gaining weight after 6 yrs of surgery
catfish87 replied to craiga4274's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
THIS is something I always am interested in...longterm success or issues. Thanks for coming here to share your story. I'm glad you are making an appt with your surgeon to discuss and determine what has happened to cause the gain. One thing I hear when attending support group seminars from other types of WLS ( other than the band ) is that when they go back to thier surgeons, all they are ever told is DIET and EXERCISE....that's it. Nothing more to be said... or done to help. It is what it is... I hear it often. I'm so glad to know that I have another option. My surgery is adjustable!!! I look forward to hearing what your surgeon recommends. Best wishes and never, ever give up! -

One Year Surgiversary

WTG runner girl!!! You are doing fantastic! Congrats -
It'll be easy! I was nervous too!! But it was so painless....imagine a flu shot, if that. Depending on the method they use, it could vary. When I go now, if were gonna do an adjustment, they just have me stand up on a tilt table, insert the needle directly into the port, remove the saline that was in my band system ( to make sure there wasn't any missing ), Dr. looks at it to check the color, etc. Then he will add that back, plus any if needed......while WATCHING my restriction level on the monitor. That way he knows what my restriction level is. NO GUESSING. However, not all doc's do it this way.... Beings that it is your first adjustment, he/she will probably not "push the limits", which is a good thing. They may have you stay on liquids for some time, then progress as tolerated. Just follow their advice and guidance and you'll do fine. Come back tomorrow and let us know how it goes! Best wishes.

I hope you find some answers. My symptoms were similar to what you describe above. For my issue, I was treated for A/C joint arthritis with injections for appx two years. They helped for a while.... It got to the point where I couldn't pick up a gallon of milk. Then the MRI showed the tear in the rotator cuff. I ended up having surgery in the fall of 2010. I have NO pain in that shoulder now.

I don't lift Fiddle...but I did have rotator cuff surgery... Could that be a possibility?

today....I WALKED, outside behind the snowblower....UGGGGG! They're opening a new bridge across the Mississippi river at St. Louis this weekend. Saturday they are having a 6K run to commemerate the opening. Already have over 2500 people to sign up...(most won't show, they just wanted the medallion) Also, they recently added a bike "race".......REAL racing. National Crit riders of all classes supposed to be there. Should make for an interesting day....ice/snow/cold.....and 30+mph on skinny tires.....lol.

Vasovagal Syncope ( Fainting ) episode
catfish87 replied to catfish87's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't had any more significant issues since the one time. My PCP looked over the brain MRI, and found "no active processes"....whatever that means. Now I'm scheduled for a consult with a neurologist on the 13th....they looked over the MRI as well and weren't in any hurry to schedule me. So I'm not sure what we will do next.....stress test maybe. Thanks for checking on me, my bestie! -

Participation In Support Groups Proven To Improve Long-term Outcomes
catfish87 replied to Colleen Cook's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
My local support group meetings are a great way to meet up with other people who are either planning WLS or have been through it. I go often. ( work schedule doesn't always allow ) Usually its a NUT leading the discussions, talking about various topics related to food...as would be expected I suppose. Our meetings involve all types of WLS. Can be very interesting. Another thing I do occasionally is go to the PRE-op seminars....people just thinking about having the surgery. I sit in the back during the seminar....just watching and listening. Thinking that was me, back then. And I will stick around after the surgeon gets done with his presentation....just to chat. Seems like a lot of people enjoy talking to "alumni". -

Congrats on being off to a great start!! It takes some people more fills than others to reach proper adjustment of their band. And some, may get there with no fills. So just realize it could take some time. Awesome job on doing the C2K program...another thing that will definately help! I'd offer that if you have progressed to 5-6 days a week now, walking AND running, to make sure you go to a good RUNNING shoe store, somewhere that they will actually talk, discuss and watch you run. I didn't listen to so many people who told me to do that. And I started having significant OUTTER knee pain. While not the same location of pain as yours, mine was completely cured by getting different shoes. Once again, Kuddos to you for being off to a great start and having such a positive attitude.

Help..All restriction VANISHED
catfish87 replied to Daria Kennedy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Did your surgeon say all the Fluid ( CC's ) that was supposed to be in the band system was there, to help rule out a leak? Either way, I know what I'd be doing...fluoroscopy check to see if everything is correct. That will show, not guess, if your band is in the correct placement, etc, and they should be able to get you to a correct restriction level. Best of luck to you. -
Surgery on a Friday...back to work Monday
catfish87 replied to krps0930's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was actually pretty lucky I think...I didn't have any issues with the gas pains so many experience. I don't think I could have sat straight up in a regular chair, getting up and down as may be required for working, so soon after surgery. When I wasn't up walking about, I was in a recliner, feet up and watching TV. I have read from people on here over the years that went back to work in the similar timeframe you're talking about....with mixed results. The pain from surgery wasn't NEARLY as bad as I had anticipated. But once again...I'm all for taking the Rx meds given to me to help control it. They worked well for me.
