    100 Pounds Gone

Well done Gary, I wish more people knew about this op. I have to stifle the urge to accost fat people in the street to tell them what they could do about their situation. It would just be too impolite. Diving is way better when you are not whale shaped!

    UK Sleevers

Hi kazzy, Thats good, how did you find the surgeon in India, and was it a good experience? Was the long haul flight OK and how long after surgery did you fly home? I need to get my teeth done too, plus a boob reduction/uplift, tummy skin trim and a bit of a face lift. Probably won't do any of them but I can dream. Cheers, Jane:thumbup1:
  4. Hi, I have attached a zipped spreadsheet with my weight loss over time if this helps. You can see it decreases in rate as you get closer to target. When I felt I was losing momentum I used MyPlate - food Diary & Food Calorie Counter | LIVESTRONG.COM to get on track. Hope this helps to show that at 7 months out you are still going to loose loads. JJWeight.zip

Helen, I am so sorry to hear of your worries. I honestly think that if they could pin the causes on autism on maternal alcohol consumption they would have done it by now. The media love to blame Mums. I have a friend in a similar situation to you and she is convinced that the autism was caused by her husbands exposure to toxic substances in that war, either the vaccines or the depleted uranium. But mothers feel responsible for their childrens plights, it's part of the maternal love thing. Maybe yours has tipped over a boundary though and is now destructive. Have you ever had therapy or counselling? I have and it is very helpful. I had depression as a teen, and I think it saved my life, and then in my 40s because I had not coped with losing my mother to cancer in my early 30s and then having twins. This was a grief counseller and she was brilliant. The insight you get to your own behaviour is fascinating and they will give you coping strategies and thinking training to stop the self destruct. I think you are right to can the booze, it's not a very important part of life really, we just think it is because it becomes a habit. Like the smoking, to which I was also addicted and thought I could never enjoy life without. We should all become addicted to self improvement, think how perfect we could become

Ouroborous, I happily drink red wine, I find white more acidic to be honest. Also I happily drink beer, lager, English bitter which is flatter, Magners lighter cyder, champagne, Sauvignon blanc and various cocktails, but obviously not all at once!! I'm not that bad! I don't find my sleeve does anything except restrict food volume now, and I am still on PPIs which bugs me a bit.

Helen, that's terrible. Hope you are feeling better. I find that I get absolutely slaughtered very fast but it doesn't last long. I have 'persevered' with alcohol and now can do what I want, but I restrict it to weekends and holidays. And I didn't touch it much at all when I was in the main losing phase. Now I am heading to maintenance I am being much laxer.

    Regrets??

Non, je ne regrette rien. I have my life back now.
  14. Well if they accept the money from patients who do not speak the same language are they not beholden to make some kind of arrangement for communication???:cursing:

Ouroborous if I was single and a lot younger I would want you. You are intelligent and kind. What's not to like here? I hope you get some confidence to take chances soon, and catch up on what you may have been missing. Then settle down with someone wonderful and have a few lovely kids too!

    Amount of Stomach removed?

Thanks Mini-Me, its been a life changing year that's for sure. Still have anoterh 14 lbs to go but I am just enjoying being alive now, not taking any of it too seriously. I will so enjoy watching all of you getting the same reward for all your hard work and determination :thumbup1:
  19. Lis, I understand what you mean about being more fearful. I think I wore my fat a protective suit of armour and now I am stripped down and more vulnerable in some way. It's a weird thing isn't it, totally illogical, but for me it it getting better and I am now seeing my present state as more normal.

    Having second thoughts

General Anaesthetic, sorry couldn't try to spell it at that moment in my working day, well I should have been working!:thumbup1:
  21. Hi Lis, they are quite big, not super large though. But you can dissolve them, takes a bit of stirring and they don't taste of anything much. Maybe dissolved them in some hot Water and stir into yoghurt or something, or break them in 2 and take in parts. Cheers, Jane

    Having second thoughts

Tiffykins, you have written the answer I would love to have been able to express. I think some people who have this op done are not great communicators so disappear from the forums especially as they attain a more 'normal' weight, some will be in denial that they ever had surgery too, as they will feel ashamed they needed help. I don't know any who failed to lose significant weight after this procedure though, do you? I would have throught by now I would have heard if they exist. The only downside to this op as far as I can see is the risk of a GA and possiblity of a leak in the 1st few weeks. Balanced against the risks of staying fat I would imagine that the op is safer than doing nothing within 6-12 months.
  23. Hi, you need calcium citrate, not calcium carbonate as in TUMS. Unfortunatly most calcium suppliments are in the carbonate form so you have to look at the labels very carefully. I mail ordered my Solgar Calcium Citrate with Vitamin D.

    Amount of Stomach removed?

I was told by Dr Cierny that he had removed 60% of my stomach, but I don't know if that was by weight or volume. However it was sufficient to work and allow me to live normally now, I can eat maybe 5oz of steak, or a chicken breast and a spoonful of veg with that in one sitting. I am careful to always eat Protein 1st now.

    Not Happy.

Looking at your ticker you have lost over 17lbs since your op, which was 21 days ago. This is my loss at that point, bear in mind UK dates are DD/MM/YYYY. In that period I lost 18 if we run a 4 week window, 15 if we look at a 3 week window. 10/05/2009 230 15/05/2009 229 18/05/2009 227 25/05/2009 221 01/06/2009 215 08/06/2009 212 Please don't beat yourself up, you are normal, your body is dealing with swellings and adapting to change. You are still suffering the effects of the anaesthetic too which can make you low. It will work out, stop thinking about it. Read a book, watch some TV and believe in it. You won't lose the weight in a month or two, for me it has taken 11 months to get to an end point but it has been totally worth it and I am confident it is permanent. Take heart and courage mon brave. All the best, Jane
