Stephanie-- I can only tell you my experience with feeling like I was over eating and needing a fill-- I told myself as long as I was losing at least one pound a week--no fill. I was--but I felt like I was able to "eat too much" and wanted the band tighter. I got my wish. An agressive fill nurse and a nice tight fill. The bottom line is, I have no idea how much I'm consuming (or not). I can't eat much without a golfball or PB. I keep thinking it's because I'm not chewing enough or eating too fast, but I may be too tight. I'm rarely able to wait l hour after eating to drink liquids--golf balls and PB's. Exercise is just now becoming a regular habit again--had to quit for a while--too uncomfortable after the fill. Why does being too tight impair your ability to lose? Beats me--but I'm proof. I'm working hard to get back to my happy place. Being able to exercise seems to help. If you've got a reaonsably good thing going--don't mess it up.

Randi-- Did you get any written post op instructions? If you're PBing on bread--no wonder. Most LBer's can't tolerate any bread. Sorry about the dentures. Having mouth pain will keep anyone down. Not a phobia of mine. My DM has all her teeth and is constantly in dentist office--all the enamel came off her teeth and she had to have them capped. My DD, on the other hand has a handsome set of dentures and looks great--so much better than DM. Has a natural looking set and eats anything and everything! So does my denture wearing FIL. Could be a less complicated way of dealing with mouth pain if you get the right look and fit. Best to you. I personally think you're doing well. 30 pounds in 2.5 months "ain't too shabby" If you're looking at wearing dentures--you probably weren't born yesterday. Weight loss is much slower for those over 40. Get some good instructions on what to eat and dos and don'ts from the info threads on this site. When I stretch the rules--the scales seem to get "stuck".

Help - restriction is fine but not losing
Pinkylee replied to Connorsmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Exercise seems to be my #1 weapon. -
Busy here with golf balls and PB's. My fill is not too tight. Just eating too fast. I'm happy with the restriction, but not happy with weight loss. I haven't stuck with the "rules" and it's shocking how little "calories consumed" has to do with my weight loss. An old leg injury is back giving me fits. My DD told me I have one young leg and one old leg! She's right. LOL Oh the lessons I learn, I must relearn again and again. Glad to hear the Barbara's are losing and feeling good. Always enjoy everyone's posts. It nice to know we have friends with the same issues. RE: Clothing--I promised myself I wouldn't buy anything new, but my DH wasn't happy seeing me in "droopy" drawers. I took him up on the offer. Sorry to say--most 14-16W's still fit. Was hoping to buy exclusively in "regular" women's sizes. I was always a good 18/20 and 22 in my waistline. 14-16 (even with a W) is making me happy!

My husband spent a lot of this summer making hurricane shutters for our windows b4 the hurricane season started. I bought the dog food, people food, etc shld we decide to stay if one comes our way. Never thought about making reservations early Cindy--thanks for that one! By the way--I'd rather face a hurricane than the clogged highways and dangerous conditions on the road.

Janelle: Good luck. Be careful with powdered protein mixes. My doc has seen bands become clogged due to improper mixing of powdered protein. I love my new restriction. I'm still hungery at times--probably "head or Heart hunger". Seem to be eating less and enjoying it more. However--my body seems to be losing inches and not pounds right now. Go figure. Part of the process that makes us each a unique loser. All the best on your new adventure!

SOTC thread...Why NOT to post when your angry
Pinkylee replied to nursekathy2u's topic in Rants & Raves
I read some of the mud slinging last night and it mad me sad. Thanks Alexandria for reminding us what LBT is all about--support for everyone struggling to learn to live the best life they can with their band. Just want to say that I appreciate all the info and all the posts. Without it, I wouldn't know what the heck was going on with my body. By nature, many who are severely obese are depressed. People vent, tempers flare, but we need to get over it quickly and move on--or we'll be the losers. From now on, I'm going to take what I need from the board and leave the rest alone! If my posts offend you, PM me and we'll have a good discussion! -
Beware of Blueberries- My band is fine though!
Pinkylee replied to Julie*'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree with Tootarts--was it blueberries, lack of chewing, or the esophagus? I carry a box of raisins for a healthy emergency snack--a lot like blueberries. (fruit skin) Thanks for sharing--a good reminder to us all to be CAREFUL-- I PB'd on mashed potatoes at our fav restaurant--usually not a lump in a boatload--not this Sunday. Rooky masher--Was hurting all day. What a waist of time--NEVER TAKE ANY food FOR GRANTED. -
Poodles-- Glad to hear from you and happy you have reversed the cycle. Late nite eating is the biggest diet buster I know. Haven't experienced a reversal--just enjoying mild restriction with last fill (it was super, oh well). Some have discovered ice cream is the devil in disguise. For me it's chili. It was just thin enough to go down smoothly. Before I knew it, the entire 15 oz can was gone. Have to admit some decisions to be made are pushing my buttons. Stress--it tightens the band--it whispers in my ear just how easy it would be to "beat the band" just this once. It's not the band that causes me pain--it's STRESS. Ok--war is declared! I'm tired of making excuses for not following the rules. Although I usually stay below 1200 cals/day and exercise faithfully, I'm still nibbling--smaller bites--but still at the fridge. I need a break from the lure of food, but I'm the only one that can give it to me and I'm clueless on how to stop this cycle.

