Sorry LBT, HP usually handles that question and she's away in Florida. Road bikes are built for paved surfaces and to go quickly. They have skinny tires which contact less road and make it easier to propel your bike forward. Mountain bikes are built for textured roads and to withstand shocks from jumps etc. They are built to be abused with thick tires that grab the road more. They take more effort to propel forward. A hybrid is marrying the two. Hybrids are more mountain than road. They have not as thick tires, but they are thick and they sit upright. Comfort bikes are newer on the market and also marry the two ideas but are more road than mountain. Typically they have the tires of a road and the handlebars of a mountain. There are companies like Trek, Giant, Jamis, Specialized out there who make all four kinds. Road bikes tend to cost more too. My word of advice, if you think you'll not ever really ride off road get a comfort bike or an entry level road bike. Most people who do not tend to regret "under buying" their first bike. Hope that Helps. Sorry to leave you hanging.

That is a stunning result. 6 lbs, way to go!!!!!!!!!!! I got back on the stick today. No sugar, no "not growing food" as we call it for Zoe. I'm logging on Fitday what I ate. I worked out like someone who doesn't want to quit losing. All in all, a good day.

I'm gonna let HP tell you all about bikes. She's bought them all and is actively still riding. I feel a little like a poser posting on here. But this is home so I'm not leaving. And I'll get back on the bike again, promise. D, don't tell the bikers but I believe deep in my heart running is the key to getting to goal and beyond it. If you look at the goal chicas on this board, they run. And girl, call it running. I run at work, we have a paved road that circles the building complex. One coworker told me she saw me out there "walking" I told her, "I might be slow, but I call it running." I pick my feet up like a runner! Well sorta. You're inspiring as always. BG, I looked up LAMP on youtube. Funny as hell. I loved that movie. I'm sure you're not surprised. ZZZZZ, I see you lurking. You had better post!

Does it mean something? What is LAMP?

D, you go girl. Jogging! I'm so proud. Thanks for the party on the page. Very nice. HP, nice avatar change. You look great. I think BG needs to update her pic. It's been a while.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. The dress was amazing. It was on sale, it fit perfectly, it was a 14 petite. Did I tell you I can wear petites? I'm making my own self laugh. SUB, that would be you Strikeuptheband, I love that you are getting interested/psyched to ride the Katy Trail. We all found different ways to spark our interest in riding, and that seems like a good one. HP, enjoy Florida. You're going to have a great time.

Silly question. Why do you gag so much? I mean I did a million years ago when I was on the pill, but I don't gag when I brush my tongue anymore. But to answer your question, are you bringing up stomach acid? I'm guessing you should be okay. But I'd ask your doctor just to be sure. I use a straw regularly. I also chew gum, but I never swallow the gym. I never did before...if you are an accidental gum swallower I'd avoid it. I guess I'm not much help........ :biggrin2:

I cheated....now what?
OH Juli replied to kgranite79's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll be fine. Do liquids for the next two days as instructed. You'll have surgery soon and this will be a distant memory before you know it. Good luck with your surgery! You're nearly there! -
Ditto what other said, there's someone to see you. Call ASAP. November is too long to wait.
-
Kathy, Please accept my sympathies for you and your mother. I know these next days, weeks and months will be challenging for you both. Please come here and ask for any support you think we might be able to offer. You are in my thoughts. Juli

here are some pics friends. I did it. I graduated.

Doll Face, Gams equal legs, and typically hot ones. I was reading a book set at the end of WWII. Must have been where it came from. My point is that with your height and your tough workout you're gonna have great looking legs. D, I forgot to say WOOOOHOOOO for running. When I first I was so proud. I don't care if it's a run across the street. It's running!!!!! There was a time that I wouldn't/couldn't run if a car was going to hit me. I'd been resigned to getting plowed over. You'll be running miles before you know it. Way to Go!!!

I know that pain. Think about how rock hard those quads are going to be! You'll have gams for days.... (Who says gams anyway?) 2B, Thanks for pomp. I'm off to buy a dress for graduation today. I tried yesterday and couldn't find anything. I'm also looking for a conference I'm attending in a few weeks. This being a different size and actually caring about how clothes fit is a pain in the butt! I'm a 16P. Petite. Me. I shop in the petite section....16 is bigger than most places carry, but some do...petite. I want to tell everyone. Well that, and I were some 14s too. Does it sound like I'm bragging? No, just happy and proud.

