LivinWithFaith/KY posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Everyone, I am self pay. I am looking for a doctor in Mexico, basically because I cannot afford to have in done here in the U.S. Could someone please recommend a doctor and tell me about your experience? All Replies Are Deeply Appreciated!! LivinWithFaith/KY p.s. Will U.S. doctors accept you as a patient once you get back in the U.S. and complete your fills and check-ups? Thanks:thumbup: -
If I have a 4 cc band, is it as good as larger bands?
LivinWithFaith/KY replied to shayb's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for the input! After you get your fills, does your doctor tell you to stay on liquids for 2 days, then soft food ,etc..? So the band will stretch....that does not sound good! Because i do not want it to stretch so I can eat more, I am hoping to get to a point where I CAN only eat a few bites. i am not there yet. thanks again and keep up the good work:smile: livinwithfaith/ky -

Can anyone please help me? I was banded 4/9/09 and I weighed 220. I am 5'4. I got my first fill the end of May 1cc, June .5cc, July .5cc and my current weight is 206. I feel like I am doing something wrong or something. The weight is coming off so slow. Even after having 3 fills, I still do NOT get full that quick. IS this Normal? I cannot really exercise because I have fibromyalgai (muscle/joint pain) and also have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). The PCOS makes me insulin resistant, so I think that is part of the problem. I WELCOME any comments about how I could get better on track! Thanks for ANY COMMENTS!!!!! LivinWithFaith/KY -

I got quotes from 3 different doctors in my area. I had no trouble what so ever finding someone to do my fills. I found a doctor in Louisville, Ky, that does all the fills I need the 1st year for $700...after that I think the fills will be around $200. I don't expect to need that many fills after the first year. Also, there are fill centers all over the US, who will do your fills, but it was cheaper for me to go to a local doctor. Everyone told me before my surgery that no doctors in the US would see me due to liability, but that has definitely not been the case. Hope this helps and good luck! I do not think I would consider surgery in Tijuana with the Swine Flu, but I feel like Cancun was safe and very effective!! LivinWithFaith/KY:smile: -

LivinWithFaith/KY replied to shayb's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello, I am hoping to get some insight on my progress. I started out at 220lbs in April 2009. My first fill of 1cc in my 4cc band was at the end of May. Since my first fill I have had 2 more fills with .5 cc each time. I am currently done to 205.8.lbs. I get my fills, but I am still not feeling a great restriction. Some people say they take one bite of something and they are full. I could easily take 10-15 bites before I start to feel satisfied. What is the Deal? One problem is that I can't really exercise because I have fibromyalgia which makes my muscles hurt and spasm up with much activity. Thank so much for any INPUT on my SITUATION!!!! I was banded in April in Cancun by dr. verboonen. I have had no complications what so ever. I had my first fill near the end of May. I have only lost 15 lbs, so I am somewhat disappointed, but that may be because I do only need to lose about 80 lbs. Just keeping on , keeping on and not losing faith! LivinWithFaith/KY -

Hello gamassagegirl: Good to hear from you! I have been real busy with college work. I would love to talk to people more, but I lead a pretty busy life. I will try to check in every 3 days or so and see how everyone is doing. Talk about shoulder pain, about 3 days ago, I thought I was going to die, it hurt so bad. The pain medicine helped me make it through. Hopefully, that is the end of that:) I have lost 9 lbs in 7 days!!! Isn't it great to hear about everyone's continued success, IT is so MOTIVATING!!! Keep in Touch and Congratulation on Your SUCCESS!!! LivinWithFaith/KY:thumbup: -

Hello Amceache, I was banded on the 9th, I too experienced horrible hunger pains. Anytime you need someone to talk to about your new adventure weight loss journey, I am here. Please do not hesitate to email me. keesee@windstream.net Like you, I think it is nice to know others understand how you are feeling. I had my surgery done in Mexico, because I could not afford to self pay here in the US. I have started a few solids, going by the sheet the doctor gave me, and it is much better now beginning the 2nd week. Just hang in there and do exactly what your doctor says, so you will not have problems later, and your tummy can heal quicker. Wish You The Best, LivinWithFaith/KY -
Good Luck on your surgery! You can find alot of useful information on this web site about what to expect preop and Post op. Wish You the BEST!! LivinWithFaith/KY I was banded April 9,2009. Let me tell you the surgery was a breeze but the liquid diet has really been the hardest part for me, plus you can expect to be really sore around your port. Do not be discouraged though, because in a few months we are ALL going to be LOOKIN" GOOD. lol BEST WISHES:thumbup:

