Hint for drinking soda..
hkitty replied to CantB2noty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was never much of a soda drinker before and when I did rarely drink some it was Sprite or Orange soda, not a big fan of the cola and dark sodas, so I figured that not being able to have soda after the surgery would be no big deal. But I don't know if it's being told I can't, knowing I can't or whatever, but now I DESPERATELY want a diet orange Crush. Just like I had no issues with not drinking during meals, but now I really want to drink something while I'm eating! Crazy. -
I must say, I am rather quite annoyed. The RS Pres. is a friend of mine and she is in the book club I belong to. This book club is like family to us all. We all happen to be LDS but it is totally unrelated to the church. We are a small group and very selective of who we invite in, just because we are so close and share confidences. Well, another member had the Lapband surgery about a year before I did. And of course I would talk to her about it, kind of to the side. She brought it up during one of our meetings, which is okay. I wasn't sure if I was going to tell all of them, but like I said, they are family to me. But with the RS Pres, I told her very directly that she knows this about me as a friend, not as the RS Pres or a member of the church, and nobody is to be told. That was 6 months before I had the surgery. Now 7months later she told me that she told the bishop because he asked her if I was okay cause I missed a few meetings. She told him I had surgery and he asked her what for and she told him. I am really upset about this. She could have just said that I did have some stuff going on, but I was okay and that I did not want the church involved in it. Or even simply said I had surgery but didn't want to reveal anything else. I haven't told her how upset I am, and really don't have a desire to. But I don't want to be around her, including at church. I had gossip going around about me a couple years ago at church cause as good as the bishopric is, some people have trouble keeping their mouths closed, and now this makes me wonder again who is talking about me and who knows, when no one was supposed to. But I feel like crying when I think about it. (sorry if this is long! I had to get it out)

Because she's the Relief Society President. That's just the chain of command I guess.

What are the best protein drinks and why.
hkitty replied to msbrady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I got 3 tubs of the Isopure since the amount of protein is so good: Chocolate, Alpine Punch, and Unflavored. All nasty. The unflavored is supposed to be able to be added to any kind of drink, or other dish. I tried it with Crystal Light, and the milky whey taste is so strong. I do add it to oatmeal, mashed potatoes; foods that have milk in them, and it's okay. But I can't drink it, even in milk drinks. Then I tried the Nectar mixes. Some one said they don't have the bad whey taste. But they do. So I'm back to the Sugarfree Carnation Instant Breakfast. Not wonderful, but much better than any protein shake I've tried. It has 13 grams protein, which is very good, but I was hoping for more like the protein shakes have. Oh well! -
I know there's a 10+ page on here that probably has everybody's name, but I am going to put another on here. I'm fairly new, and I'd like to know who on here is LDS. I'm one! hkitty

Thanks for your opinion on this. I've been looking for a good one. I've been using Isopure, but every flavor, even the unflavored seems to have a milky aftertaste which is really gross to me, esp when I'm drinking a fruit punch flavor. I know the whey proteins are taken from milk byproducts, but I thought using the pure isolates were supposed to help take away that milky aftertaste. So did you detect any of that with the Nectar? Where can you buy it?

How are there people on here so chipper the day after surgery?
hkitty posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cause I feel like crap! I'm not regretting the surgery or anything like that, but I feel like crap. So I totally do not understand those so happy and bright the day after. I'm in pain and certainly in no mood to think of how wonderful this could be. But like I said, I'm not regretting and I know it will pass. But, waaaa! I don't feel good. Guess I just want to complain for the moment. Thanks! :tt2: -
Guess I'm the only one, and those that have viewed it are just curious.

TXAmy you totally made me LOL, thanks! Niterun, I have the OnQ as well, and I don't feel like it's doing anything!:tt2: Hubby says if I didn't have it the pain would probably be worse, he's probably right. I am walking around, but definitely spending most of the time in bed, I like that much more! I'm not glad that many of you went through pain too, but glad I'm not alone. -
My surgery is tomorrow, yea! So my question is, do most people have gas pain that is severe enough to need to take an OTC medicine? I've never had to before, but I want to know if I should go buy some if it's something that most Lapband pts go through. Thanks.

