are such an inspiration....thank you for being here! Have a great day!

BG, thanks so much for the info you found on the liver shrinking. I don't have a pre op diet either and have been worrying about my liver. I mean, hey, we ARE in the minority here...almost everyone has a preop diet!!lol I have been trying to do my own version of a preop diet, thinking that it will help. Low carbs and Protein Shakes, but eating dinner once in a while as long as it is Protein and veggies.I just have to trust my surgeon and know that she has done tons of these surgeries and knows what will or will not make it easier. Did your doc elaborate on why they don't require a preop diet?
Well, I FINALLY met with my surgeon yesterday, and everything went really well! He said I am a perfect candidate, and he didn't order any further tests, and no liquid diet. I feel kinda "left out" not having to do the 2 week diet, but I think I'll do it for a week on my own, just to be on the safe side. I've been watching what I eat more anyway, and lost 6 lbs since my appt in February.
My nurse/coordinator submitted my final paperwork to the insurance company yesterday also, so now I wait....to be approved!!!
Does anyone have Empire BlueCross BlueShield insurance? that is what I have.....wonder how long I'll have to wait??
I hope surgery went well today for the April 7th bunnies, and best wishes to all the remaining for this week!

So I just found out my surgeon's office submitted for ins approval this past Tuesday... I'm hoping that since I've been obese for so long and did the 6 mo diet and all that jazz, that I'll get approved no problem. Please keep your fingers crossed for me! And I'm still hoping for a date in April, all I have left are a few pre-op tests and the pre-op liquid diet and I can do those no prob, right???Weird part is that I totally dreamed about recovering from surgery last night. In my dream I was sleeping and then woke up and had to walk around the nurse's station (what my surgeon requires while I'm in the hospital).
Holy crap it's almost real now!
Kellster: I will keep my fingers crossed for you. I am in the same boat - "April Hopeful". Today, I met with the surgeon, and he said I was a perfect candidate. I don't require any more testing, etc. So, my nurse coordinator will submit this final certification to my ins company (Empire BCBS) and I wait.....! I am still holding out hope for an April Banding - for both of us!

KCMAGU: Your roasted red pepper and garden broccoli Soups sound really good. I am about a week away from surgery and am trying to gather as many recipes as I can for the liquid and mushy stages. Would you be willing to share your recipes? Or, if they are already posted somewhere on LBT, let me know and I'll search for them.
Thanks!