LivinWithFaith/KY replied to Persona363's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Persona, I had my surgery done in Cancun Mexico by Dr verboonen last Thursday. I am not a sit still person, once I got out of the hospital. Probably 2 hours later my husband and I walked about 1/2 mile to the nearest mile to get gifts for the return trip home on Saturday. After we left the mall, we got a cab to the flea market for about 3 hours...maybe I need to slow down a little HUM. That probably did help me some with soreness though. I am still sore when I get up. Now I am back home and back to college today. I am taking science classes directled toward nursing. I have lost 5lbs so far. I think my BMI was 37.5 at the time of my surgery. I am looking forward to seeing the NEW me. I have always fought with my weight. When I was in my twenties I think I weighed 128 for 2 Days. ha, ha I have always struggled. And like most people once I got married, my New Couch Potato and I got comfortable. Too comfortable HUH? LOL Good Luck on your JOURNEY too!!! It is so nice to talk to other people who are dealing with the same struggles. LIVIN':smile2: -

I had a TERRIBLE IV experience too, but not NEARLY as bad as yours. The IV the nurse used was the size of a ball point pen. I could not believe it. I have never seen a IV needle that big in all my life. I have had several IV's before, but believe me....Not like this one. I guess what they say is TRUE, NO PAIN, NO GAIN just kidding No really, I am sorry you had a bad experience!! You are doing GREAT...YEAH......7 1/2 lbs. that's good, you should be proud!!! I think I have lost about 5 lbs, since Thursday evening, but DEAR LORD ...I should be losing weight I feel like I am starving to death. Maybe I need to drink more Water. Keep up the GOOD WORK GUYS!!!!! -

Hello, I was banded on on 4/9 and every since the first day I feel like my stomach is trying to eat through my spine. I do not understand. I thought after I got the band that I wouldn't be as hungry. Even if I drink some chicken broth within an hour, I am back to the starvation again. Nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any ideas to help solve this? It is really horrible feeling your stomach drawing and growling 24/7. As far as the pain around the port, I have alot of pain there too. On the left side about 2 inches from my belly button. I think this is normal, after all we all really did have a major surgery. I am kind of confused about what to eat. I had my surgery done in Mexico, and the doctor told me to use a straw to avoid taking big gulps (the opposite of what I have heard on here) I was also told to drink GATORADE, a friend said I could no LONGER drink this. Can a few people tell me how you are dealing with hunger? And what YOUR DOCTOR told you that you could eat. The hunger sucks, but I know that one day I can take off my fat suit. ha, ha I DID IT......AND I KNOW IT WILL BE WORTH IT IN THE END!!! I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE ALL OF OUR BEFORE/AFTER PICTURES IN A FEW MONTHS. LivinWithFaith/KY -
Port location and Pain
LivinWithFaith/KY replied to Persona363's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the pain is pretty much normal. I had my surgery done last Thursday and let me tell you, it is uncomfortable. I can tell it is located on the left side about 2-3 inches from my belly button. The first day after surgery I walked alot. I think moving a little will help ease the pain. I know if I sit in one spot very long and then move, the pain is alot worse. Hope you feel better soon. Oh, how are you doing with the liquid diet? I feel like I am constantly starving. My stomach feels like it is trying to naugh on my backbone. Not very pleasant. I had my surgery done in Mexico. So I am sure every doctor performs their surgeries a little different. Good Luck LivinWithFaith/KY -
Pureed foods...Pass them up?
LivinWithFaith/KY replied to Winkiespleen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the input! Today was really hard especially at our family Easter dinner, but I pulled through. I did not think it would be this hard though. I thought the band would help keep me from getting hungry. I drink clear broth and 2 hours later I am starving again. I am just going to have to learn how to cope with this. Thanks so much for your help, LivinWithFaith/KY -
April Bandsters?
LivinWithFaith/KY replied to hopeful41411's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery 3 days ago. The liquid diet is killing me. I never was a huge eater, just ate the wrong things. Anyway, now that I haven't had anything since Wednesday night I am starving. The doctor said he put .5 ml in my band at time of surgery. I had my surgery done in Cancun, Mexico due to self'pay. Could you please tell me how you are dealing with the liquid diet? thanks LivinWithFaith/KY:mellow: -