Rosi, I can share with you what I've learned about the skin...mind you I've lost 130ish since being banded but I'm closer I'm over -160 from my highest weight. My point is my skin is LOOSE, it's baggy, it moves independantly from my skeleton, muscles, etc. So what to do? How can a girl frame that in a positive way??? Well it's success. I'm actually losing weight, I'm moving toward my goal. It is par for the weight loss course. Expecting tight skin on a once fat body without plastic surgery is just silly. So look at as success. You are on your way to that beautiful body, but more importantly, you are healthier with the weight off and how you look is secondary. Hope that helps. J

Well, that took for freaking ever! Catching up on all the missed posts is what I'm talking about. You all have been busy! Disney was amazing. Zoe and I just loved the princesses! It was a very nice 5 days! The Animal Kingdom Lodge where we stayed was fantastic, we had animals out the windows. I've not exercised in far too long. I'm going to make myself go to the gym tomorrow morning...I haven't even got on my bike in FOREVER. This weekend it's not going to happen either. My niece gets married on Saturday and I graduate on Sunday. I picked up my cap and gown today!!!! Also I picked up my books for my class that start on Monday! Isn't that crazy?!? D, hope you gall bladder is better. HP, now how long are you going to be gone? A full 6 weeks? What's the family going to do with out you? KY, We'd love to have you in Chicagoland with us. BG, lifting weights? That's my girl! You'll have to give me details so we can compare notes. Who's, I wanna see your bike too. Just find a pick of it from someone selling one on line! I like to tell people what to do. I love the 18 pound challenge. You all rock!

Jeni Disney World in FL. Full time school and work may not be fun, but you're a smart cookie, you'll do very well. Janine First of all thanks for keeping it real for us. Sometimes it takes hearing one say, "appreciate what you have" particularly from someone who has had it and lost it. It's a good message. As for your question of which group should you belong to. Well certainly hook up with the newbies but only if you promise never to leave us. Once a Marchie always a Marchie. I think the more you share your experiences the better the entire community will be. So if you have it in you to keep a foot in both places, please do. And yeah, I'm writing like it's a foregone conclusion that you're going to be banded. You know you will! Peace.

The Century is September 28 The 10K is the next weekend. Football = endless snacking and beer drinking and not much else as far as I know.
-
Zoe goes on the 20th. So BG, what is this strange thing they call football? I just don't have a clue. BTW, there is no way I'll be ready to run a 10K or ride a century by the end of September. Just sayin.
-
Get some rest Jeni! Don't over do it. Good to see you're up and about though. Almost done with school for a summer. I get a week off. We are going to Disney on Saturday. I'm so excited, I think even more than my six year old. I've never been! Have a good week everyone!

D, If I can spend too much time on here and get my learnin' in you can too! Really this finance class burnt me out. My team is cleaning up a paper we thought was pretty nicely done, but alas the prof sent the draft back asking for changes. Ugh. I'm in school (for the newbies) in an undergrad/MBA combo program. I get my BS on the 17th -like in 9 days!-with honors! I have been taking graduate classes since January of 08, they fulfill undergrad obligations and go toward the MBA so it shaves time. Anyway, I'll have the masters finished at the end of March. Yeah baby. Then I'm going watch TV for 5000 hours. I miss TV. I'm going to sit on my butt and watch every episode of every show I've missed. Reruns too. I can't wait.

Well Lima Beans although they are delicious have SKINS that kill me nearly always. Peas can choke me up for the same reason. There's a story Zoe reads called, A Bad Case Of Stripes it starts with "Camilla Cream loved lima beans, but she didn't want anyone to know...." D, girl you need to get back to school. You're going crazy. When do you start back?
-
I don't track my anything right now. I've used sparkpeople, fitday and bodybugg. fitday is by far my fav.

The take away lesson one could glean from the above posts is 1. Everyone is different 2. Comparisons don't help you succeed, they just frustrate you. 3. Look at factors you can control in your situation to create better outcomes. Good Luck. Being frustrated is annoying. Look for solutions and you'll feel like you are at least swimming in the right direction. Peace,
