Kaiser Richmond Pre-op
irkenpanda replied to 123008's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, My name is Shannon and I live in South Sacramento (originally from Elk Grove) and I will be going through Richmond. I actually already went to the orientation about a year ago and felt I wasn't ready yet. Well I am now. I spoke with Robin yesterday and she said to get "re-activated" I will have to get a current weight into the computer and then start working on the diet and to quit smoking - 2nd weigh in 3 weeks later and then call them back to get appointments. I am mostly just nervous about where to even start on the pre-op diet. Funny, I have done WW and a billion other diets my whole life and for some reason, I feel over-whelmed on where to begin. I thought about planning every moment of the day from the get go but is that a good plan? Any suggestions? P.S. I will be at the Point West support meeting next Saturday in case anyone else will be able to make it. -

I have an appointment for the "weight loss surgery overview" class at Kaiser South Sacramento the first week of April and my BMI is currently 38. I know Kaiser is pretty strict and since I don't have any co-morbidities that I can tell (all my bloodwork came back ok), my BMI should be 40 for me to qualify. So dare I even say it, should i gain some weight?? 10 pounds would put me up to 40 BMI. I feel terrible thinking this but what do I do? Wait another 5 years until I really am that heavy or heavier? Has anyone been in this situation? If so, some advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!!:w00t:

Thank you!! I really haven't been weighing myself very much so I am just hoping and eating without a care but not carelessly. -

It is stupid!! Lol. I know that if I don't, I'll be right back to where I am only heavier. And probably not in 5 years, more like one or two. I just don't want to waste the time and I've been struggling forever - so tired of it. The response you gave makes me feel better and it's nice to know I am not the only one. Thank you so much. -
Many questions regarding Kaiser
irkenpanda replied to irkenpanda's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you. I changed my PCP and saw my new one today. She said that she doesn't make the decision and she has to have me go to the "weight management overview" class first which I have scheduled for next week. So does that sound right or not? I am also going to have blood tests done tomorrow that she set up. If the class is indeed the first step, then what is next? -
I noticed a lot of info here on Kaiser's program but I still have a few questions. I am not banded and looking seriously into getting it done. I have asked my PCP about it like a year ago and he basically gave me the cold shoulder and told me there is nothing he can do and referred me to weight watchers. Been there done that, like a billion times. I constantly lose and gain back then same 15-30 pounds every year. I have had weight issues my whole life, along with everyone in my family. Should I ask him again and keep pushing the issue or request a new PCP?? Also, I am 5'5 and 216 lb so that puts me just over the 35 BMI mark so I don't know if Kaiser will even consider me. I will call member services tomorrow to find out. I am also in Northern CA (Sacramento). Thank you to anyone and everyone in advance for your help.
