Pickle it and pop it on the mantlepiece, make a nice talking point at parties. Jane x -
Hi I was Ok with my work colleagues here in the UK but I have heard that school staff rooms can be particularly poisonous, so I can understand your concerns! Jane x

When will my hair stop falling out??
Jane_J replied to greeneyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you run your fingers over your scalp under your hair do you feel any little spikey hairs yet. This happened to me when my hair finally started to regrow and now it is back to normal. this started at around 5 months I think, so try not to worry too much. Jane x -
Thanks for the tip re Seitan, I will try it if i can find it. Jane x

I really think we are too fussy in the West, please don't take this the wrong way but it's a bit odd as I see it really. Am I weird by not being freaked by animal death!! ? Jane x

Chat to your neighbours on your trip and they will look out for you. Jane x You have nothing to lose -
Hi all, I said I would post my blood test results and here they are. The background is I have been eating a high Protein low carb diet for more than a year now. I eat on average 2 eggs a day, and plenty of white and red meat, and regular fruit and green vegetables. On the DailyPlate I set my cholesterol reading red every day when I log my food! So here we go:- Total serum cholesterol 4.2 mmol/L (should be less than 5) HDL cholesterol (the good variety) 1.7 mmol/L (should be greater than 1 mmol/L) LDL cholesterol (the bad variety) 2.2 mmol/L (should be less than 3 mmol/L) Triglycerides 0.7mmol/L (should be less than 1.7mmol/L) So although according to the received wisdom of nutritionalists I should be wringing lard out of my arteries, my Atkins style diet has left my cholesterol at a perfectly acceptable level. Hoorah!!! :scared0::thumbup::thumbup: All else was in normal range, liver, kidney, blood glucose etc so I am probably healthier now than I was when I was 15 years younger. Jane x

Ooooohhhh: Signin' my [fat] life away!
Jane_J replied to vanishingvixen's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey VV, LOL, I really understood your post, I remember going for massages, to combat the sheer achyness of being so overweight, and struggling to get on the table, turn over on the table and all the while wondering if it might buckle! I did a living will before my surgery just to be on the safe side, and I kind of felt that not doing one would tempt fate. Operations tend to bring out the superstitious side of me. Jane x -
Hi Bigboy4, glad you posted and congratulations. Welcome to the Losers Bench. Jane x

Foods you used to love but now hate

LOL, I haven't tried the proper chip shop chips but the oven variety are really off putting now. I hope you will be the same. I was a chip monster when i could get them, smothered in salt and ketchup. Now the same thought leaves me cold, it's a funny old thing the link between our heads and our stomachs, I never realised that taste could be so physiological (sp?). I was craving tom yum soup with crab stick recently, finally found a Chinese supermarket that sells a good paste. You can make that in a cup which is handy for a quick lunch. Maybe you could get some to make your diet a bit more bearable? What food do you have access to apart from canteen variety? It would be better than the peanut butter, and just as tasty. I could mail you some paste the next time I go to the supermarket if you like. Jane x -

Jane_J replied to emmalouise's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Emma, welcome to the VSG club from the UK. I am sure it will be a positive step for you especially at your age, you have all your life ahead of you and to live it without the burden of the excess weight will be wonderful. There is a fellow Dublinner called Bookleen on this forum. She was sleeved in April in Belgium. Jane x -
Hi Mumwithnobum, what an absolute bummer to have lost all that and then had it go back on. The sleeve will not let you down like that, but it's obviously hard that you have to go through major weight loss twice in a few years. Welcome by the way. Jane x

Hi all, been looking and contributing to this thread on the BBC web site. Some of the people posting are the most horrible fascists. Do feel free to join in and put the boot in. BBC - Have Your Say: Should obesity surgery be offered more widely on the NHS? Enjoy. Jane x

Hi Karen, funny you should say that! There are a smattering of people who have lost the weight through diet and who vehemently oppose surgery. I take comfort that there is a 90% chance that in a few years time they will be fat again, and probably fatter than they were. I have lost patience with hypocrits. Re the polite English, there are other blogs like Old Holborn and Guy Fawkes' blog of parliamentary plots, rumours and conspiracy which would show that we can be just as impolite  I do enjoy my anti-establishment blogs, I don't agree with everything but it's good to see unsanitized rantings sometimes, it's so damn PC here. Question on my mind...and second guessing my choice..
Jane_J replied to Aplus's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Aplus, my surgery was cancelled once and I know the 'maybe its a sign' thoughts. But it wasn't, and I am so glad I did it. I weighed the risk of dying young against dying on the op table and the stats were for the VSG, so I did that. Good luck. Jane x -
Hi Shana, this is probably misinterpreted hunger pangs, but in any event you will not get the benefit of hunger reduction until you get to the mushy/solid food stage when the restriction will cause you to feel full. So just bear with it till you get the OK to move to mushies. Jane x
