The question is "could you have?" the answer is yes....but that would mean hard work the rest of my life. I am LAZY! I am powerless over food! The band gives me that power back and I love it.

Anyone else extremely nervous???
saul replied to rachel73's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded last March 2006 and felt exactly the same way, especially about never being able to eat my fave foods again. For me I thought I would mourn spare ribs, it was my comfort food it was my binge food and I loved getting all messy eating them. Guess what? I have not had a spare rib since February 2006 and I do not miss them one bit. I was in a restaraunt last Sunday and the guy sitting next to me order the biggest plate of ribs i have ever seen and I felt nothing. The mourning period has ended and I am loving the new me. It gets easier and easier, so relax and with a little bit of patients and prayer you will be thin in no time. GOOD LUCK!! -

I have the Inamed card....never thought about using it in a restaraunt. I tell the waiter/waitress that I am a supermodel and thats why I leave over so much food.

I DO! I it as well. I know I can control it because when I dine out for business I concsciencly avoid foods that I will throw up and eat MUCH SLOWER. Its a psychological thing...no doubt about it. I am programmed to be an overeater and a fast eater. I do not want to deal with therapy right now. I also sometimes sabotage my weight lose by eating Hagen Dazs.

I sometimes heat up the V-8 in the micrawave and drink it with a spoon as a soup.

Puddin I am so amazed and proud of you and the other posts who brought this issue of "sex addiction" to the light. I am a recovering aholic myself. I have been one my whole life and after I was banded my addiction got even worse. The weight came off the compliments came in and the EGO grew. The ego could not be controlled and I used to reward myself for everything, I used to punish myself and I used to keep me entertained. I was out of control! I found a therapist who introduced me to a 12 step program and I came out about my addiction to my wife after a few months in the program and with the help of my therapist and sponsor. I am now living a sober lifestyle and although it is hard it has many rewards. I have read your posts and believe you can truly benefit from a similar program. One thing I know for sure is that NO ONE can do it on their own. I tried for years to stop acting out on my own and the longest I ever went was a month. It is an impossible task. I post this here because I know that many banded people have co morbidities whether it be , alchohol, drugs , , shopping or rage and when we physically can not % " ourselves with food we turn to whatever other addiction is lurking and use that to "satisfy" the hunger that the band has removed from us. Good luck, you will be in my prayers.

I was banded in March 2006 have flown internationally many times since and have never set off any metal detectors. The flying definately makes my band tighter and I can not eat a thing in flight.

Mine was when I was standing by a smorhasbord at a wedding stuffing my face with Pasta and meat so that I can quckly finish whats on my plate and refill it with spare ribs that were just brought out. As I was chewing, my dads life long friend came over to me and said, "Saul I was exactly like you at your age, I ate everything as fast as I could so that I could eat some more, I was heavy my whole life and thought it was all a joke, well let me show you something". He then took off his tie and opened up the buttons of his shirt, right there in the middle of someones wedding, he showed me a scar from his neck down to his crotch and told me, "See this scar, because of my weight I underwent a quadruple emergency bypas, the only reason for me coming close to death was that I was carrying around all that belly fat, just like you, if you like these scars keep doing what your doing and hopefully you wont die from a heart attack, if you want smaller scars and a lifetime of being thin then check out lap band surgery". Boy am I glad he did that. I will never forget that image. Thanks Irwin.

Want To Hear About Your "smooth" Post-up Recovery
saul replied to bibytz's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my surgery at 9 AM was sleeping in my own bed at home at 6 PM (damn I paid to have a TV in my hospital room and didnt even watch it). I had no pain whatsover, I never even took the pain meds that were given to me. When I awoke after surgery I undressed my self to see if there were any bandages on me because I didnt feel any different. The night after my surgery I had to go to a party at my sis-in-laws house. I promised my wife (who was against my scheduled date of surgery because of the party) that I would be there and walked around the party with a very HOT cup of tea. That way I had a drink in my hand and I knew there was no way I would be swallowing too fast. I had no pain at the party, everyone commented that they were amazed at my quick recovery. I went back to work 2 days post op and have been loving my band ever since. GOOD LUCK! -
What do you say when people push food on you?
saul replied to sweetsue's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I tell people that I have decided to eat like a super model, the food is delicious but I only eat a small amount. The hardest part is in restaurants where I take 2 bites and leave the rest over. in most restaurants the waiter will ask if everything is OK, then the matre D' will ask if I want something else. I usually say that the food is delisious and I am just no longer hungry. My wife on the other hand likes to make up excuses and say that I am not feeling well. I hate when she does that. One time the check came and the waiter pointed out that he did not charge me for my meal, I insisted that he recalcualte the bill and charge me as the food was fantastic even though I only had 2 bites. -
Hi Paula Your husband sounds like me. I am a rageaholic. It got much worse after banding as I felt deprived (never hungry) and rage on. I have been going to 12 step meetings and seeing a therapist for the past couple of months and my life has changed completely. I feel so much better and my wife and kids actually like the person i have become. Here is a link to web site with a test to see if your husband is a rageaholic. If so I suggest a 12 step program and a mental health specialist. I hate taking drugs and I see a social worker instead of a psychiatrist, but I am doing great. Good luck. http://www.grandtimes.com/Anger.html

Thats the "full: feeling. My only concern is that you "liquified" veggie soup. Are you sure that it is liquid and not mushy. Day 3 you should really only be drinking broth and liquid protien drinks like Carnation. Make sure that the liquified soup is really liquid and not a bit solid. Day 3 post op can be a bit tricky, you get bored of the liquids and try to experiment with "liquifying". This can be a dangerous experiment, you never want to vomit or heave your first two weeks post op. That could cause slippage and that would be too much for a newbie to handle. Good luck and stick with liquids.

Has anyone tried Meridia to help lose weight prior to lap banding?
saul replied to RKidder's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was on Meridia..I hated it! I lost NOTHING but my sex drive and erection! I had headaches all the time and felt horible. I know its hard but I too had to lose weight prior to my surgery due to a fatty liver. I slim fasted it and hated it but in the end it was so worth it! -
Just to add my two cents in from a guys perspective. I think scars are sexier than tatoos! Thats right....I dont have a scar fetish or anything I just think that if you are going to be intimate with someone the scars do not matter at all. If someone notices your scars and comments you should say "yes don't you think scars are sexier than tatoos" This will get him thinking that you are not ashamed of your scars and that you wear them proudly. As far as the port is concerned, I guess if he palpates the area as if he you guys were playing doctor he's gonna find it. If he massages you in that area he's gonna feel it. If he asks just let him know he gets to find out later. Mystery will keep him around for a long time. Enjoy your new body! You deserve it.
