Luckily mine had not slipped but they could not tell because of the herniation, until I had a complete unfill and waited for a month. After a month, my dr did a refill under floriscope and said it had not slipped and the herniation seemed to have corrected itself. He said it prob herniated because it was to tight, He only put in 3 cc in my 10 cc band and I am going back in Aug to have in filled to to 4 cc or maybe a little less, since I don't seem to tolerate higher amounts. I have stared losing weight again, something I had not done in almost a year, and am down abou 2 1/2 pds since my refill. The way he explained it to me is that a herniation is not a slippage, but a pouch that forms above the band. the food was sitting in the pouch and that is why I was having reflux, it was not going to my stomach and when Iaid down, acid was forming and making it come back up. I ws having pain also, but just thought it was because I tend to eat to fast, and think that had something to do with the herniation, makes sense that if I crammed food and it had no place to go it made another pouch. I havenot had reflux or pain of any kind since my refill. Hopefully you will have the same outcome. I have been trying to slow down my eating, but still catch myself gobbling food down, which is how I been eating for years, because while I worked we only had 15-30 minutes to eat lunch, and I just got used to eating as fast as I could so I could do other things if I had to on my lunch break. I had 2 upper gi's a week apart 1 before they unfilled and 2nd to see if it looked like a slippage, but I am not sure what EGD is, just looke dit up, says it is scope of stomach, and did not have that. Good luck and let me know how it goes. If you have any more questions let me know. How long have you had the band?

Wishin4, why didn't they take all of your fill out? It has been a month since they took mine out, and I was refilled to 3, on a 10 band yesteday, was at 4.6 at top. If you read back on this thread you will see that they couldn't tell if the band had slipped or just created a pouch above because it was too tight. The pouch corrected itself and the band is still in place after they took all fill out for a month and I had no reflux last light after the refill, and also no pain, which I was having previously. I always eat to fast and I think that is part of the problem, so am trying to slow myself down and chew more. I was eating more with the fill out, but managed to only gain 1 pd in the month, and I think that may help me get back to loosing, and make it to my goal of 155. I have only lost 8 pds since last Oct when I first started having problems. I don't want to loose the band, it is the first time in my life I have felt in control, and if it takes the band to make me fill that way, I want to keep it. I don't like to give advice, but if I was you, I would ask the dr to remove all fluid and give your band a break like I had. Maybe it will help you like I think it will help me. Some of us are evidenetly more sensitive to the band, per my dr, and can not get as large of a fill without problems. -

I posted last week and told you I would post again after my 2nd upper GI. Able to get it today, so I would know if had to cancel vac, but dr said it was ok to go, just keep their card and call if I had any ab pain or reflux. 1 full week with none, no symptoms at all, but stomach still looks same in test, so we are waiting 3-4 weeks, then he is going to refill some under floriscope and see what it does. If I have any symptoms before then, he bandied about the s word(surgery)and said they may have to go in and look to see what is happening. Hopefully, I can keep my meals small enough that I don't gain, but I don't get the hungry all the time feeling I used to, and actually lost 1 pd this week. The dr who did my upper GI said it looked sort of like a hiatal hernia, but sorta doesn't mean is, and I think if it is, they have to do a revision or try to move band. Tina did you get to your dr yet? Wife mom did they take the fluid out of your band? -

Your stomach growling may be just gas, I had a lot after surgery and took generic gas-x for about 3 weeks afterwards, and it may be just hunger. If you were like me, I didn't know what hungry felt like, and very seldom do i now and I have been banded 2 years. I do not get the stomach rumbling for food even if I don't eat for 10 or 12 hours, so maybe I don't have that gene-haha. Liquids means anything you can blend up to creamy, unless they said clear liquid, then you want to stick with broth and clear soups, just no chicken with rice or vegetable soup unless it is pureed. I bought some flavored protein drinks that had 20 grams at the health food store, weren't great, but got me through the first few weeks. -

I had reflux for about the last month, first maybe once a night, got progressively worse, night before went to dr, woke me up 7 times. I had gone to my reg phys and she wanted me to have a scope of my esophegus, because she said there had to be something wrong since I had been on Nexium since the last episode. Upped my nexium to 2 a day. I called my bariatric surgeon same day and made appt for next week, even with 2 nexium a day it got worse. Slept in recliner for about 2 weeks, which did at first seem to help, but night I had 7, was in recliner. Hopefully yours is some kind of hormone thing attached to your period. I have read alot of people say they have reflux, and everything was ok, but then this happened and I think everybody should have it checked especially if it progresses rapidly. Leaving on vac after my test next week, if everything is ok, so will post what they say 2 weeks, unless I don't get to go. -

Tina-you also need to see a dr as suggested. The same thing happened to me and went to my surgeon yest, sent me for upper gi, and discovered my stomach had herniated up above my band. Ony had 2 fills also but last one was 2 months ago. After 1st had bad cough for 6 weeks, found out that was also reflux, so had that taken out didn't get another for 8 months, then reflux again. I had no pain just the night reflux, so you really need to be checked to make sure it is not a slippage. If you don't know what herniated means, PA said it looks light my band was too tight and my body made a pouch above the band for the food to go, since it all couldn't get through. I am wait and see now have another barium next fri to see if it has shrunk, don't know what happens if it hasn't. They took all my fluid out and the only dif I can tell is no reflux last night, so far haven't ate the house down, but am staying on mushies and fluids til next test. I don't mean to scare you with this, but reflux is a sympthom that something is wrong. -
I have a slippage I found out yesterday with herniation, and I had no pain at all. My only sympthom was reflux that continued to escalate even though I was taking 2 nexiums a day(Per dr instructions) and only went to my surgeon to have some fluid removed yo see if it resolved reflux. So it is possible to not know you have a slippage. I have read a lot of threads with people who had reflux, so I just thought it was because of a recent fill. If you have reflux, do not think it is normal, it is not.

Hi everybody, First time on website but had band since Oct 2007 and have a question I can't find answer too. Only had 1 fill, 6 weeks after surgery, may have been 3.5 or 4 in 10 cc lapband, PA says 3.5 entered on chart, but she can draw out 4. About 6 months ago had chronic cough for 6 weeks, discovered if was reflux, so they took out .65 to see if it resolved. Did great with cough but only lost 4 pds in 6 months, so went back this week to have fill put back. Short story, was too tight, went back and had same amount of unfill Thur after not being to able to eat or drink for 2 days. Questions-has anybody that had overfill and unfill had problems with feeling of food not moving down and chest ache after unfill. I am hoping this is just because of swelling from overfill and vomiting and will only last another day or so, but didn't feel instant relief like I have seen other people post. Good news, I lost 4 pds in 2 days and since I feel like I just got banded am only able to eat a few bites at of time and am sticking to soft foods. Haven't thrown up since unfill, but did have mild reflux during the night and have not had that before ever.

Thank you Ally. My pain has subside a lot today, and I was also able to get a protein shake down. I think it was like you said and just swelling, I guess we all have to learn by doing.

Thanks Bamagal. I will just tough it out for a few more days. I am on nexium for reflux, but have never had any symtoms except for coughing at night. I had PB's the last 2 nights, so I will check and see if I can take Prilocsec along with the Nexium and spread them out over the day.
