Oh, I actually went to Shreveport to have it done. My insurance required it. I was banded by Dr. Merriman and he does not require a pre op diet. I believe that they do in texarkana though!

Worried...all feedback appreciated

Hey everyone. I was banded on 4/7/09. I have lost 19 lbs so far. I am taking in about 800-1000 calories a day. I am so worried that I am going to start losing my hair or become unhealthy bc i am not getting enough vitamins, minerals, and protein. How many grams of protein should I take in per day? What is the best protein shake and bar out there. Should I start taking a vitamin? I really havent been given any clear directions as exactly how much of all this to eat. Help!!!!!!!!! -
I was banded on 4/7/09 which was about 8 days ago. I was told that I can have cream soups with no chunks, pudding, jello- you know things like that. I have to admit that I ate some chunky food once today and had no probs getting it down. I chewed it very well and had no probs with it. Can anyone tell me what the exact reason is that they say no chunks? Why must it be basically soup and stuff if it goes down fine? I know that there is a reason for it!!! Did anyone else out there eat food food before they were supposed to? I know I need to stick to the plan...just searching for support.

Getting Banded April 16th, Any Tips or Advice?
jenhrvy20 replied to WishUponABand's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Steph! Don't be nervous at all. You will not remember a thing. It goes very smoothly and you will do great! The pain is bearable. Not fun, but a lil pain meds will do you just fine. I was actually just banded on 4/7/09. I have already lost 19 lbs. YAY! I take in about 800-1000 calories a day, but that is different for everyone I'm sure. I was directed to take in about 60g of protein a day. Take a good multivitamin and maybe a calcium supplement as well. Your doctor may have already told you this. I like the protein shakes called EAS: Advantage Chocolate Fudge. They taste good and they have 17g of protein with only 110 calories. I am so excited for you!!! I am still learning how to use my band. It is definately a learning process. Good luck and I wish you all the best  -

Hello everyone. My name is Jennifer. I had to complete a year long program which included a counselor, dietician, and personal trainer with exercise 3x a week before my insurance would pay for the band. Over that year I lost 42 lbs and was proud of my accomplishments, but knew I needed more help than I could give myself. I was banded on 4/7/09 in Shreveport, LA by Dr. Merriman. I do not have any Fluid in my band yet, but I have now lost about 17 lbs--totally unexpected for 6 days post op! I am still really sore in my stomach, but not too much. I am back at work. I guess im just not sure what I am feeling in my tummy yet. It seems like I get full with just a small amount of food. That feeling usually lasts for a few hours. I can only have non-chunky Soups, pudding, Jello, yogurt, and other liquids like that--all low fat and sugar free of course. I have been trying really hard to make sure I do not eat too much. I did eat a bite of chicken and a french fry a couple of days ago and had no problems getting it down after chewing it well. I felt really bad after I ate it bc I thought, "Crap, now that I know that I can get it down, I will probably overindulge in those types of foods even though I am suppossed to eat soft soups and things right now." I told my husband not to let me do that again. lol I figure if they told me to eat a certain way right now, I guess its for a reason. I guess I will learn to use my band as a tool, but right now I just feel really new at all this. I hope to continue to lose the weight fast and to gain a new healthy life. I am 6 feet tall. My highest weight ever 348 lbs. Weight at the end of the program year 313 lbs. Weight the day I was banded about 317 lbs. Current weight 300 lbs. Questions for other--- 1. Was anyone else unsure of the feelings of being full? 2. Did anyone else feel like they were just on a strict diet at first? 3. Is it unusual to lose 17 lbs in six days? 4. How long does the soreness last? Thanks for reading and good luck to others!!!

Port location and Pain
jenhrvy20 replied to Persona363's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on week post op and my port incision is very tender. When I lean over or move a certian way it is very uncomfortable. It seems like it is pulling on the inside or something. I think another week and we will feel better.
