10 CC band- How many CCs to get restriction?
Marlluvia replied to Leona06's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have a 9.75 cm band with 4cc max. I went to get a fill on Monday 8/21 and my doctor didn't want to give me a fill. I have lost 18 lbs since surgery on 7/11. I feel like I can eat anything, don't feel much restriction. My doc would only give me .5 cc in my band, he said I am losing fine. I disagree with him and want more restriction. I don't go back to see him until 10/17/06. Will restriction come or do you feel it right away? I was able to drink water with no problem after the fill. -
It sounds like you may be too tight. Call your doctor and see what he tells you. I had my first fill on Monday and my doctor would only give me .5 cc, I feel no restriction.

Hey everyone, glad to hear we are all progressing nicely. I had a fill yesterday and it was not really that bad. My doctor did not want to do a fill, he said I was losing fine, but I told him I needed one because my hunger was really increasing. I took me a whole five minutes to convince him to do a fill. I received .5 cc in the band. Anyway, I was on clear liquids for 24 hours, and then to regular food. I don't feel any different as far as restriction is concerned. I was hungry all day, but managed to survive the 24 hours without incident. Will restriction come eventually? I have read here that it can take a couple of days for the fill to set in.

I'm a little concerned because on Friday I began to feel some discomfort on my right side. I was banded on 7/11, with no complications. The pain is uncomfortable when I move around or turn in a certain direction, but by no means excurciating. The area does not feel warm nor do I have any fever. I have not had a fill yet, and can eat just about anything. I sometimes get stuck, but it quickly passes. I'm concerned about slippage, is this a possibility? Any replies would be appreciated.

Thanks for responding Sherry. I have not vomited, but I did begin solids about a week before I was told. I know this was wrong, but that was about two weeks ago, why would I get pain now? I notice that the pain is more when I bend forward like to pick something off the ground. It right in the middle of my stomach on the right side. I go to the doctor tomorrow, so I will ask. Thanks again.

OMG, so everybody has the toots! How funny, and here I thought I was special. But seriously, I'm glad I found this thread b/c I was going to complain to my doctor at my next visit. LOL.

I was banded on 7/11 and have not lost anymore weight after the initial 13 lbs. I am just happy that I haven't gained. My appetite is getting bigger as the days go by and I'm scheduled to have a fill on 8/21. I hope this helps with the hunger.

I haven't tried the Vaniqa cream. Did you go to your doctor for it, or dermatalogist? Does insurance cover it? I know it's expensive.

I haven't had it done yet, but will definetely do it. I have PCOS and have facial hair on upper lip, chin, and cheeks. I'm tired of waxing, plucking, nairing, etc. I haven't tried shaving b/c I always thought it would grow in heavier. Anyway, when I spoke with laser center, they quoted me $200 per session. This would cover: upper lip, chin, and jawline area.

I was banded on 7/11 and still have gas. It is unbelievable how much gas I have, and it's uncomfortable. I get so bloated because most of the time I can't pass it. I can occasionally belch and if I lay on my side, it helps also. However, most of the time I'm in public, which makes for a miserable time. Sorry if this is gross. Just wanted to tell my story.

Piscis here, a Jekyll and Hyde sign, if you know what I mean! LOL.

I was already this way before the band. Any nasty smells would just make me sick to my stomach. I have not had an encounter with a nasty smell since being banded, so it will be interesting to see what reaction I'll have when I do get a whiff(sp) of something unpleasant.

KMO, glad to hear you're doing better today. The day after surgery, the hospital personnel brought me liquids, but to my surprise, I could only take a couple of spoonfuls, and became nauseated. This feeling goes away though, I think it's mainly from all the drugs that are in you body. That's what the nurse told me anyway. Welcome to bandland.

Hey Chris, I know what you mean with those gas pains. They are awful to say the least. I took GasX chewables for almost two weeks, I still do, but only occasionally. They will pass, but might take awhile. Good luck!