Hi there, I'm going to add on here too, even though it's been a bit since this thread has been active. I just discovered there was an LDS thread! I'm 29 (but will turn the dreaded 30 in less than a month!). I've been a member for about 10 years, converted while in college. I've been married almost 9 years. And I've been fat as soon as I left high school. My surgery is tomorrow. I have a good friend in my ward who went through this about 18 months ago, but otherwise am not telling others in my ward family. I have my MSW and am a clinical social worker, but am between jobs at the moment. My calling is activities chairman, and everybody tells me that my activities have been the best they've gone to!

Any Advice on Getting "Unstuck" Quickly?
hkitty replied to Holabbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The papaya enzymes do not hurt the esophagus, but drinking the meat tenderizer mixed with water will, so stay away from that. Health food stores carry the papaya enzyme, I've also found it in regular grocery stores as well. -
It's going to be different for everybody cause of what the insurance covers. I think mine covers 90% (not for certain). And I had to pay my portion on the appt before the surgery, it was about $320. But I think that there might be an additional charge from the hospital itself after the surgery.

Hello all, My Surgery is scheduled for May 8th! Very close now. I had my lab work and testing on Wednesday last week, and the scheduler called me today to tell me there were abnormalities on my EKG and I had to get clearance from a cardiologist and my surgery could be postponed. So I go tomorrow to a cardiologist and I think I'll be doing a stress test. I'm so upset right now. I almost don't care about any of the heart issues at the moment, it's just taken so long to get to the surgery I'd be so upset if it got postponed or canceled.
-
Good news! Everything's fine, and the surgery will go as scheduled on the 8th! The cardiologist didn't find anything wrong at all. Thanks everyone for being so nice and supportive. This board has really amazed me with that.

Yes, my friend said pretty much the same thing, I wouldn't enjoy the surgery much if I died on the table. I know, I know.

MAY 2009 Bandsters - shout out!!!
hkitty replied to ibelieve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yea for May! I'm on the 8th, it's quickly approaching. I quit my job in December because it was so terrible. I didn't think I'd still be out of work, but maybe it's a little bit of divine intervention so I don't have to worry about rushing back to work before I'm ready or what I'd tell my boss. At least that's the way I'm choosing to look at it! -
May 8th for me. Getting nervous!

Hello, I'm in Fredericksburg. I haven't been banded yet, still jumping through the hoops. My last nutritionist appt for my 6 month supervised diet is on Monday, so hopefully I won't have to wait too much longer. I'm going to Dr. Brengman of Richmond Surgical Group. Glad there's some members here in the VA group.

Im getting banded March 19th!!!!!!

Wonderful news! I don't even have a date set yet, but it seems like the most stressful part of this process is the waiting to know. Congratulations. -
6 month supervised diet
hkitty replied to Oceannites's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nutritionist said that the insurance companies want to see you lose wait during these 6 months to show that you can commit yourself to the new lifestyle change you are going to have to make after the surgery as well. She said she's had people drop below the minimum BMI after the 6 months, but the surgery was still approved because of what the BMI was when the people first started. -
I live near the mall, on the Fred/Spotsy border. Suzanne and kiz, that's what I'm trying to keep in mind, that once the surgery's over, it's much easier dealing with the office. And if the doctor does a great job, then why worry over these details. It's just frustrating in the moment. (Esp this moment since no one has yet to call me back today!).

Niterun, My story seems similar to what you went through. I began going to Dr. Stelmack's office at MWH, but I thought they were great there. But then the hospital closed the program at the end of December! I was 3 months through with my 6 month supervised diet/exercise program. So I went to Bluepoint Surgical Group out of Potomac Hospital. I too was outraged at their extra charges. As if all of this process wasn't expensive enough. They claimed it was common charges and almost all the Bariatric surgery places charged them. MWH didn't and neither does Richmond Surgical. So I just had my first appt with Richmond Surgical Group (Dr. Brengman) on Monday (2/23/09). I went there cause I have 2 friends who have been very pleased with the doctors. I haven't had enough contact to form an opinion on the doctor, but have been very frustrated, to the point of tears when I call. My last supervised diet/nutrition appt is next week and I need to get them some info, and I'd rather not hold off sending all the stuff for insurance approval a day longer than necessary. But when I call I get a total run around. If I had time, I probably would try to look at another place. But I'm taking comfort in the fact that I have heard nothing but good about the doctors themselves.
