  1. Hey baylorjai, thanks so much for the well wishes, I am as ready as I can be, bag is packed and I almost feel lik I shoudl go sit in the truck and wait for Wednesday...LOL

The pre Op diet is tough, I won't lie to you but you can do it, like I have. The first couple days I was wondering what I got myself into but I am as strong willed as I can be so I just focused on my job, being the best nurse I could be and before I knew it, I was well into the 14th day. If I can do it anyone can, its all about committment and what's most important to ones self. I will drop you a line when I get home from the hospital and let you know the details. I took 2 weeks off work so I will have plenty of time for this site. Lighterload

  2. Hey baylorjai,

Just keeping in touch. I am 4 days out from surgery and I am so excited. Day 18 of the pre Op clear liquid diet and I am ready for something more. I am scheduled for surgery at 6am Wednesday morning. Not scared one bit and I guess that's because I'm a nurse and I have had several surgeries already. Wishing you well, keep in touch, Lighterload

  3. Hey Socalfosh,

Just keeping in touch. I have 4 days until surgery, here in Arizona and I am so anxious. I am not nervous at all and will be glad to get something more than clear liquids. The best part is this is the beginning to my new lifestyle. I am also looking forward to the 2 weeks recovery time I took off from work.

Hope all is well, stay in touch. Lighterload

  4. Hey GitsMardi,

How are things going for you?

I have 4 days until surgery and I will be so glad to get something more than clear liquids. I have been doing my clear liquid pre Op diet for the past 18 days. It was tough but I survived without cheating even once. I am packed and ready for the hospital, actually looking forward to the 2 week recovery time I took off work. Keep in touch, Lighterload

Less Than A Week To Banded

Tig, I am happy for you. I know you are ready. I will be banded on Wednesdy, March 25th, here in Mesa, AZ. I too, am making preparations for my absence from the office. I am absolutely sure no one will keep up with things while I am out for 2 weeks, so I won't be disappointed when I get back thinking things would be up tp date.........LOL I am so ready, this is day 18 of the "just liquids" diet, three more to go. Its been tough but I won the battle being as committed as I am. You keep in touch and good luck with your banding. Lighterload
  6. I am 4 days out from surgery, and was put on a 21 day clear liquid pre Op diet. I can have nothing but sugar free clear liquids and 80 gms. of liquid protein each day.:w00t: Today is day 18 and I can honestly say I have not cheated one time nor have I even thought about it. I have not been hungry at all and I know I have shrunk my liver. I look forward to surgery on Wednesday morning at 6am.
  7. Doodlebug, I am so very sorry to hear about the your breathing problems and the bacteria that causes ulcers? I am speechless, I am a registered nurse and I can tell you that I have not heard of this one. I was looking forward to chatting with you after our bandings. Don't give up the ship yet, your next visit could prove to be positive and you will go to surgery as planned.

I am into day 18 of the 21 day liquid diet. I don't know how much weight I've lost but I know my britches are getting loose. I am packed for the hospital and have 3 more days of this liquid diet.

I will pray that things work out for you, keep in touch, Lighterload (Janet)

  8. What kind of scooter are you ridin? I rode a Harley for years, until I got to big for the bike but I am in the process of fixing that.

  9. When my Nutritionist told me it was time to begin the 21 day pre Op Bariatric diet, I did not think much other then this was getting me closer to my surgery date. No one told me that those liquid Protein Bullets and Shots tasted like the something from Planet MARS. I quickly learned to hold my nose and downed them, followed by a flavored water, so not to taste that nasty bullet.:w00t: Three days into this, the "brain extracting" headache fell upon me. Oh my and nothing releived it! After three days, it passed and the south end of the digestive track was having issues.Another thing no one warned me about.:tt2: Oh and by the way, I was told this south end issue will last for about 8 weeks since nothing solid is going in. I believe I have been so focused on the headache and south end issue that I did not realize I am into day 12 already and I only have 9 more days to go before my surgery date on March 25th. If I can do this, anyone can! It may be tough in the beginning but remember the reward in the end and that is priceless.:cool2:
  10. Hey baylorjai, the best advice is to find a Protein shake or bullet that you like, because you are going to be on them for awhile. What you are doing now is wise, everyone should prepare in such a manner. I am into day 12 of my strictly liquid, pre Op diet and I have learned that I should have searched out the taste of a Protein liquid that I liked. I bought 7 cases on line so I am going to use them as I hold my nose and down them....yuck I am never hungry so that's a great thing. There are no more surprises you will encounter other than those I listed above. Good luck and keep in touch. Lighterload:smile:
  11. Hey justme2u, this is your journey, don't let any one take that away from you. 28 pounds is 112 sticks of butter lost, now that's impressive. Learn to understand not everyone is educated on this whole process, most are ignorrant until they learn or decide to take a journey like you have. It sounds to me like you are working the program well, keep it up. If you really think people who look at you as you described, are intending to be mean or inappropriate, I suggest finding new friends. You are doing fabulous!!!
  12. Hey doodlebug11, how are you? I am 9 days out from having my bad placed. The pre Op diet is not fun but I am making it through fine. Since my surgeon has me on a strict liquid diet, I have learned creative ways with little. I added some spicy V8 to my broth and called it dinner. Jello has become my lunch and I sip water tainted with the liquid Protein bullets all day long. I feel good now but the first week was tough. Looking forward the banding on March 25th- Ligheterload

  13. Thanks so much for the idea and your words of wisdom, socalfosh

Has anyone done the pre op diet for 3 weeks?

