  4. Here are some updated pics. Banded June 09 by Dr. Kirshenbaum Start 282 Current 187 Goal 165-175
  5. Thanks for the kind comment, You look great too :)

  6. Banded June 9 2009 Dr Kirshenbaum Pre op 282 Currently 209. Before photo was a month before my surgery and I couldn't complete a 5K walk. This weekend on my birthday I completed a 13.1 mile half marathon. I'm a happy camper and I cant wait to take another 30lbs off for my one year anniversary of being banded.
  7. Hi All, For those of you who caught my posts a couple of weeks ago....I'm fine and still on schedule for the 10th. I'm not sure why but I got embarrassed about the surgery and I went into super private mode hence the lack of posts. I'll see you all on the flipside and I'll tell all about my experiences. For now I'm going back into hiding until I have no reason to be anxious anymore.
  8. It really is amazing how far a few good phone calls can go to boost your confidence! My dad had his surgery with Dr Soong in Las Vegas and while Im certain that he's a great surgeon his staff is a bunch of (Edited rant: decided this is not the right place for a bunch of disparaging comments about a surgeons office) Lets just say that not every office is as nice as Dr K. Thank you for the sendoff.. I hope I dont get my date postponed :scared2:
  9. Sad news :scared2: I think I will have to postpone my surgery to a later date because Dr K recommended I see my GP about a possible abdominal hernia I've booked my flight and room (holiday inn -- thanks for the recommendations) so it all hinges on my GP clearing me on Tuesday or hauling butt through some testing so I can stay with the 10th. On top of losing my date I have the worry that something is in disarray in my belly. I had my consult with the nutritionist Paula Peirce and that went really well. I'm so happy with all of the interaction with his staff. I guess a little patience for safety cant be bad.
  10. The holiday inn did seem to look nice online, thanks for confirming that. Im not necessarily looking for fancy but im looking for that nice bed and hoping to land in the trendy part of town so we have things to do if i feel well. Denver seems like a really cool place I wish I didn't have to wait
  11. Hello Dr K people! Im happy to say that I'm scheduled for June 10 to be banded by Dr k! Yay! My telephone consult was the clincher for me. He really knows his stuff and was very friendly. So Im seeking your advice on where to stay for my visit. The list that his office sent me is mostly immediate area budget minded places and Im really looking to stay somewhere nice with some sort of "heavenly super sleeper" type bed. I'll be staying from tuesday through sunday so I also hope to get around the area and have a little post op fun. Were a couple of 30 something mallrats so it seems the place to stay is the DTC area?

    Last stand before the band

I totally agree. I guess my problem lies in accepting this and accepting the band with its imperfections. Im worried that Im going to see something new and wonderful on CNN and regret having a device in my tummy. This thinking is really driving my one last stand mentality. I asked Dr. Atkinson about any new developments and he said he wasnt aware of anything coming. He also reminded me that pretty much anything will be stuck in the FDA for 3-7 years. Am I really willing to wait till im 40 for something new?

    Last stand before the band

When I lose a lot of weight I look back and always think "I'll NEVER be that heavy again" but then I stop living every breath in weight loss mode and I get run over by the same ol' bucket of chicken. I dont want to diet anymore. I want to focus on my work and my interests and not make my weight my hobby again.
  14. Hello band forum! This is my first post and I hope its ok to skip the intro post and go straight to a question. I’ve been lurking here for a long time reading and trying to make up my mind about the band. I suffer from a serious affliction of analysis paralysis and I just don’t think I’m ready. Every time I decide I’m going to make an appointment for a consult (been to the seminar 3x now) I fall back on a million what ifs. My number one hang up is that I have had amazing success (122 lbs. down once) twice in the past so I keep thinking I just need to try “traditional methods” one more time. My latest line of thinking is that if I’m going to shell out 15k in cash (Dr. Atkinson in Las Vegas) I owe it to myself to at least spend 5k on a personal trainer and nutrition. I have conceded to the idea that whatever I do the weight will probably come back in time but I believe there is something better coming around the corner. Hopefully by the time my weight is back there will be a better breakthrough solution than the band. So my question is: Did you make a “last stand before the band” and what did you try? Im sure everyone can recall the last thing that they tried but what I’m asking is if you did one particular thing with the idea of having the band done if you failed? A little intro about me…. Im 31 Male(rare around here I understand) 5’7 271 Current 305 High (1997) 183 Low (2001 on atkins) Also went from 210 to 135 as a high school freshman Built like a brick(I was very very lean at 183)
