It's My Turn to Say.......ONEderland!!!!
catfish87 replied to mrsto's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats!! -
I'm not sure about any storage mode number, but I must have been in it for many years, as my body stored a lot!! Since january, I avg eating 1800 calories, and burn an avg of 700 per day exercising. My bmr is appx 2800. ( that takes those exercise calories into consideration ) If I stay at that 1800, I should lose appx 2# per week......and I am....when I stay there.

Anyone have dizzy spells?
catfish87 replied to Laurie8855's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Exactly Mis! Exactly the same symptoms....And I "gained" 2 lbs ( an extra quart of water ) riding today....Dehydration??? IDK -
Sounds to me like you did something RIGHT! You paid attention to what you did, and LEARNED. Good job! It'll take some time, but to be successful, You will have to do just what you did....learn and adjust. Congrats! Hopefully, you're referring to the food that was above/stuck in your band coming back up. True vomiting the food below your band is a bad thing.

Anyone have dizzy spells?
catfish87 replied to Laurie8855's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had it before...b/p was borderline high. was on meds for it a couple of years prior to banding. I'm 99.9% sure mine isn't band related, as I've had the band for a good amount of time, and this issue just started last fall. (after a severe dehydration issue I caused) I wonder if after one event, others are more frequent/expected?? It is definitely scary....thought I was gonna go down this evening....at least an hour after exercising/LOTS of water/a very small dinner...got up to pay and it hit me like a ton of bricks! You know what I'm talking about....seeing the stars kinda scary! My b/p is 110/70 now... -
Anyone have dizzy spells?

Me too! And I'm not on any meds, haven't been in years now. My doc swears its just dehydration. It happened bad last year.. to the point of passing out/concussion/big ole knot on my head..(totally my fault, as I wasn't drinking enough then) I'm not so sure its STILL dehydration though? I weigh myself before and after riding most times...just to make sure I'm not "losing" too much fluids. And it still happens when I KNOW I'm drinking enough. About a month ago it was pretty bad. BP was 82/55 Called the office and he said, "dehydrated! no biking for a week....yea, right. WTFlip? Happened again today...after a 50 miler, when I GAINED "weight" during it....I don't know what to think. Creekwood..is your's the same after reducing bp meds? -

Almost 2 years and never been in green zone!
catfish87 replied to KimJ384's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Its not really "new", although from what I've read and seen (for the past four years), MOST doctors offices/fill offices don't have the machine at the location. Mine does have it in the office now. Is it required for every fill/adjustment? Simple answer = no From my experience, I would NEVER recommend a person considering getting the band, to consider a surgeon who "won't" use it. Not necessarily at every adjustment, but at least often...say at least every other adjustment. I realize some self pay patients will disagree, due to the extra costs associated with it. That's certainly understandable. BUT, watch and see how many blind fills/unfills/adjustments they have to pay for....without it, it's just a guess. And its NOT just to determine correct adjustment.....trust me. It can see much more....... http://www.hoab.org/...louis-missouri/ -

I wouldn't call it normal, but its not unheard of to be tight after an adjustment for a few days. ( vomiting should never be considered normal ) Sometimes, you read on here where it happens up to a couple of weeks after the adjustment. Since you were able to drink "with no problem" at the office, It MAY be just some irritation/swelling from getting the fill. While you certainly don't want to risk becoming dehydrated, it may get better by this afternoon/evening to allow you to drink clear liquids. Best wishes.

I'm guessing here, because my insurance covers it, but If I can decipher the bill correctly...about $300 more than a blind fill. I realize some would say that's high, but I look at it this way....I went over TWO YEARS getting filled blindly...probably with 7 or 8 adjustments, only to verify they werent going to EVER get me to proper restriction. First time using fluoro, problem found and corrected. I wish I had the video of my first fill using fluoro...I'd post it here so all could SEE what it can show..not just restriction level. -

I understand your frustration....really, I do. BUT, even though it wasn't easy for me to get to this point, it's definately worth it in the end. I've had mine since Sept 09....getting to the correct adjustment only recently. And loving it. Best wishes! -

.2 cc's can make a big difference....when you are close. My last two fills, with fluoro, were both .2 cc's. http://www.hoab.org/fluoroscopy-machine-st-louis-missouri/ -

For me.....from my experience. If you can, request a fill using fluoroscopy. It took me forever ( more than two years ) to reach the "green zone" too....for a couple of different reasons. And I've never had an unfill due to being too tight. I'd never have gotten to this point without the fluoro. It CAN be the difference....once again, my experience. -
Starting my liquid diet today, have one question....
catfish87 replied to Mike70's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With all the various pre-op diets required by different surgeons, it'd be best to ask your team. For me, the pre-op "diet" was one week of clear liquids only....no shakes, no food, nothing but clear/zero calorie liquids. You can do it, one day at a time. Congrats on your decision to get healty! -
I took off work two weeks. Then did "light duty", no lifting, etc for a couple more.

Protein Shakes After Full Healing?
catfish87 replied to solson8201's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My Nut doesn't like it, (she wants solid food) but I have one or two per week...usually for my first "meal" of the day, after exercise. I've tried many different ones, threw away a plenty. I like to make my own. Whey Protein/PB2/almond milk/ice in the magic bullet. I'll push the protein up to around 30-35 grams. More than that at once doesn't agree with my system. -
Since Jan 14th I've tracked calories/exercise just to see, I was curious. I average around 1800 calories per day, and exercise an avg of 700 per day during that time.

Port discomfort
catfish87 replied to Delightful521's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hopefully, its no big deal...maybe just a slight strain that will go away in a few days. I'm almost four years post banding and last Wednesday, my port area was SORE....I went to six flags amusement park Tuesday, lol....rode every ride I wanted to. Bumpy roller coasters got me good! -
I didn't personally have any damage, but it's pretty significant in the area....I was in the basement of a casino when the twisters came through. Thats a great goal...5-6 times a week! Biking in April was good for me @ 475 miles/38 hours...May wasn't as good 341 miles/25 hours. But a couple of trips/vacation/etc and I burned some calories walking, and other activities during those trips. June goal for me = avg 4 days per week cycling. with a target minimum of 476 miles ( 1 more mile than April ) I really wanna see the 199# by end of month....we shall see!
