    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Hey Banannie Yeah, this thread is so much more active. Welcome. Sounds like your new bike is super drooly. My entry level bike will do me well this year and next, but I see a new bike happening in 2009, and it's going to cost about $2009 too, I'm sure! Howdy!

You might want to try Dr. Shumacher sp? in Kettering. I know of Viglianco at Barix in Groveport and then I had Mikami at The Ohio State University. HTH

    It's All About Balance

I really love that. I have a 5 year old, and I'm really trying to teach her about fueling her body so she can do the things she wants to do. It's hard with all the crap directed at childrent, but I'm making progress. Both of her parents are heavy, and she's said, "I want to be a fat, like you two so I fit with this family." :omg: I told her she can't be the fastest runner or get on roller coasters so she changed her mind, but YIKES! I really wish it was a lesson my parents taught me. Alas.

You can take it to a bike shop and see if they can help you out too. Really, many people buy bikes at the big box stores and then take them to bike shops to get them fine tuned. Good lucky.

Okay, I could write a book. About shifting gears I'm trying to really learn that as well. To go long distances, I was told, the goal is to control your cadence, so that you are always peddling, but not killing yourself by using too much effort or be too jerky by not having enough resistence. It's something to work on, but it makes sense. Also another tip: make sure you are drinking plenty of water while you ride. Practice drinking and riding at the same time. The hilly 100 sounds like a blast. I'm falling in love with hills. Crazy but true, but going 35 mph downhill on a bike kind of set the hook! I like the challenge of going up too!

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

I know you asked JC, but I'm going to give you my opinion. Your leg should be nearly fully extended when you push down, with just a slight bend (very very slight, so as not to lock your knee or hyper extend it.) You should have a slight bend in your elbows when you are seated and grabbing the handle bars. Did you get your bike at a bike shop? If so they should be fitting your bike to your body. HTH. Julianna Christine. I'm a JC too. (My last name is starts with C as well)

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Hey my cycling buddies. I'm heading up to Michigan tomorrow. We are planning on riding Friday, Saturday and Sunday. My poor girlfriend, I'm really pushing her limits. I was like, "Let's do 100 miles over the course of the three days!" I'm ready to kick it up to the 30's for my rides. Yesterday she called and said 20 is still kicking her ass...so it looks like we'll not be doing 100... But that's okay, really, as much as I want to push things I don't want to burn out either. So I'll be reporting back, let you all know. JC-You are certifiably insane. Hoosier-there is a 164 mile one day ride called RAIN, Ride Across INdiana. Maybe that could be a long term goal????

I love that bike ticker. Okay, I'm down for the 1/10 of the tour de France. I did 23 miles on Tuesday. I'm planning on riding Friday and Sunday too. Maybe even Saturday. It's a sickness, I tell you, but I love it! I hope everyone had a good holiday yesterday. I'm "fasting" today...not really, but holy crap, I ate too much yesterday.:faint:So it's going to be a light day today.
  13. Pamela- That's freaking awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations for getting all that work done! I hope you and your honey had a nice time together.

Lizrbit and maryumC Howdy! The biking thing is fantastic. I'm peddling past corn fields mostly. They have their beauty but it's not GA or ME, for sure! OH is for Ohio, not like Oh, I'm so surprised or for Obesity Help...I had no idea I grabbed their tag. Anyway, I'm off for a big ride tonight only to learn that it might be slim pickings with the other riders because my town is having thier big fireworks display tonight. I don't know the roads they ride, so I'll be sticking to the trail if no one shows. Regardless I'll be out on my bike

I can't imagine living life as a bypass person. The fear of dying. The complications. I want to lose weight to enjoy this life as a healthy person. Bypass doesn't equal healthy to me. HTH

Help Me, I'm turning into a Snackasaurus!!

I'm with you on wanting to snack. It's just bad, bad, bad.... It's a behavior control thing, IMO. Maybe you (we) need to eat more satisfying foods at meal time. I'm curious to see what the board has to say.
  21. You know it some bladder problems are due to excess wieght. Weight loss might help with your issue.

purple monkey- I'm also fill less at this point in the game. I see surgeon on Monday and I'm thinking about getting my first one. I just got off an 11 day plateau, which is so disheartening. My calories are increasing too, jmcambra. I really try to keep it under 1300, but I've been averaging 1500+ lately which makes me think it time for a fill. I struggle to only eat that, I want more food! But I'm on the fence too. My doc and I have a 10 pounds a month agreement. If I don't see a loss of 10 pounds in month I get a fill...but I'm seeing the 10...but it's hard not to eat more. I feel like I've got two people arguing in my head about this! Let us know what you decide. We will share too when all of my voices come together and decide. I see some folks on here who are happy as bees eating 800 calories or fewer. Talk about jealous! Thanks Tia, you know I worry. A girl has got to eat!

First of all 5 miles is fantastic. I started off barley able to do 3. You've got to start somewhere. You should be proud of yourself! I decided to buy a road bike because I knew I was never ever going to ride anywhere that wasn't paved. So that helped eliminate moutain bikes and hybrids. I also was riding a bike that didn't fit me well, it made my back and shoulders hurt to ride more than a few miles. So I knew I had to look at my size in relationship to the bike. I'm short and needed to buy a small bike. I'm so used to buying everything BIG, it was interesting. Also, I was afraid to go too hog wild so I knew I wanted an "entry level" bike. Road bikes start at $600 and can go into the thousands. With that in mind I got on bikes. Giant, Trek, Schwinn, Specialized...and bought the one that fit me the best. I had no problem going to the skinny biker dudes saying, I want a bike and this is how I plan on riding. Really, they are typically so stoked about the sport they encourage everyone to ride, and there you are a willing listener! Take your time to get the bike you want. Get your butt on a few and ride them around. Spend some time on line to see what might best suit you, what kind of riding you see yourself doing in 6-9 months, not next week...because you can out grow a bike pretty quickly. There's a ton of information on line, just dig a little. Let us know which way you are leaning and we'll support you! I knwo JC is a recumbant biker, I believe he has other bikes too. Areelady has a hybrid that she's in love with And I'm a road biker. There are commuter bikes, fitness bikes, hybrid bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes, recumbant bikes...I feel like Bubba from Forrest Gump..you've got shrimp gumbo, shrimp cocktail, shrimp kabobs, shrimp ala king...
  25. Eddie, Thanks for the holler back. Protesters are too much. Here in Columbus, the dykes on bikes (hubba hubba) put themselves between the protesters and the parade and rev their engines to drown them out. PRIDE not in June? Seems down right ignorant...but whatev... XO