Glad to see everyone is doing awesome. I am 2 weeks post op and feeling pretty good. Can't say I've been four wheeling like Sherri, but definetely feel alot better than two weeks ago. Down 14 lbs from surgery date and that feels really good. I only hope I am able to continue to lose. I saw my doctor yesterday and he wants me to begin mushies for two weeks, then go to solids. I don't have any problem with getting food down, mushies seem to go right through. I do, however, fill up with what I eat. I'm currently eating about 1/2 cup of food per meal. After eating, I tend to feel hungry again after about two hours. Well, everyone keep up the good work and let's keep each other motivated.

Congrats JMO, it sounds like everything went fine. I'm so happy for you, and welcome to bandland. You will do well. I did not really feel like eating until about a week post-op, but I did drink some protein shakes and some soup on occasion. Also, I had gas for about a week and a half; hope yours clears up before then.

Hi everyone, I'm eleven days post-op and started feeling some pain around the port area and feels warm. No redness though and the scar seems to be healing fine. As for hunger, I am getting hungrier everyday, but I control myself from overdoing it. My two week follow up is July 24, and I hope my doctor will let me begin mushies.
-
Good luck to everyone that is being banded in the next two days, I wish you a save and speedy recovery. My prayers will be with everyone. I am 8 days post op and feeling a better. I am so tired of liquids it's not even funny. I need to be on liquids at least until my 2 week appt, which is next Monday. I continue to have gas despite only eating liquids and taking Gas-X almost constantly. Anyone else have this problem?

I still have steristrips on two of my incisions. Mine itch also, but I think it's part of the healing process. I did take my steri strips off yesterday, only the port still has them on. I don't want to take those off because it looks kind of bloody in there. I was banded on July 11, so one week post-op today.

Has anyone on this website heard of Texas True Choice, it will be my new ins. carrier effective in the fall. Do they cover bariatric surgery? If you know anything about this carrier, please let me know. My surgery is already covered, I would need aftercare for fills, or complications. I will try to call the 1*800 number, but I'm not sure they will give me info, since technically, I am not an official member on their plan.

Thanks Endocollector, what you stated makes sense. I have not gotten around to calling them yet, since I just had surgery, still a little sore. I have group insurance and basically my employer will give them continuos coverage up until August of this year. My employer is supposed to be mailing out information about them sometime soon. I'll e-mail if I have any more questions after receiving info. from employer. Thanks again.

Dr. C, I was banded two days ago and I feel like I need to belch, but nothing comes up, instead it seems to explode in my chest? It really hurts, is this just gas, or something else? Also, when lying down I don't feel it, but as soon as I sit up, the pain is there again. Thank you in advance.

Hey Funny, I was banded on July 11, so right behind you. I know what you mean when you talk about uncomfortable feeling. I didn't sleep the first two nights, but did sleep good on the 3rd night. I took some Tylenol before bed and I think this seemed to work. I get gas pains worse than anything else. How long do these last? Gas pains that is.

:angry :angry :angry :angry I have to vent this morning because I couldn't even sleep last night. I will try to be brief about it. Yesterday, I had a pre-op appt with doc. My mother babysat my kids and I was really feeling good after the appt because I spoke with three patients in the waiting room at my doc's office and they had excellent results with their weight loss. Anyway, I mentioned to my mother and she began to lecture me about how I had to take care of the things I ate after surgery, otherwise, I would get fat again. Mind you, my mother went into great detail about the band, restriction, etc. I had never been this specific about the band with her, so how did she know all these details? I assumed my sister had briefed her about the surgery, and that's ok. My immediate family were the only ones that knew about my surgery, or so I thought. I specifically told my mother not to tell anyone about it, and now I find out that she told a relative, who briefed her about my surgery. To make matters worse, when I asked her about it she denied it and became very defensive. I am hurt and very angry because I trusted my mother and now everyone in town knows I'm having sugery even before I've had it done. Now I feel like I'm going to be under a magnifying glass. Any comments on this? I don't think I'm wrong for feeling this way.

How soon after surgery did you feel hungry?
Marlluvia replied to div95008's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I only 2 days post op and already feel hunger. The liquids help, but only for a short time, then my stomach starts to rumble again.
