I was told 3 meals and snack between, anyone else
Snowball replied to noosagirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree and I think the saying "whatever" works for you then.......... that is what you should do. I did not make myself clear I guess but I did not mean fat free, carb free...I was meaning low doses. There are needs in our body for a certain amount of carbs, fat etc.. I was just trying to say limited I guess.... I, personally and again this is a personal opinion as to what worked for me so far.....70 grams of protein per day while on my pre and post op and I truly believe that it saved me from "caving" in because the protein gave me the energy to get out and do things instead of sitting around feeling half starved lol This is a classic example of ......trust your Dr. and what feels right for you. There can be a thousand answers to the same question because a person has to do what works in their case. Sorry if I said that all wrong.... -
I agree also the heavier you are the faster the first pounds come off because it stands to reason that a 300 pd person is taking in a lot more calories to maintain that weight as compared to someone who started at 200, so when the food is gone and the liquid pre and post op diet is put into action the person who was eating a higher amount of food is going to see some drastic changes at first. Does that make sense? I know what I am trying to say but it just isn't coming out sounded right UGH .... Anyway.....just do what is right for you as an individual and you will be happy with the results. And GOOD LUCK!

Snowball replied to noosagirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think all Dr.'s have their own way of doing this but common sense tells me that your 3 meals should be high protein, low sugar, fat carbs etc.... and snacking? That could be a protein shake, bananna, anything light and sugar free. We are all in this for one reason and that is because we are fat and are tired of it mentally and physically, so make your decisions based on where you want to be in a year and the rest will fall into place! Good luck and hang in there......we are all in this together! Judy -
Dr. David Kermode - Greetings Dr. Kermode & Peg
Snowball posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I have the honor of being the first person here who posted on Dr. Kermodes forum. I was banded on May 22nd, 2009 and this is a fantastic doctor who knows his stuff. He is very friendly, and informative. A person feels at home when around him. I have nothing but good to say about this Dr. But, you know the saying behind every successful man is a good woman hahahahahahhaha well, I have to give tons of credit to Peg Ernst is my support group leader, scrub nurse, fantastic RN and all around beautiful person inside and out! My experience with this Dr. has been nothing but outstanding. I have a long road ahead to reach a healthy weight but I have no fear that with these people on my side it will be done!!!! THANKS! Suggestions Please On Best Tasting Protein Shakes
Snowball replied to slim2be's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on May 22nd and am a total of 61 pounds down right now (I lost 41 pds before surgery) I love the Advant-ease shakes. And the Whey vanilla with skim milk plus the all time favorite of the bullets hahahahaha........... Even though I am cleared to eat real food now I find myself drinking shakes and etc...untill dinner then a nutricious meal and maybe a couple of sugar free popsycles for later at 15 cal. each. I was told that at least 70 grams of protein were needed for pre-op and post-op and I did really well with this, no shakes, starving feelings. I also drank chicken and beef broth just for variety. It is a good thing there is such a big variety of things to choose from or we would all be in trouble lol I seriously believe the 70 grams of protein, low sugar, fat and carbs are the key to a successful liquid diet. -
Newbie, banded on 6/1/09
Snowball replied to casino2595's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hang in there it will get better. Try to have at least 70 grams of protein a day and that will help you feel better and have more energy. I was banded May 22nd and lost 20 pounds from the 10 day pre-op and 10 day post-op. I had last 41 before I started that so I am now at 61 pounds down and about 100 to go:w00t: hahahahahaha.............sounds bad when I say it like that. Just keep focused and GOOD LUCK! -
What is the two week diet right before surg???
Snowball replied to emtsusieq's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is something I have not figured out yet either......guess it is mainly a personal choice of the surgeon -
Surgery on May 11th 2009
Snowball replied to Kate08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hopefully I will get a date tomorrow. Everything is cleared through insurance so this should be my appointment that sets up the pre op diet...I am dreading that BUT I will live. You do need more protein and things to keep you healthy. Did you have a dietician help you set up for this? If not....I would call the Dr and voice my concerns.... Keep us posted...ok? Good luck! -
tricare Europe(germany) lapband
Snowball replied to desperateinDE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi.....and all the way from Germany wow! I do not know how things are done where you are but I had to show that I had tried weight loss programs with no lasting results and that my health was at risk if the weight did not come off, which to me is a no brainer lol.... Hopefully someone who is closer to you can help you with your questions if things are done differently over there GOOD LUCK!!! -
not good results,another stress test
Snowball replied to Big Mama 514's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi BigMama...... Anything new at this point? I hope it gets settled and shows you are fine BUT if you are not fine then you need to know now. Just think.....had you not had these tests and found out early that there was a problem....you could very well have died while having surgery or just have a heart attack unexpectantly. AND it may also be nothing......let us know if you have any updates!!!!!!! -
Like everyone else has said.....don't worry until you have something to worry about. This is probably a glitch as was suggested.........hang in there....I know the feeling. I am seeing my surgeon tomorrow and hoping to get a date for surgery! Please keep us updated on what you find out! Good luck and cyber hugs!

