    New 60+ Thread

congrats on your weight loss. I am still trying. What do you eat? I am trying to revamp my diet and need some advice on what to do. Had my operation on Feb 28th and have only loss 25 pounds with regains. Finally, got restriction at 8.3 with the realize band last wednesday. Still can eat more than 1 cup at night. But I feel I can lose now. Would really appreciate knowing what other 60+ folk are doing to lose 100 + pounds. Hope to hear from you soon.

I don't know what to eat!

So you weigh your food? I am confused when they say eat a 1/2 cup they mean 4 oz. My day looks like yours with a little more food.

    3yrs 11mths and 21 days .... I hit GOAL!!!

For those who have been at this for a while. I have a dumb question, how do u measure a 1/2 cup or 1 cup of food. Do you weigh it or jam all the food into a measuring cup. I aim for 4 to 8 oz at a time because I don't always have an opportunity to cut up everything into a measuring cup. Just wondering. Have lost 24 lbs since starting this journey in late january. Had surgery on 2/28
  4. Had another fill on thursday, second one, now at 7 cc but seem to b able to eat quite a lot. Definitely not my sweet spot as weight loss is slow. no other problems to report now but I will go in next week for additional fill.

I had an infection. After 2 weeks of antibiotics I have less pain but it is still sore check to make sure there is no infection
  9. I was banded on 2/28 and can now eat anything I want with no problem, even bread. I am looking forward to a fill as I am gaining weight. I went in for a fill but had a problem with the port, she could not find the port. Looked like I had an infection and have been on antibiotics. Not a happy camper now.

My port is hard to get into for a fill

did u take an xray. I did and it was not flipped. I do have a lot of scar tissue and the port is right beneath the port. I felt like you did no more surgery.
  11. Hi all. I am healing but definitely need a fill. Very hungry now. Also have lost about 18 pounds, counting presurgery liquids and now. But definitely need a fill. Feeling better as well.

My port is hard to get into for a fill

I had the same thing happen. my surgeon used three needles and gave up. it hurt like hell and now I am sore. I left the office to take x-ray to find it or see if it had "flipped". It hadn't. No fill as of yet. There is swelling there and they had to drain it several times. I am on antibiotics. I am really upset about it. As it is really swollen now and hurts. I would like to hear from other about this port issue. I have a lot of scar tissue as well.

At the losing weight game, we are all new and need support to fight this fight. Be well and don't see yourself as a failure. Just get back on the wagon you can do it.
  14. Me too. I had a hiatel hernia which had to be repaired. Although I am banded on the 28th I am already eating soft foods and a few regular foods..I went to the surgeon regarding my incisions and the NP told me I could start mushies. I eat very soft but don't puree. Doing ok but pain in the port. Don't weigh because have just learned I also have a thyroid problem. Will go to regular foods fully on thursday

    New 60+ Thread

I am two weeks post op and feeling pretty good. But the weight is not dropping off. I can eat anything. Nothing gets stuck, although I am very careful. I am already eating real food. Hummus, eggs, and tuna. I have no restriction and it is very hard. MY question is have you noticed that us older people lose less weight or more slowly than the others? I have not been on the scale since I went to the surgeon's office last monday but I don't feel like I have lost alot. I try to keep the calories to 1000 or less. Also my primary care physician says that my thyroid is very low and I have to now take thyroid medication. Any comments?? I really want this to work.
  16. Yes. did you have your band done at NYU? actually i went back to read my operations report. it said that it was high as well. I won't see my surgeon until the 27th. I have lots of questions.
  17. i got the realize band on feb 28 and it was a 11cc. the surgeon put 4cc in at the time. this is suppose to be the newest model.
  18. Went yesterday to check the incisions, nine days post surgery. after all those liquids I am only down 3 lbs. Also my port was swollen. The nurse removed 20cc of old blood and liquid from from the site, but he said swelling at the port was pretty typical and that I was still carrying water from the surgery which was 2/28. I do feel bloated :frown:I thought I would have lost more. Any comments, tips etc.

Thanks for your support. One problem, the port site is red and tender to the touch, no oozing or bleeding. But you can actually see the swelling. Any advice? I see the doc's nurse practitioner tomorrow.

Hello I am joining this group. Was banded on saturday. still sore and gassy but seem to be healing. went on the pre-op liquid fast and loss 15 pounds from highest weight. Have not been on the scale since right before the surgery. I will wait until I go in for a check up on the incisions on monday. I am in need of support and not familiar with how this site works. I really want this surgery to work and am following my surgeon's directions to the t . I have the realize band; the surgeon told me she put in 4cc rather than leave it empty. I can get food done but the pouch does not hold much. anyone have had experience with the realize band? Is there a big difference with the other one? I am looking at 150 lbs as my goal.

    27th close out the month

This is the end of the 5th day for me. Stomach is still sore although better than it has been and have had a small bm finally! How long does it take for the soreness to go away. I had a hiatal hernia repair as well. Don't know whether that makes it more painful.
