3. Wow, how fantastic you look! I'm going to follow your example and work my butt off too. And it is so generous of you to share your experiences with all of us. Thanks for the inspiration. Juli in Ohio

Marchies In April

I was tired too at that point. Even the third week I was needing to nap many nights after work. It will get better, promise. Juli in OH

Marchies In April

I was talking with someone today, saying that I feel so much more in control of food now. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I don't have restriction yet, no fills, but I don’t want to eat everything in sight. Heck, I don't always want to eat everything on my plate. (But there are monthly times that doesn't apply, but still common sense prevails.) I heard it would be like this, but I never really believed it or that it would happen with out restriction. Who knew? Juli

Marchies In April

I've been a member of LBT since I started looking into the band....I laid low for months while I went through the very long process of getting banded...14 mos. But I was banded March 8th! I don't get a fill until May 8th. Needless to say my appetite is normal and I feel little restriction. I'm doing good at using my will power to not over eat, but I can't wait for the fill. Nice to see the group or Marchies or Marchers... Happy to be in your company. Juli from Ohio

Tips for a new runner?

Dawn, Thanks for the encouragement! You rock! Look at your stats and training for a 1/2 marathon! Amazing. I did it. I work out during my lunch hour and today I walked 90 seconds and ran 30. I did that 10 times so for a total of 20 minutes. I'm so proud of me. When I was done with that I did 20 minutes on the elypticial trainer too. Yeah! Oh, can someone tell me how to get rid of "pre bander" under my name? I'm a banded now. Juli

Tips for a new runner?

It's official. I want to run. I've wanted to run. I've said a million times when I hit x number in weight I will start. But no more. Today I will follow the Shape schedule and run 30 seconds/walk 90 ten times. I've been working out on the elpytical, 30 minutes, intensly for a few months. Thanks for the inspiration! Juli in OH
11. I have to say yesterday's meal went well enough. I certainly ate things I've kept away from, a bite or two of simple carbs, but I at less than half the quantity of food that I normally would have. And I am yet to be restricted. I was banded 3-8-07. Juli in OH
12. Hello everyone. I was banded on March 8th here in Columbus. My doctor has me on mushies already which is a god send. I'm off work until the 27th which makes me happy too. All in all the first few days were HARD, but I'm getting better with each day. Juli
13. Debbie, Thanks...OSU really only got my chart in December. They've been putting me through their paces as quickly as possible. I started at Barix in Groveport, in January 2006. My insurance required 6 mos. of doctor supervised weight loss. I did that from March to September. It took Barix a month to get the info to my insurance, it took my insurance a month to approve me. Which they did in November, but the surgeon from Barix was no longer in network!!!! I don't have it to self pay, so I switched to OSU. And here I am. Whew! Juli
14. I registered with this sight forever ago...I started the process in January 2006 and today a full year and some later I got a date. March 8th I will be banded at the Ohio State University Medical Center. It has been a very long time coming. I'm 38, a single mom with a five year old daughter, work full-time, go to school full-time, and date someone who lives in Michigan. Life is busy. I met Mindful in the flesh not too long ago. We need to meet again! Juligirl

New from Cincinnati area

I was born in Cincinnati, but I'm in COLUMBUS proper, just a few minutes from the campus of the Ohio State University now. I was going to have my lab band done at Barix Clinic in Groveport but my insurance doesn't cover the surgeon. (I was approved for the surgery but not with that doctor if I want more than 60% coverage.) I'm now looking at getting it done at the University Medical Center. Probably a better choice over all. Great to see so many Ohioans on the board. Juli
17. Wow- I've enjoyed reading all the above posts. I've been working through the 6 months of doctor supervised dieting so to be able to get insurance approval. That will be done just after labor day. Have I lost weight? Naw, not so much. But has the time allowed me to strengthen my commitment to getting the band? Absolutely. I'm still a few months away from getting worried or scared. I do think about the implications of how the band will affect change in my life...I'm ready. I'm ready to embrace a whole new attitude toward my body and my health. Thanks so much for the this thread.

"I don't know much about Gastric Bypass, but how do you gain weight after that?" With the by-pass you lose a lot of weight though malabsorbtion(sp?). You only have a limited amount of time 18-24 months before your body develops a way to absorb the content of what you're eating. If you don't adjust what you put into your body during that window of time you'll regain when your body starts absorbing the calories. Bandsters can eat around their bands and not lose weight, if bypassers don't change how they eat, they will gain too. (Eventually)

What does everyone do for a living?

I'm a full-time food service manager for the state Deaf school. I've worked in restuarants and bakeries-managing and cooking. At the same time I'm in school full-time getting my degree in business management so as to get the hell out of the kitchen. I should still be working in food, but I hope on the manufacturing or selling end of things. Not in production where it gets served and stuffed into the mouths. I'm also a single momma to a 4 year old little girl. Getting back to school is long over due-nothing like wanting to provide a better life for my child to motivate me!
21. You don't have it set up on carpet do you? If so move it to hard flooring and try again. If it's still inconsistant TAKE IT BACK! You DH doesn't need to understand, just support. My digital scale doen't vary like that.

Thirtysomething's

Hi all. I live in Columbus, Ohio. I turned 38 in April and will get my band this fall. Currently I'm doing a 6 month doctor supervised diet for insurance purposes. I'm single with a little girl who will be 5 in September. She is my pride and joy! I work as a cafeteria manager. But I'm back in school full-time so I can get out of the kitchen. I used to work in restaurants as a manager and/or chef...so as you can see food is my life...I know I'll continue in the industry, I can't walk away from 20 years of experience, I just don't want to be on the serving end where it's so easy to eat! Holla back! Juli

Why are YOU Fat?

Why am I fat? Oh, the stories...like so many of you, there was abuse and neglect. I thought I was huge because I had a sister who was slightly built and I was regular. Food is an institution to me. I know more about how and where and why we eat than anyone else I know. FoodTV was created for me. I could have written the programming when it first hit the air 10 years ago. More interestingly, in my quest for the band and getting my head shrunk a few times a month I've gotten over my depression that I would have to give up my history of all things food. Certainly my relationship with food will change, but even if I tried I couldn't forget the trivia I've learned or the consideration of the social impact food has on humans...and with the band I don't need to. It made me very sad thinking that it would all come to an end. Anyway, thanks all for sharing.
24. I'm pre-band. I am in the middle of 6 months of doctor supervised dieting before insurance will pay for the band. I'll be done with that in September. I'm hoping to be banded by Thanksgiving. I'm looking to educate myself while I wait. I'm a single mom with a soon to be 5 year old girl. I work full-time and in school full-time. Thanks for the warm welcome! Juli

Breasts (women only)

I had a reduction 4 years ago. The nipples are fine. They work as intended. I'm happy. The sides of my breasts are numb, but still itchy at times. I know the nerves are still growing back. As for scars I have to say I'm happy, my aren't raised or very differently colored, but yeah, I do call myself "Frankentitty" at times. The idea of more plastic surgery after the band weight loss is comforting, cuz the belly needs to go, but I'm not looking forward the recovery.
