    Alcohol

Not a stupid question at all. Its discussed all the time on here. The beer I drink is carbonated, and I don't have issues with it. Carbonation: There are some who will say that its forbidden after banding. And some who say "as much as you want".

  5. Interesting article. http://shine.yahoo.com/healthy-living/5-reasons-skip-breakfast-142000450.html 5 Reasons to Skip Breakfast By Details Magazine | Healthy Living – 4 hours ago Once considered the foundation of any healthy diet, the morning meal may now be negotiable. The belief that we won't have our get-up-and-go unless we down our bowl of Cheerios has turned the concept of eating upon rising into a die-hard dietary rule. Original research on whether breakfast made an impact on health did find that healthier people ate breakfast. But as we know, data alone doesn't always tell the whole story. "Lots of people who skip breakfast or practice intermittent fasting are healthy too," says Dr. John Berardi, co-founder of Precision Nutrition. "About 85% of the clients we work with eat breakfast and tend to follow a guideline of eating small, frequent meals throughout the day, but that's largely to help them learn to practice healthier eating habits. If you're a person who regularly makes good nutritional choices, then eating breakfast is more negotiable." The Virility Diet - What to Eat for Better Sex In fact, skipping that first meal may lead to some real benefits-from possibly losing a few pounds to increasing your level of anti-aging growth hormone. And don't worry, your metabolism won't suffer. Eating small meals throughout the day, starting with breakfast, isn't necessary to stimulate metabolism, says Berardi, who co-authored an extensive study review on meal frequency for the International Society of Sports Nutrition. His suggested revision to the dictate: Breakfast is optional. Hard-and-fast rules don't allow for much mindfulness, anyway-and that's an integral part of any nutritional approach. So if you love how breakfast gets you going, feel free to stick with that routine, but if you're not a morning person, there's no harm in forgoing food first thing. Foods That Will Make You Look Younger Here, Berardi's 5 reasons to skip breakfast: 1. It's not required to boost metabolism. The idea that metabolism slows radically in response to not eating certain meals in a single day just isn't accurate. The amount of calories you're taking in and the composition of those calories-Proteins, carbs, and fats-are really what impact metabolism. 2. It may lead to eating less overall. If you skip breakfast you can eat fewer, larger meals beginning later in the day, rather than six smaller meals throughout the day, which may be less satisfying. This can lower your total caloric intake for the day and may lead to weight loss. 3. There's a payoff even if you're only an occasional skipper. Intermittent fasting reduces insulin levels, so you can actually increase your insulin sensitivity for better blood sugar management. At the same time, your body will release more growth hormone, which helps to preserve lean tissue and burn fat tissue. 4. It can help lower your total carb intake for the day. Most of us are over-carbed. We eat too many refined carbs, too little Protein, and too much fat. Skipping breakfast can steer you away from the typical high-carb breakfast foods (toast, oatmeal, Cereal, pancakes) that may trigger an insulin response that kicks you out of fat-burning mode. 5. It can help you tune in to your body. You just might feel better sipping Water with lemon or a green juice instead of forcing down food first thing every day. If you're one of many people who feel nauseous early in the day, you're better off listening to your body's cues. Sure, you're co-workers come into the office, bagels with cream cheese in hand, but at the end of the day (and the beginning), you want to figure out what works best for you.

    Mad at myself.

Healthy and skinny people eat cookies. Don't fret over a cookie or dessert treat occasionally. To me. ... that's what's so great about my band now. I can have anything I want. Just much less of it.

Exercise needs to become a daily task

Congrats on your amazing success Jim! I read a good article a couple months ago and posted a link to it on here. If I can find it, I'll repost it. It discussed not worrying about some long term fitness goal, but just concentrating on your progress today. If we concentrate on what we do today...the long term goals will come. Heres a quote from it. ""Einstein didn't think he was intelligent, because as his intellect expanded so did his ability to comprehend how much there is to know. Exercise works the same way. As you become fit, you become more aware of higher standards of fitness. Identifying yourself in the scale of being fit can be the cause of depression that will cause you to quit. You must not think about a future state of fitness you want to obtain. You must only think of physical motion in the moment. You must develop sets of physical motion without setting a goal of obtainment. You just do it as a ritual. You don't think about the time involved. You don't become over exhilarated. You just do it." http://drsimpson.net/fitness/aeobics/aerobics.htm

    is my band too tight?

