  1. I went for my first fill today and completely forgot to ask! GRRRRRRRRRRR! but i just think that i'm going to talk to my regular dr and get back on allopurinoll. i was on it for a while..then some insurance thing happened and my dr wanst in my provider network..so i just stopped going for a refill...but they got things fixed now. so i guess i'll have to go and see her for a refill. JMS- did your dr give you a food list of things to avoid? its hard to follow now because we have to eat Protein 1st...and that is what gout sufferes are supposed to avoid. :scared2: I hear that cherry pills help keep uric acid levels down...basically any dark berries help too. good luck!
  2. Ok, now I'm worried. I suffer from gout (after about 6 months of no gout symptoms, I had a flare up last week) My primary dr prescribed me the max motrin dosage per day. then moved up to indomethacin. that is a very strong NAISD. after about two doses of that med my intestines take a beating...but i'm worried now that i have been banded. I did remind my primar dr that I just recently had lapband surgery, and asked if these pills were ok for my stomach pouch. He said he didnt see any reason why there would be a problem, but to be careful. Also when i start to get early "gouty" symptoms, I start taking motrin max doses to prevent a flare up. I have not had my first fill yet, I go in tomorrow April 2nd. so wow... i'm a little nervous now that after this fill these meds will cause problems. yikes!

    Texas hello!

Hi all! My name is Dina! I'm getting ready for my surgery on Monday the 2nd of March. crossing fingers that all goes well for me! although i see most people doing the diet for 2 weeks, I just started my liquid diet. last week i did atkins and this week liquids. i origianlly was going to do gastric bypass... long story short...i freaked out when approved and decided to band. so when i made the appointment to switch over to the lapband, he had no issues and asked that i lose as much weight as possible. and try to liquid one maybe two meals a day. So last week i did liquid breakfast and lunch...and ate protien for dinner (but it wasnt low fat )...and i goaled that since i was getting use to not eating as much, that i would do the liquid diet this week. i'm now day 2. Its hard....but i'm hanging in there...my energy is low and i'm not sure exactly what i'm feeling... its different than hunger...kinda like...um...i dunno? empty? But....my weight at the end of December was 350. i'm not sure how much i have lost...i know i've lost a bit because my clothes are loose now. i hope that my "last " efforts to liquid diet this week aren't in vain. I'd hate to wake without the band. But i wish you all luck and can't wait to get to know y'all better!

    Great News Today

    Way To Go!!!!
  5. I'm home and doing well.... the Dr and nurses said that the procedure went really well. and the dr said that my efforts to shrink my liver were not in vain! that i did a "good job". yeah! my operation was at 1:00 and i left the hospital at 8:30 p.m. i'm doing good now. drinking water and crystal light. (fruit punch) which i don't really like. I want the premade and my mom got me the mix. i've made a request for some apple juice when everyone gets home....so my tastebuds are anticipating heaven! lol My pain is not to bad,...just a bit sore. I'm on hydrocodene (15 mls every 4 hrs) and i don't take the promethaqzine anymore..i really didn't need it. i just took off the big white elastic thingy for the first time, but i will put it on again soon. its just seems to hold things tight and comfortable. i'm sleeping really well. also my shoulders arent huritng like people said theirs did after surgery...i have no idea why. i peiodically do my deep breathing (with that thingy that measures your breaths). but my first time doing that at the hospital after surgery i was already at the same level as i was pre op. the respritory therapist was plesantly surprised. So with the Lords help i will have a plesant recovery and catch up on some books/movies i've been wanting to read/see. If any of you have advice, that would be great....and much appreciated. OH i know... i havent purchased a multi vitamin yet...should i be taking a vitamin with calcium? or should i take a vitamin and a calcium pill? One thing for sure...i cannot wait to be able to be on full liquids....i have a feeling that this last week of clear liquids is going to be killer on me. thanks agiana to all for any and all advice you have for me!
  6. sorry but i had left the previous message on my own page yesterday.....still learning this forum.

Went to the dr today and had my pre op stuff done.

have to drink something on sunday at noon that sounds kinda gross! lol to "clear me out" and i'm sitting here wondering what exatcly they want to clear out since i've had nothing but protien shakes and broth to eat.

but hopefully all will go well!

    Hope you are doing ok.

    type at ya soon!

  7. Oh gosh....CRAVINGS!!! lol i hear ya!

I just some jello so i'm "ok" right now.

If you don't mind me asking how much weight do you have to lose? Last time i was weighed, i was at 350. that was at the end of december.

God i hate to even type that, but this whole process has been such an eye opener for me. I think i had the exact opposite of anerexia...my image of myself was so distorted that i never saw how big i really was.

Today i boiled chicken for everyone. added some carrots and onions gave the goods the the family and drank some broth. it was yummy.

having people nearby who have had the surgery as well has been a big help. and inspiration. since my boss is pretty much 7 weeks ahead of me, i ask her all sorts of questions.

if you would like we can exchange phone numbers and text or chat.

no pressure....and i hope i don't freak you out! lol the internet is a scary place.

wozers,i need to get to bed! lol

have a great day and hang in there!!

  9. Gonna join the bandwgon here... my op date is March 2nd...Lord willing. and luckylosers is WAY CUTE btw! gotta grab that graphic!
  10. Hey guys, my surgery is scheduled for March the 2nd, and I've been low carbing it since last Monday. My dr said to just do strick to low carb (low fat) and drink a shake for a meal or two if I can. My concern is that although I am doing a very strick low carb diet, I am not watching the fats. (i love beef ..oh and cheese) Is this going to be a major factor in my liver not shrinking? This coming week do you suggest that I do liquid diet only instead of what I have been doing? I would hate to get all the way into the operating room only to wake up without a band. thanks in advance for all help! Dina

    will my liver shrink?

Ok well i guess i'll start the liquid diet and call the dr to see what he'll say about my diet last week. origianlly i was going for gastric bypass, and the dr wanted me to lose 50 lbs. and i tried honestly i did....but after 3 days...i was not good for anything. so i saw the dr and told him. he said to try my best to drink one meal and low carb and low fat the rest of my meals. a week after i saw him i got my approval letter for the bypass, and i freaked out. then the nurse called and asked if i had anticiapated a date for the surgery....instead.... i scheduled another visit with the dr and switched over to the lapband quick. At that point he told me to keep doing what i was doing...but to try and lose as much weight as i could. SOOOooooooo... i think i should suck it up and do the liquid diet this week untill my surgery. but i'll call just to check about last week with him. thanks for all the advice....believe me....it is much appreciated!
