You should make an appt. with a Dr. and see what advice they can give you. I thought about having the band for the past 5 years and just had it done last week. I have private insurance so I'm not sure the difference between the two insurances. I know the feeling about not wanting to gain anymore weight...It is such a struggle and I think that even with the band on I will struggle for the rest of my life. That is why I like this support group there is a lot of good people on here and everybody has good advice. Take care!

i need help with low carb meals

Hello~ Have you ever tried eating Tuna fish mixed with a little mayo, seasoning and celery, onions, peppers, green olives etc. you can mix it up and put it in a container or wrap it in a lettuce leaf. It is very high in Protein and very Yummy. Also shrimp in low fat and high protein, my friend had the banding done about 5 years ago and those two things have become her staple. The bags of shrimp usually are about $10-20 per bag but you can get a lot of meals out of one bag. I think the key is being prepared and always trying to have something on hand at all times. I was just banded a week ago today so I'm still on liquids. Hope this helps. Good luck to you  -
It sounds like you would be a candidate for weight loss surgery, but how long would the waiting list be for nhs? When I was going through the process my insurance required a 3month physician assisted weight loss so my doctor prescribed phentermine. It is an appetite suppressant I took a 1/2 tablet 2xday and it worked well. It also gave me that extra energy that I needed to do some excersise. I didn't have any negative side effects with it. I just had that lap band done 3/2/09, I have my follow up today so I will be curious to see if I have lost any more weight. My BMI when I started was 40 and that is a requirement for the surgery. Where do you live in the UK? I used to live in Newmarket.

So far so good for me. I follow up with the Dr. today. Going under for me was ok, they just gave me something in my IV and I woke up when it was all done. My throat was irritated from the tube and I wasn't allowed to drink anything till the next day, but it was ok.

Hello I am new to this forum..I have never done any networking like this before so please bear with me. I recently had lap banding done 3/2/09. I would like to meet people who also had this procedure done. So far so good, just wondering if anybody has any suggestions on what to eat. My physician has me on mechanical liquids, I have been eating jello, broth, diluted cream soups, slim fast, and protein shakes. Just wondering if anybody has any other ideas. Thanks

How do you get one of the weight loss tickers?

When I first came out of surgery I had very little incisional pain. Most of my pain was left shoulder pain and gas pain. My physician had prescribed a morphine PCA which seemed to work really well but I slept for a 4hour stretch and didn't push the button. I woke up in excruciating pain!! I was able to get it under control fairly easily though. I ended up staying just 1 night in the hospital and then I was discharged with Lortab elixir, it tastes horrible but works great! I am still taking it morning and night but not at all throughout the day. As far as activity I was up walking the halls @ the hospital about 4hours after surgery. The more you walk the better you will feel. It doesn't always feel the greatest getting in and out of bed but once you are up you feel good. Plus it also helps to move that extra gas out. The trick that I found that worked the best for me getting in and out of bed was right before your going to stand take a deep breathe, when you are going to stand let that breathe out, trust me it works really good on minimizing the pain. I hope this has been helpful...Good luck to all of you! By the way I was extremley nervous prior to having the surgery too, but I couldn't be happier and as of now I don't have any regrets.