You mention sometimes you can sit and eat everything on your plate. Hearing that, I wouldn't think you are too tight, but learning this new restriction level, and new eating habits like chewing more, smaller bites, eating less. How long ago was that last fill you mention? It can take some time for us to adjust...at least it did for me. And some of us don't "eat" breakfast anymore. Of course if in doubt, consult with your doctor. Best wishes.

    FIRST FILL- Little Confused

I wouldn't suggest trying to get a fill every week, at least once your close to the green zone. My experience, it took AT LEAST two to three weeks for me to learn the new restriction level. I had to adjust, once I got close. I was EATING too much...too fast. But the band DOES help with this. As far as the band providing restriction..... You'll hear differing OPINIONS about restriction, as should be expected. So here's my experience, after I got to the GREEN ZONE, very similar to what you will find on this site ( http://www.lapband.c...-about-lapband/ )...from the maker of the LAPBAND. 1. The LAP-BAND® System reduces your stomach's capacity, restricting the amount of food you are able to eat at one time. "Restricting the amount of food you are ABLE to eat at one time." BUT, it was not that way until I had adequate restriction...for me. Once I got close, it was a VERY small tweak in adjustment that made a BIG difference. And I've never had an unfill, due to being too tight. Best wishes for your continued success.

    Help! Fills

According to your surgeons profile, he has three years of experience..... You say hes using fluoro, so hopefully you'll get there soon. It is not real uncommon to hear folks needing to get to to the higher end of "capacity" of their band....some even have more.
  16. catfish87

    Help! Fills

Hmmm... Look at what you said. 1. You eat small portions, and you feel hungry all day long. 2. No restriction, but you've had so many fills. 3. You don't feel like yor doctor fills you correctly. 4. You eat healthy AND exercise, and "nothing"....no results. Seems its time to get to the green zone, because you are not there now...reading what you wrote. BUT you can get there. I'd have a VERY serious conversation with your doctor about why you are a year and a half post op and not there yet. Maybe a fill using fluoroscopy would help? To make sure all is well with your band, placement, etc. Thats my suggestion. Best wishes...and Never, Ever give up!
  17. catfish87

    What's your green zone?

I'm always hesitant to say cc #'s because they really aren't a indication of adequate restriction, speaking from EXPERIENCE. But I completely understand why people ask about CC's.....because, unfortunately, most don't use fluoroscopy on a regular basis. They guess. But the number answer is this: I started to "feel in this zone" about 8.2cc's. And over the last year or so, have tweaked it up 0.2 at a time to where I now am at 9cc's. I think I'm done...I KNOW I'm happy. Pastor O: About 4 seconds into the video you should be able to see the small stream of dark contrast material pass through my band opening.

    What's your green zone?

Mine looks like this. It took a while to fine tune it....but so nice now. Hang in there. It gets much better.
  19. catfish87

    Pills/Capsules, problems???

I rarely take any meds....but if I need to, I can take a pill the size of a 200mg motrin/advil without much difficulty....just one at a time with some coffee or something.

    Tough fills

Hi! All my fills are done using fluoro now. Not really needed for finding my port, but to SEE everything inside. Congrats on getting back to your doctor. Best wishes Heres a link to the post showing what mine looked like. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/topic/173120-heres-what-my-restriction-level-looks-like/
  22. Are you eating too much because you're hungry often? Portion sizes increased, possibly indicating the need for an adjusment? Also, congrats on starting to exercise again, as that should help as well. Best wishes and Never, Ever give up!
