Sleeve revision via UC Davis Med center?
lorden88 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi All, I wanted to see if anyone has had a sleeve revision using UC Davis medical center in Sacramento and if so do you have any tips or suggestions on your process? I had a sleeve performed by Kaiser over 11 years ago but lately have put on excess weight and am considering a revision surgery. Thank you, Michael -
Hi Everyone, I am new to the site and am going to be with Kaiser through CalPers. I was in a year long process to have the Lap-Band procedure but after months of testing, dietary classes, food journals, loosing all the prescribed pre-surgical weight, and having a surgery date, the head of the bariatric unit of UC Davis decided that the Lap-Band was not up to snuff and canceled all Lap-Band procedures. Because I have IBS I am not a candidate for gastric bypass. He told me I am a great candidate for VSG however, my current HMO will not cover the VSG. I was devastated needless to say but I am switching to Kaiser this January. I wanted to know if anyone with Kaiser through the State of California has had VSG procedure? If you have will you please let me know. Thank you so much! Michael:001_rolleyes:

Incisions are getting itchy and glue is coming off
lorden88 replied to jenn20's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too had the glue but nothing else and they almost all fell off by the 3rd-4th week. I was itching like crazy just days after surgery and was told not to fuss with the glue at all. I used Benadryl spray and it was a lifesaver. I just sprayed it right on and it worked and didn't affect my glue at all. I also sometimes at night would crush a Benadryl pill and eat it with applesauce to keep from waking up in the middle of the night itching. I found myself waking up and unconsciously scratching away at my incisions and was loosening the glue. The pills worked great as well but made me sleepy. Good luck and call your doctors office if you are concerned. -

I too had the glue but nothing else and they almost all fell off by the 3rd-4th week. I was itching like crazy just days after surgery and was told not to fuss with the glue 'stitches' at all. Good luck and call your doctors office if you are concerned. As far as them coming off, mine seemed to come off at night when I slept. I woke up a few times to see them in my bed sheets. Kind of a gross find but it was painless. One came off when I was putting on a shirt. Again, I was told by Kaiser not to touch them or try to take them off myself whatsoever and not to use any sort of creams on my incisions until I was at least 4 weeks post-op. -
I'm scared ill never be off mushies!

Hi fellow brother and sister sleevers. I am a little sacred and am hoping you might be able to help me out. I am four weeks and 3 days post op. Three days ago the dietitian moved me to 'soft foods' and wanted me to start consuming Protein at every meal like deli meat, tuna, canned chicken, tofu...I have been fine with Soups, cream of wheat, mashed veggies, and all purred foods (including deli smoked turkey and chicken breast) but I am having extreme nausea and lots of discomfort with any sort of meat. I am beginning to feel like ill have to eat only purred foods for the rest of my life...Did any of you experience this? I am getting quite blue and a kind of scared:scared0:. Up to this point I have been doing well but this is like really upsetting. And I have been chewing and chewing and measuring.... Thank you for any suggestion or just reassurance you can provide that someday I will be able to eat somewhat normal food again. -

Thank you Swiftflow, Qured, and Tiffykins, this has been one of the roughest weeks for me. I am just having an incredibly hard time transitioning to soft solids. Much more then I ever imagined but it's so encouraging to hear your replies. Thank you all for putting me at ease! Michael -
Kaiser N. Cal anyone in the Sacramento area?
lorden88 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All, I am in the beginning stages of starting the process for the VGS through Kaiser in Richmond Ca. I live in Sacramento and just wanted to see if there are any other folks on here from my area. I have had my consult with the surgeon and will be going in for my psych evaluation in a few weeks here. If anyone has gone through the VGS process at the Kaiser Richmond Center and has any tips, suggestions, or any advice I would be grateful to hear from you. :001_tt2: In addition if you are aware of any Kaiser Bariatric support groups that meet in the Sacramento area or are interested in carpooling to one of the support groups in Richmond let me know. I am a Kaiser member and they will do an STD blood panel if you are sexually active. You have nothing to be fearful about, There are millions of people living with Herpes who have surgery and are just fine. From a medical stand point I would share this information with the surgeon especially if you are taking any medication. Good luck and I am sure you will do just fine! -

Hi exnavy82, In Sacramento here and went through the Kaiser in Richmond CA. I am 3 days post op and still pretty sore but know it will all be worth it in the end. -
Hi everyone, i just had my sleeve surgery Tuesday and I am still full of gas. I have burped a little here and there but have not passed any gas and am having lots of gas pain. Can anyone tell me when you finally started to pass gas and feel less bloated? Thank you so much, Michael

Thank you everybody for the replies. I have not had a BM yet but I took Milk of Mag the day before surgery (per Kaisers orders) and that really cleaned me out so to speak. I am trying to walk as much as I can I am just in such pain it is very slow going. I'll try to walk more and more. When i got out of bed at eh hospital I felt as though I pulled something inside open and I have been incredibly sore in that spot ever since. I mentioned it to them and they looked at my incision and felt everything was ok. However, prior to this I was walking more and in less pain. Michael

Pcindy, you bring up a great point. I am having my VGS surgery through Kaiser and they required us to fill out and turn our AD prior to scheduling the surgery. I think this is there policy for all surgeries they perform. It was a great opportunity not only for me to express my wishes to my loved ones, but to also hear their wishes as well. Although I pointed that they needed to fill out an AD as well. But I think its great that I was able to let them all know that I wanted my organs donated and what I want done if I am on life-support Thank you for your wisdom pcindy.

Hi Chrissy, I am glad you started a Sacramento Kaiser thread here. I am hoping someone can tell me when the next support group will be held at the Point West center? I am suppose to attend one before my surgery and was under the impression that there was one being held this Sat June 26th. Can anyone confirm that??? Thank you! -

Hey guys, I just wanted to double check on a support group meeting in the Sacramento area (Kaiser Point West)....Is there a meeting scheduled for this Sat 6/26? I have gotten a few conflicting dates... Thank you! -
Do you have insurance that approved the sleeve?
lorden88 replied to karaserene1985's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There is an HMO here in California called Western Health Advantage that covers the sleeve and my current HMO Kaiser Permanente that is covering my sleeve surgery 100%. -
Thank you Lee for clearing up the options class. I seems odd that it is only a requirement down south but I am not complaining. Also, thank you for your words of encouragement and the great things you said about Dr. Baggs. I am suppose to be assigned my case manager on Monday and an getting more excited by the day!

Thank you Ash for this delicious recipe! I have made it twice and I used fresh Jalapenos and lots of cilantro. I just removed the seeds so it wouldn't be too spicy.

Kaiser N. Cal anyone in the Sacramento area?
lorden88 replied to lorden88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
:001_rolleyes:Thank you all who have replied to my post. I am feeling a bit anxious and lost with this process. I have seen in other Kaiser member posts that they were required to participate in an 'Options" class. Is this something that any of you have had to take and if so should I sign up now or will this have to wait until I am at my pre-surgery weight? In addition is there any other Kaiser requirements I can try to accomplish while I am getting down to my goal weight you can tell me about? Thank you, Michael -
Hi Maddie, I started using a C-PAP just over one year ago. My doctor prescribed a mild sedative for me to use when I first started using it to make the transition a little easier. I was miserable the first week or so but finally was able to get use to it. Now I really notice a difference in my energy level if a skip a night. It has really helped me feel much more rested.
