It COULD be, or it could be something else. If it persist, call your doc and discuss. But, kinda keep track of what you've eaten a couple hours before it comes on and see if you detect a pattern. If I have a meal consisting of a lot of carbs, say a dessert/flour products like battered fish/potato/etc, I notice that sleep monster coming soon after. I don't limit carbs, just notice how I feel after a lot of them.

Since you are a month out from surgery, have you possibly started eating more carbs? That can cause delayed fatigue an hour or so after consuming.

My Journey Starting With Pre Op Diet
catfish87 replied to Tawnya777's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You got this! Only 4 more days! One day at a time. -
That pool sounds like it might be a great suggestion. As mentioned above, maybe try other exercises that don't stress your knee. I've been following the progress of some paraplegic veterans on their "Ride 2 Recovery". Handbiking/handcycling is one exercise they use...seems to be working well for them. Some gyms have them. Maybe even your local VA center would have one in their rehab/workout room you can use? Getting that metabolism going will really help. Anything and everything you do will help. Just find what works for you...call or go visit a gym and ask them what they recommend for folks who have knee problems. I'm sure they will be happy to help. Best wishes!

What do you think is the most important factor when choosing a surgeon?
catfish87 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think aftercare is a VERY important factor. Probably more so than with other WLS. I personally would only recommend surgeons who use fluoroscopy for fills. Not necessarily every fill, but at least most. I think its that important. -

You know it is going to be a long ride when....
catfish87 replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Awesome ride Terry! I know EXACTLY what you're referring to....I always try to check out the flags and ride into the wind the first half. It doesn't take a lot of wind to make a huge difference. -
My Dearest Band...
catfish87 replied to BayougirlMrsS's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What a great post!!!!!!! We were banded very close together, and I, like you, got on here and read long before I decided to start posting some. As you said, seen the folks who were successful, how happy they were and tried to learn from them. ( I was really hardheaded! ) So now...a good time later, its wonderful to see you post this...almost like returning the favor to those who did it for us. I sure hope there will be someone just like us who gets on here and reads your post and realizes they too can be just like you....a SUCCESS STORY! They too can win, with dedication/determination like yours. Congrats, Congrats, Congrats! Well done, my friend! -
Another great day to be riding here in the midwest. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/303111213

Do you count calories or just watch what you eat?
catfish87 replied to katspaw's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Here's my opinion: You mentioned you're not at correct restriction YET, so if you want to lose BEFORE you to reach that correct restriction, you'll have to control your calories by dieting....YUCK, I hate that word. But, it doesn't have to be a diet forever.... Here's a summary of what I replied to in a post last night: I started tracking/logging my food/exercise on Jan 14th. I'm using LOSEIT....Not, repeat NOT to limit what I eat, my band does that now, but I was just curious. Here's what I have found over 3 months. I averaged eating about 1750 calories per day. Average calories burned exercising was appx 600 per day. So my Net was 1150 calories. During this timeframe, three months, I went from 252# down to 218#, for a loss of 34#'s. Everybody says a pound equals 3500 calories. THEY'RE right! My BMR 2950 TO MAINTAIN: according to the Mayo Clinic website http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/calorie-calculator/NU00598 My Intake 1750 1200 calorie deficit for 90 days = 108,000 calorie deficit. 108,000/3500 = 31 And I lost almost exactly that. -
Struggling More Than Ever...
catfish87 replied to CCornell87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
CCornell87, It took me a looooong time to get to this level of restriction and be able to control my hunger/eating ( a lot of head hunger/bad habits ). I've been banded over 3 1/2 years, so PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't get discouraged. It takes time to figure this thing out and change what we've been doing for YEARS. I almost gave up on this thing about two years ago. My band had an installation issue. I did the diet thing for the first several months, losing about 70#s or so, then my willpower dwindled, lifelong eating habits returned, weightloss stopped and I actually increased some. FINALLY, my doc started doing fills with fluoro and we figured out my issue, he corrected it, and I'm doing much better. Even and INCLUDING with head hunger. Because I am at correct restriction. Being close and being at the correct level made a big difference for me. THIS IS SUPPOSED/DESIGNED TO BE A LIFELONG DEVICE, so if it takes some of us longer to find that sweet spot and acheive our goal....thats ok. Never, ever give up! -
Great Job! You're well on your way to your goal. You got this! Awesome

