You guys are doing so great! Surgery in 2 days for me. At this point I'm not looking forward to it, just want it over with. I'm scared as hell about going under the knife too.
  4. I'm into my second week of my pre-op diet. Here's a daily menu: meal replacement shake for breakfast, another for lunch plus a light yogurt or fat-free cottage cheese, a large salad with 4 oz lean Protein for dinner (no corn, potatoes, starchy vegs) and sometimes a final snack of a sugar-free popsicle. However, since I started 9 days ago I've only lost 2 pounds. I cheated once with 5-6 whole wheat crackers and Peanut Butter. That was last weekend. Since then I've kept to it. And, I really thought I'd have lost a lot more weight. I see others talking about losing 10-15 pounds during their pre-op diets. What's going on? This is depressing and scary. If I can't lose weight with this, how is the surgery going to help?

Not Losing Weight On Pre-Op Diet?

No, no exercise. I barely have the energy to take care of my daughter, let alone run 3 miles. lol. So, I applaud you! Work and taking care of the house are consuming all energy-stores I have. Just think it's odd that others lose so much on the same pre-op (without excercise) and I'm losing next to nothing. I know everyone's different. Just feeling disappointed.

thanks! hoping it's short-lived and doesn't move into my chest. I'll call my surgeon Monday if it's not better or if HAS moved into my chest.
  7. How did it go? I'm in the same boat. 6 days out from surgery and woke up with the first signs of a cold. I'm freaking out.

holy crap, I cannot catch a break! my 17 month old daughter has had a cold all week and guess who now has it? Yup, 6 days before surgery and I have a cold. I'm hoping I can rest it off this weekend. If I still feel bad Monday I'll call the surgeon. I'm so upset and hoping this doesn't mean I can't have surgery next week.

UGH! I need advice. My surgeon told me yesterday to stop taking my diabetes meds 5 day s before surgery. My primary doc told me this morning NOT to stop taking them. THey don't present a bleeding risk or anything. SO, wtf do I do? Did you all have to stop your diabetes meds before surgery? I know if I call my surgeon he'll tell me what he told me yesterday, obviously.

what were your glucose levels like, if you don't mind me asking? I don't know my A1C.

So, I'll be one of the last sleeved here, obviously, with a date of 10/31. I'm nervous like crazy. I have an appointment with my surgeon this afternoon. I'm afraid he's going to cancel surgery because my glucose levels are high or for some other reason. At the same time I'm scared of dying. I'm terrified. I'm a wreck! But, I know this is the right decision. Just struggling right now. Seeing/reading how so many of you are doing is helping though. I can do this!
  13. My doc says 1.5-2 hours. He also does a liver biopsy and uses DaVinci. I'm having my gallbladder removed as well, so I'm assuming I'll be towards the 2 hour mark.
  14. Thanks for the advice! When were you sleeved and how are you doing now?
  15. I was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a week and a half ago. Started my pre-op diet last Wednesday (2 Meal Replacement shakes and sensible meal.) Nutritionist and doctor said that most people see a big reduction in their glucose levels and some even go off their meds during the diet. Mine are still high. Anyone else have similar situation? The nurse practitioner even told me to stop the metformin now due to a bleeding risk during surgery. (?) Seems odd, never heard that about metformin before.
  16. Thank you. I have my pre-op appointment with my surgeon this afternoon. I plan to ask him. I also have an appointment with my PCP (who diagnosed the diabetes) tomorrow AM. I'm definitely hoping for more guidance. The high numbers are scaring me. I'm also concerned he won't do the surgery if my levels are this high. Hopefully an unfounded worry, but I'm an expert worrier!
  17. Around 315. This AM it was 360. I am following the diet to the letter (getting the no-sugar added shakes), not cheating, taking my metformin 2x a day. My levels generally get lower during the day, down into the mid 200-s. I did record a couple at 190 this weekend in the evening. I've only been testing about a week. And on the metformin for 1.5 weeks. Of course, my levels could have been CRAZY high before I was diagnosed and they may actually be coming down. But, it just doesn't seem like that's happening.
  18. Different surgeons order different tests. I had my pre-op testing a couple days ago. Here's what I had: Abdominal ultrasound (where they found gallstones!) Chest x-ray EKG Blood and Urine work-up

Congrats Honey! Glad you're doing well. My buddy Quitaboo is having her surgery today! Hope she's doing well. and my pre-op isn't just liquids, so that's nice. I can have a piece of fruit, a yogurt, and a sensible dinner (or lunch) with 4 oz lean meat and as many veggies as I want.
  20. So, found out yesterday during my pre-op ultrasound that I have a lot of gallstones. The nurse practitioner I met with in my surgeon's office said I will have my galldbladder removed during my sleeve surgery. Have you had this done? If so, should I expect any other complications, a longer recovery, anything? I'm a bit nervous, but am glad it can all be done at once.

Congrats! I'm glad you're doing ok. Must be nice to be on the recovery side. I've had a wild week. Saturday my primary doc diagnosed me with diabetes and started me on metformin (which is evil, I have felt like crap on it.) Yesterday I had all of my pre-op testing and found out I have major gallstones so will have to have my gallbladder removed during surgery as well. And today I started my pre-op diet. I know this will all be worth it in the end, but right now, I'm just feeling so overwhelmed.

feeling the same way, Love! I'm terrified of surgery, first of all. And am scared sh*tless I'm going to fail at this too. I have my classes today to learn about pre-op, post-op, etc. Hoping that helps some with my anxiety.

oh man, I've been working on this surgery since January! I had a 6 month diet requirement (that was changed to 3 month midway and I never knew), then my original surgeon QUIT his practice and I had to find a new one and start the approval process all over again. I'm so ready for this to be over.