Is Cigna an insurance company on their own or a company based type or what?
-
I am sorry....I think I must be getting testy because I have waited 2 weeks going on three for my Medicaid to approve (I am on SSI) and they (DR. office) talked like that was not a problem but I am starting to stress pretty bad about it. So, when I saw no one was talking to me I got snippety.....sorry. I have read so much in this thread that my head is spinning. Especially about the 10 day pre op and 10 day post op being not healthy and some members actually getting physically sick over the drastic cut back. You do make it sound much better though.....maybe I am just getting panicky over the thing as a whole and waiting for Medicaid to decide my fate..... Thank you so much for your reply!!!!

Hmmm guess no one answered me here

Start Preop diet today but my pug died yest
Snowball replied to bellatrickz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh gosh, as a pet lover I can sympathize with you there!!!! That would be very depressing. I commend you on going ahead with your pre op diet.....you will be the better for it while starting under such a big issue the end will be very rewarding. I am still waiting on insurance approval but they do not see a problem so I will probably be right behind you soon. Our 16 year old cat died Christmas day last year... Hang in there and do this for you and just a suggestion here but maybe you could start a "memory album" right away and restore some good memories. It may help.... -
Everyone different I know but...
Snowball replied to Lapbanded_Paladin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
WOW these are impressive numbers!!! :thumbup:Did you exercise a lot or do anything different than the normal????? -
Hopefully I will be starting my pre-diet liquids... in about 2 weeks.....just waiting on insurance to give the ok. I have to admit something here though......you guys are scaring me to death. I know this procedure requires a lot of involvement on my part but if I am going to be hungry all the time then why the surgery??? I guess it is just my nerves.....I will live.....:smile2:

Hello....pre-surgery jitters
Snowball replied to Snowball's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It seems we are all in about the same place give or take a day...... it will be nice to have someone to compare notes to and maybe even cry toooo LOL -
I was searching for some type of support group concerning Lap-Band surgery and this came up so here I am I have my evaluation next Tuesday then it is a matter of waiting for ok's from insurance and my 10 day pre-surgery diet. It would be appropriate for me to call myself getting really nervous and I am scared to death of failure and that won't do at all. So.....I will see what everyone here has to say and hope I will get the support I so desperately need. :cursing:

Hello....pre-surgery jitters
Snowball replied to Snowball's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi there.....so glad to hear from someone who is at about the same stage I am at. Have you done anything in preparation for the surgery yet? I am kind of winging this on my own as I am so far away from our local meetings and everything I have done since the original meeting has been on the internet. Is your evaluation costing very much? Mine is $200.00 and the insurance does not pay for that. I am on disability and get medicaid. They will pay for the surgery thank God....or so the instructor said, I hope she is right. Maybe we can email each other and give each other support personally. If you want to do this I will give you my email address luvbirds50@hotmail.com
