    One Week Out

Well, one week gone. WOW!!!! It has been an experience. I have had some ups and some downs. All in all, I do not regret my decision whatsoever. I will say it has been an experiencing. It is not something you should do unless you are truly serious about it. It is hard, but it is also the dream I have always had. I was finally at that point in my life where I haven't been before, and I knew I was finally ready to committ. I am very anxious to go to my first post op on the 26th. Since surgery on the 9th, I am 8 pounds down. I am on my way, and looking forward to my brand new life. Thanks for your support!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Hey Balletgirl I know where you are coming from. I just got banded on 3-9-09. So I am still recovering. In five days I am down 8 pounds. Good start. I understand the mental effect this can have on you. Before surgery I was so emotional and cried a lot. The thought of not eating this or that ever again, really played hell on my mind. Even now, as the swelling in the stomach is going down I am getting hungry again. I am wanting all those great tasting things I had before. Then I remember why I am doing this. I have to really hold myself back. It is not easy. I joined on this site about a week before surgery, and it has been great to read others stuff like yours. The only place I haven't really thought to be helpful is the chat room. Rarely chat about lapband or anything. Wish it was a little more along the support line, but hey. Well if you need someone to talk to feel free to contact me. I truly believe in having someone who has been through it to talk to. Best Wishes!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi, First Post!

Hi, it is great to hear stories from people farther out than myself. I was just banded on Monday the 9th. So far, day by day is getting better. Had to rough days, but all in all I am not regretting my decision. It is really great what you have done so far, and I am sure you will do even better. I know I am just new at this but I am looking forward to my new life. Thank you for sharing yours. Best Wishes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:scared2:
  5. granntj: even though the after involves a little pain, the hunger is way different for at least 4 days. I really didn't want to eat a lot. Even now I am just starting to get my desire to eat back. I just realize now that I am on the other side and things get better day by day. Everyone deals with it differently. You may not experience my pain, you may be up and running in three days. Keep your chin up and look at it in the whole, the benefits to this new journey. I am rather excited about my whole new life ahead of me. I would totally do it again. Best Wishes!!!!!!!!!!

    After Surgery

Band_Groupie, I did get stuff while in the hospital for nausea. It really helped during that time. If you take the vicodine, you won't have a full stomach, but try to take it with milk. You will be able to have cream of wheat or malt o meal, so take it with those. I am better now. I am on Tramadol, and am taking less each day. You will be good. Best Wishes!!!!!!

    After Surgery

Well, what can I say. I finally made it to surgery day. It was hard. The pre-op seemed bad. I am thankful I didn't have to do more than 3 days, but 3 days or 10 days, it was still hard. On the 9th I had surgery. I went in at 9:15 or about and was home by 4:00 pm. The first day (not night) wasn't to bad. I had a little morphin and vicodine to assist with that. It was that night that wasn't so pleasant. I didn't sleep and could not find a comfortable position. I stayed on the couch in a sitting position, and let me tell you, that is not comfortable. I was pretty miserable the fist night. I tried to walk around, because they really stress that, and and as the pain meds wore off the pain was substantial. I had taken some pain meds at home, and it made me very nauseas. Let me tell you, getting sick after this surgery is NOT a pleasant experience. It was aweful. So needless to say, I went without pain meds all night. The next day was the WORST. Be prepared. I called the nurse to explain my meds and they called in a different one. If meds make you sick, ask for Tramadol. It is easier than Vicodine on the stomach. So Tuesday the day after surgery, was the hardest so far. I had let the pain get so far out of control that nothing was good. I couldn't sleep, I wasn't hungry....NOTHING felt good. And let me tell you.... sitting on the couch really put a pain in my butt. Literally. Today, is the best since surgery. I finally go some sleep last night, and woke up feeling much better. They did say it would get better day by day. I am hoping tomorrow is even better. All in all, I don't regret my decision. If you asked me that on Tuesday around mid day I may have had a different answer. I know why I cose and I am just trying to look forward. Good Luck to all future banders, and let me give you a few things of advise: 1.) If you drink caffine or sugar, start getting off it way ahead of the pre-op diet. 2) Make sure you are really ready for this. 3.) Don't let the pain get out of control. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. I have been there and I can relate. Please stay strong. Keep your thoughts on the end result, what your goal is. I did the three day, and I truly believe other people should try it to see how hard it really is. I relied on this web site a lot for support. Keep going. It will be worth it. Best Wishes!!!!!!!!!
  9. I am still anxious, but all in all I don't regret it. I know there will days when I do regret it, but I know I have to stand strong and have the willpower. A strong support system is also key. If you ready you will be able to do it. I have those thoughts and there are times when I cry because I am scared of the new life style. But, I am ready. I made the committment, and I know that once I did that, I would be fine. Good luck and only you can decide if it is time for you. Best Wishes!!!!!!
  10. Hey, how are you doing? I am doing ok. I had a rough night last night but I took a shower today, and feel a lot better. Hope you are doing well.

  11. I don't know in that area, but I bet if you phoned my surgeons office, they maybe able to give you a referral. 303-861-1790-Dr.Brown. Amy is the office manager. Whatever you do make sure they are ASMBS- A center of excellence certified. I researched Dr.Brown with the AMA and found he had a good record. This web site might be able to help you in your area if you find someone in your area who has had it done. Be selective. Good luck!!!!
  12. I sure wish I hadn't had to pre-op diet. I would agree with your surgeon. I would have felt better getting to eat. Good luck. Hollar if you need anything.
  13. Thank you for all your support. I really appreciate it.

  14. Thank you for all your support. I really appreciate it.

  15. Hey, welcome. I hope you enjoy following my journey. I appreciate your support.

  16. If you want this, DON'T give up. I cannot believe that lady tried to talk you out of this???? That is wrong. There are a lot of people who don't believe in this and they should respect your decision to have it done and keep their mouths closed. That always makes me mad. My brother, who is in nursing, is one of those who doesn't believe in it, but even though that is his opinion, he supports my choice. It is a tough choice for us and the least people could do is respect what we decide. This is a tough decision as it is and the last thing we need is negativity. Well I wish you the best. If you need anything hollar. We all need support and I have found this site to be a great source for that. I have met a gal who lives less than a mile from me. It is great. Good luck and you will be nerous and you may experience some pain, but it will be worth it. Good Luck!!!!!!

  17. Oh you too. I wish you all the best. It is a brand new journey in our life. I know you will do great.

  18. Trulyleaves, good luck. I have already begun my new journey. I know every surgery is different, but make sure if you have pain, keep it under control. Don't let it get ahead of you. You will do fine. No matter what happens, keep your chin up and try to think about the end result. I would do it again, no matter what pain I have felt. This web site has been a terrific source of support. Meet people. See if you can find people in your area that you can buddy with. I have actually found someone who lives less than a mile from me on this site. Good luck and if you need anything hollar.

  25. I can relate. Been there, but I wasn't able to have the protein shakes. I would have killed for one of those. I mix my protein powder in a carnation breakfast. It isn't bad. Stay tough. It doesn't last forever, and keep looking to the end results. I have been in a lot of pain the day after surgery, but today is better. Keep the pain under control. Vicodine was too much for me so they gave Tramadol. Move around and keep the stiffness away. You will do fine. If you start to feel like giving up, use this site. There are a lot of great people here.
