Hi Coops, I am post menopausal, I had mine at 38! Spent a few years on HRT, stopped it all before the op. Am OK with it now. I was taking in maybe 600-800 in the early days but I just put my details in DailyPlate (I only used the free version BTW), and took the calories they recommended for losing 2lbs a week. I found I had to eat more to lose, strangely enough. I think the body can go into starvation mode if the calories are too low. Also maybe the exercise you did early on converted fat to muscle which is heavier. Did you lose inches and change clothes size even if the weight stayed the same? I wondered about getting one of the scales that detect the fat % in your body but never actioned that. It would be an idea for you to monitor those changes to get a clue of what's occurring. I hope it all starts moving for you soon. Jane x

Hi Coops, I didn't lose as fast as some of the people in the USA because I think my sleeve was slightly looser. When the loss slowed down I started logging everything I ate and did on the DailyPlate, I started this is October 2009, the op was done in May 2009. This really helped me understand my intakes and Protein levels. Plus the effects of walking for a hour. I majorly ate eggs too, they seemed to keep me full from Breakfast to lunch. Lunch would be a chicken or tuna with salad. I would have an apple in the afternoon and then dinner of protein and green veg. I was pretty rigid and I didn't start drinking booze till I was maybe around 8 stone down. It was quite boring but I didn't feel hungry and once I got in the routine it was easy. Keeping busy at work helped too. Thanks for the comment re the LBD. It is really worth going the full way down to size I think. It's a big op and a bigger opportonity to put things right, that's how I approached it. Jane xx

Hi coops, First off well done on your loss so far. I have a question though. Why does your surgeon feel you shouldn't get to at least a BMI of 25? I don't understand. Jane x

Jane_J replied to italianlady13's topic in Rants & Raves
I didn't even tell my PCP (GP) I was doing the op because I knew by then that I would know more than anyone in the practice!!! And I was right. They hadn't got past the lapband and the bypass here in the UK early 2009!! Think its a bit better now but to get it done on the NHS I believe you need to have a BMI of 50+ and co-morbidities. A guy recently lost a court case to get it done before he got to BMI 50 on the basis of a BMI of 43 & type 2 diabetes. I was self pay in Czech Republic so I did not need to get permission but I could afford the £5K fee. -
Don't worry, I felt the same when I was losing. It gets to a point though when as Tiff says a few pounds really show, but thats when you are much closer to goal. You will get there marymoon. Jane x

I think men tend to me more squeamish generally. I have yet to find a guy who would get his eyes lasered for short sightedness, but I know loads of women who have. I know this is a sweeping statement and the guys on here are the exceptions.

I want it so bad I can TASTE it!
Jane_J replied to Rootman's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Rootman, it will go slower, that is inevitable, but it will go, so hang in for the long haul. I am still losing very gradually over 2 years out. In fact I am trying not to! Jane x -
If there's one thing you think pre-surgery members should know...
Jane_J replied to NewPath4Me's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Absolutely!!! And skinny jeans too!! Also you may not need acid blockers for the rest of your life. But most need them for a considerable time. I weaned off my PPI after a yearish. Jane x -

Hi, There is some data and it's from people who have had essentially a VSG for other reasons, like ulcer or cancer removal. I have a freind who had a large proportion of his stomach removed 20 years ago due to an ulcer and he is absolutely fine. Jane x -
Hi Tex, Glad you are on the other side of it now. The general anaesthetic can make you very low and it takes some time to work through your system. I think you will now feel better and better, especially when you get the all clear to move onto solids and you get to appreciate the restriction both in capacity and desire eat. All the best and keep us all posted. Jane x

Going from 0 mph to 90 mph in a blink!
Jane_J replied to Miss Hope's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Hope, welcome to the club VSG. You will find so many people on this forum who can help and advise from their own experience. For me, like many of them, getting sleeved was the best decision and has enabled me to regain my life, in quality and fun. It is quite awesome to be able to enjoy buying clothes and to feel good about yourself, there are no words that adequately describe that feeling. August 16th will be here in no time at all and then you can succeed like we have. I would try to follow the liver shrinking pre-op diet religiously, it makes the surgery easier for you and the surgeon. I was advised by my surgeon in Czech Republic to take Milk Thistle extract and an MD on here also suggested Vit E as an aid to making the liver as healthy as possible. Since taking Milk Thistle I have never had a bad hangover as I do like a few tipples now I am at goal. So I am sure it does work! :cheer2: Jane x
