Jason, Keep it up. I started going to the Gym as well. I started 3 weeks ago and have missed only one day. Good idea in getting a personal trainer involved. I have one as well. He motivates me when I think that there is no more left for me to give. He has taught me how to use the different equipment in the Gym. I thought I would stick out like a sore thumb, being overweight and inexperienced with the equipment. But the people at the Gym have been nothing but wonderful. Keep increasing your walking, little by little. Soon you will be amazed at yourself. Keep telling yourself what your motivation is..... to be healthy, be around for your family, experience new horizons....... You can do this!! Good luck and keep on moving. Heather:thumbup:

Newly banded in Minneapolis

Deb, I am sooooo excited. Received the call today from the Surgeon's office. My insurance approved the surgery. I see the surgeon on 5-8. And if I am down the 12lbs (which I have been doing well at) he will schedule my surgery. And he is about 2 weeks out, so looks like end of MAY!!!! Sorry, had to brag. My friends are all happy for me and so is my family. But it is nice to be able to tell someone that has gone through with the surgery and knows what all it takes to get to that point. Will keep in touch, Heather -
Saying a prayer for you...... I am in the same boat as you. My paperwork was submitted to insurance last week..... now the WAIT. My fingers are crossed that you will soon receive your day. Good Luck, Heather

Hi Deb. I am from Minnesota as well. I am about and hour north. My information is all with the insurance company right now. They have had it for a week. So I am just WAITING for the approavl and the surgery date. Good luck on your weight loss. What Hosp did you go through? I am using Unity in Fridley. Heather -
Are you familiar with the MMPI? The testing I took lasted 2.5 hours. It was some yes and no questions and some rating type questions. Go in and be honest. The doctor is seeing if you are ready for the commitment of the Lap Band and to see if you need any further assistance. I was real nervous about, the fear of the unknown. But it was not that bad. Finally here to introduce myself
hsj replied to paisleypea's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello. Looks like you are doing what you need to be doing. I would not worry. If the Surgeon and your Primary MD have given the thumbs up, chances are you will qualify. They would not want to spend their time writting up the requests to insurance if you did not meet the criteria. Keep your chin up. Your day will be here before you know it. Good work on the 6 months of the pre dieting!!!!:rolleyes2: Take Care, Heather -
 It has been a while since I posted last. Many doctor appointments and tests later. Today I recelved the call from my surgeon's nurse and she pushed all my info on to the Surgeon so he can write my insurance company. She said in 2 to 4 weeks I will have my surgery date. Needed to loose 12lbs prior to surgery and I weighed in and am down 6.5lb...... 5.5lbs to go. Just wanted to share with others that have been or are going through the same thing I am. HEATHER

I just had my Surgical Consult, my first appt. After and exam and speaking with the surgeon for an hour, I was able to set up appts with the Dietician, Nurse Consultant, and follow up with my Primary doctor for a Sleep Study. I am just over the 40 for BMI and am planning on going for a Sleep Study to add Sleep Apnea to my diagnosis. I am sure I have it, my husband has witnessed it. With the high BMI and the Sleep Apnea my Surgeon will write a recommendation to my insurance company (Medica) and then hopefully the approval will come. I was told it could take up to 4 weeks for the answer. Heather

Hello from Las Vegas - March 12th is my surgery date
hsj replied to Shanyab's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello. My name is Heather and I live in Minnesota. I am 35 and have 4 kids and struggled with the weight after the babies. I just had my Surgical consult on Friday. And left the clinic with several appts for this month. Then will wait for the insurance approval. With your approval by insurance have you set up your surgical date? I am new in the past day to this site as well. But it sounds like people are very supportive. Heather:thumbup: -
My name is Heather, I am a mother of 4 from MN. Just have my first Surgical Consult yesterday for the Adjustable LapBand. I have struggled with my weight all my teen and adult life. My husband introduced me to the idea of a Forum, I have never done this. I am also a nurse, working in Long term care and with Hospice patients. Sure seems like a lot of doctoring for the approval of the procedure. I am both nervous and excited about this whole idea of surgery.

Thanks for the information. I have Medica. I have a Nurse Clinician appt, Dietician, Sleep Study and Psych appt all this month. A Medica Rep. stated it would take them up to 4 weeks to approve once the Surgeon writes a recommendation. Yesterday I met with the Surgeon for the first time. Lots of thoughts raced through my head. Part being, how I let myself get to where I am now. Did you go through that? If you don't mind sharing, what was your thoughts. I am so looking forward to setting up a weight ticker like I see the others post. That is so cool!

Those of us who have decided not to tell.
hsj replied to Lady Lap Band's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my surgical consult and so am in the early stages of doctoring. And I have also decided not to tell. My husband and sisters know. Just because I want those closest to me to be able to support me on this quest. I think it is a personal decision if you choose to tell or not tell. People might question you once they see the weight coming off and want to know your secret. So be ready with a reply. Keep going forward.... and do not look back. -
Thank You. I am going through Unity Hosp in Fridley. How big a process did you have to go through to get insurance approval?