What's in your lunch and/or snack bag?
catfish87 replied to PrettyThick1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on the eat whatever I want stage, and I still ALWAYS have Lite n Fit Greek yogurt with me at work (12 hour shifts) for a snack. I have one almost every day. Its like my dessert. To add even more Protein, I like to add a couple tbs of PB2 and mix it well. Very low cal and Delicious! Sometimes a half cup of oatmeal, grits, or polenta does good. I've usually got either grapes, raspberries, apples, strawberries available too. And I keep Protein powder and/or a premade Protein Drink handy too, although I don't use them much now. For meals, I eat a lot of fish, once a day on average. Baked, blackened, and fried....I know....I try and limit that to once per week. Those pre-packaged tuna salads are good for me too.....so easy. I do a lot of crockpot cooking.....beef ribs, chicken breast, pork steaks (that's what they call pork shoulder roast/pork butt here in the Lou??? ) Nice and moist and tender that way. Preportion them in tupperware and just barely warm them up....if I overheat them in a microwave, not so good. Veggies that makes my band happy, like squash, salad, most all fresh veggies I want. I have trouble with brussel sprouts of all things... So really any food that anyone eating somewhat healty would eat now....just less of it. I used to eat the same stuff day after day, because I was concerned of getting stuck, PB'ing, etc. Not an issue now. It took quite a while to get it through my head though. -
Found a nice mess of Morel mushrooms today! and got a nice "workout" hunting them. http://connect.garmin.com/dashboard?cid=9167660#

Not sure about The National Guard, but I can't imagine going thru Army basic training again and telling my Drill Instructor, "I need to take small bites, chew, chew, chew, and take 20-30 minutes to eat." It wouldn't work out so well, from my experience. CONGRATS on your great success!

Cedri, Nice job naming this post! You'll get lots of views for sure! As I see you are newly banded, I'll offer a bit of encouragement/advice: WHEN you get to proper restriction, and it may take some time, this ADJUSTABLE band will kick in and do its part. I don't have to portion control now, I just try and choose healthier options and my band does the portion control...and I'm loving it. Until then, follow your surgeons/Nuts recommended plan as best you can. Don't get discouraged if you have a bad day/week, etc. You'll make mistakes, probably get stuck, PB, etc. NOT TO WORRY, you'll learn from it and move forward. It is a diet in the beginning, now it's just normal to me. Congrats on your decision to improve your life, and best wishes for your success!

I'm 6'0" as well 43y/o. This BMR/Calorie, from the Mayo clinic website ( http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/calorie-calculator/NU00598counter ) would tell me I could "eat" 2950 calories per day to MAINTAIN my current weight. (I chose the "active" activity level, because it sounded correct to me) I started tracking/logging my food/exercise on Jan 14th. NOT to limit what I eat, but I was just curious. Here's what I have found. I averaged eating about 1750 calories per day. Average calories burned exercising was appx 600 per day. So my Net was 1150 calories. I've recently got the juicer used on the "fat, sick and nearly dead" movie. It works well. $149 at BestBuy. The veggie juices work for me as a Meal Replacement for "breakfast". BUT, if you can find the "NakedJuice" brand juice in your local grocer/quick stop, they are almost as cheap as making your own. Plus, NO CLEANUP! And I think they're pretty good tasting.

I was gonna watch it...but it didn't show up??

Are you always conscious of your band?
catfish87 replied to Bandashoop's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't feel mine...physically wouldn't know its there, unless I'm eating or maybe drinking something thick or fast. Just letting it do its thing... -
WHAT!!! I exercised 4x last week and gained 5 pounds! I hate this!
catfish87 replied to OldMomOf3's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I usually wont have anything except a 1/2 cup of cooked oatmeal if its moring time, at least 1/2 hour before exercise (the ONLY "exercise" I do is cycling really) plus about 16 oz of water/coffee. If I'm on a longer ride, I found I do better if I have a low cal Protein Bar or a stick of cheese after the first hour and half or so. For me, I don't usually feel hungry after a ride....really no matter how long it is, until at least a couple of hours later. Then I just eat a "normal" meal.....hopefully with LOTS of protein. Today I had lean corned beef and an avocado. If I need extra protein, I found that I can take a Dannon lite and fit cherry yogurt, 2 tbls PB2 (everybody should try this stuff!). Stir together VERY well. 125 calories, 1.5 grams fat, 17 protein. If I still need some more, I'll add a scoop of chocolate Protein powder. Its really good, with or without the added protein powder!