Gone For Good Club- August 2006

PNut-- You are the ultimate "caregiver" of LBT. You are a plethera of sound information on the LB and now you spill you guts in an area most of us would rather sweep under the rug. Your honesty is causing some major re-evaluation. Keep on keepin' it real--we all love and support you. P.S. -1 (-30.5 since join) 212.5 Current -
Penni-- When you go through deep waters in great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fires of oppression you will not be burned up, for I am the Lord Your God - Isaiah 43:2-3 (LB) The sweetest times in my life have been the most sorrowful. I've felt God's presence totally. My prayer for you Penni is that you feel God's presence in these difficult days.

Regina-- Congrats to you. You look great. People who make negative comments are usually overweight themselves or have a close relative who needs to lose. I admit I've been jealous of WLS folks before I was able to be banded. It's really kind of sad. I enjoy smiling at their comment and offering very little comment in return. My healthier body speaks for itself. I am only down 1 size, but I smile a lot these days. I seem to be eating less since fill last week--but my scale is playing hide and seek with this last pound. Liquids, mushies and lack of exercise spell trouble for me. Even water is a chore. I need to get back on my game! Good luck to everyone as we approach the 3 month banded mark. The overall tone of The Mighty Junebies seems to have changed for the better. Go team!

No way--Yeah for Telly--Funny and real!
-
Telly--You are a lapband legend. Enjoy your posts. You are beautiful and so generous to be so real--love the shorter look. Brings out the bone structure in your face. I've taken Biotin (easy to find even at Walmart and cheap) and it seems to be helping with hair loss. St Ive's Jojoba Shampoo is another good easy remedy. We can't seem to find it any more. My poor DH is without his Jojoba and it really shows!

Nonfat refried bean tostadas. (toast corn tortilla in microwave for l l/2 minutes) Spread with refried Beans (with Southwest chipolte seasonings) and top with lettuce, onions, sour cream, shredded cheese Frozen meatballs thawed, microwaved and drained of fat. Homestyle tomatoe sauce, packaged brown gravy, stroganoff sauce (I use non fat plain yogurt instead of sour cream) or sweet N sour sauce make a really quick meal--I serve with instant mashed potatoes--doc says no Pasta for his patients. Ready in minutes

Start with coffee and then a low-carb slim (2 grams carbs--20 grams protein) About 10:00 a.m it's l/4 C nonfat refried Beans on a microwave crisped corn tortilla (if I have time) I need 1000 - 1200 cals a day or I don't lose. I prefer adding them in the am Thankfully, I am addicted to healthy food--a big departure from pre-band days. Guess I don't want to waste effort on eating junk! MaryB--The only change in my sleeping pattern is that I sleep more soundly. I'm rarely tired during the day, another pleasant byproduct of the band.
-
I'm not potato crazy, but when I'm tired of chewing and the thought of working my way through another meal gets to me--I eat l/2 small order of chili cheese fries. I even fried sweet potatoes once. Mind you, it's only when I know I've "had it" chewing and eating slowly.
-
Barbara12-- Good for you on the loss! Good luck on the fill. I was wondering how you were. By the way both of you Barbara's are ahead of me in weight loss if you count from day of surgery. My ticker is from 6/6 pre-op. Barbara4-- I seem to be fine today. No golf balls--taking it easy--but the restriction is much better. I'm not sure what I would do if I were you--probably call Patrice and ask what's up? So far I'm happy with restriction and don't plan to allow myself to get so "loose" again. I developed some bad habits while I was flowing "free".

"I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future" Jeremia 29:11 Weight loss is only one of my needs. God will provide answers if I look to Him and keep struggling to be the best person I can be. I am thankful to be reminded that God has a plan for my life.

Cindy-- You look amazing! Are you exercising? Looks like you're toning too. Thanks for posting. Barbara-- Isn't it great to join the "real" world if only for a few hours? Congrats on a successful party. Enjoy it now before the fill--I golf balled everytime I ate yesterday. Still not chewing to smitherines. I'll learn--back to mostly liquids today.