I have a surgery date of March 25th. :w00t: At last weeks support group I was absolutely shocked when everyone announced their weight losses since beginning their pre Op diet. Of course I will not be left out and thought I would do 3 weeks of the pre Op diet rather than the 2 weeks that my surgeon requires, so I could get a jump start. I have been on it three full days now and I must admit, its not easy but I am bound and determined to continue. Any one else do the 3 weeks of protein bullets and clear sugar free liquids? Get a headache from withdrawal?

    canadianurse

Hey kookaburra64, I hear the Dr, Jose Rodriguez in Juarez does a lot of Lap Bands and from all I have heard he is excellent. I believe he charges about $6000 from ones that I have talked to at support groups. I would look him up and check him out before you make any final decisions. I know a lady from Alberta that waited 4 years to be approved there and finally went to the media, raised holly hell and they finally approved her. She is here in AZ half the year and I met her at Support Group. I wish you the best in your venture. I am on the pre Op diet right now and I will be banded on March 25th. Good Luck and keep in touch.........

    canadianurse

Hello Canadianurse, from an Arizonanurse. Who is the surgeon doing your banding in Mexico? When are you scheduled for banding? I hear it is not only very expensive to have this done in Canada but I hear you wait for ever to be approved.
  17. Lighterload

    Finally Im getting banded :)

You will do fine through your surgery, there is nothing to be afraid of, you will be asleep, and when you wake you will be sore for awhile but will be given pain medication to make that discomfort tolerable. I am having my surgery on March 25th, but this is not the first surgery for me, I have had my share. You will be fine and welcome to the site.

    Hello!

Go to the web site that is posted right above the tickler tracker and it will lead you through the steps. Good Luck and thanks for the lift in spirits as I am approching my surgery date on March 25th. Its been a 6 month work-up and I am doing the liquid protein clear liquid diet right now...............ugh

    Pre-op diet

Every physician is different in the pre Op diet they put you on. I am on the 21 day Liquid protein bullets, and just clear liquids, to shrink my liver prior to surgery on March 25th. I know people who did not lose the weigth on the pre Op diet and they were denied surgery that day and booked weeks later as they had to diet again to shrink the liver. I would suggest doing the liquid protein with clear liquids, to be sure you lose the weight they have required you to lose, or your surgery could be delayed and no one wants that after waiting so long initially.

    weight history requirements

I did not have to do a 6 month diet but after researching, it is purely a insurance requirement, to see how committed one is to dieting. It depends on your insurance company. My insurance company wanted to see records that I was on a physician monitored diet and lost at least 10% of my body weight, and this had to be within the last 24 months. Then I had to show doctor visit records, showing that I have been over weight for al least 5 years, etc. Each insurance company has their our set of requirements. hang in there, the 6 months will go by quickly.

"The Waiting Is The Hardest Part"

Be patient, the insurance company took the longest for me, and I have Blue Cross too. I had everything done that they required and I was still denied twice, for silly things like the doctor signed the progress note but there was no name of his practice on the paper...good grief! I kept on pushing, feeling that Blue Cross was hoping I would throw the towel in. That made me even more persistent. You are absolutely right when you say that waiting is the hardest part, its so frustrating. Know that once every requirement gets to your insurance company, they have a month to decide. I worked on my approval for alomst 6 months before they approved and it was right after my deductible had to be met again for the next year. Rather than let it bother me, I decided it was better to have to pay the deductible than to have to pay for the whole surgery.

Has anyone done the pre op diet for 3 weeks?

You hit the nail on the head, it was three long miserable days but it is gone now and I can focus on the liquid diet for another 17 days. I am confident the results will be rewarding.:cursing:

Has anyone done the pre op diet for 3 weeks?

Well thank you for responding.:cursing: Very supportive to know there is someone else going through the same as I am right now. The first two days were tough with the headache from carb withdrawal, OUCH! It was like the worst sinus headache I have ever experienced. After the third day it was tolerable. I am on day 4 now and can feel the difference for sure. I have my pre Op appointment this Tuesday, which is when my surgeon will put me on the 2 weeks liquid diet, but he doesn't know I will have a week under my belt already. It will be encouraging to step on the scale and see what reward this first week brings. Please do keep in touch so we can chat as we walk this path together.:cursing:

    Getting closer!

I admire your committment to being banded and all that goes with it. May I suggest that when your friends make neagtive comments, don't get annoyed and want to smack them, educate them, about the change in lifestyle you chose. You will be surprised at the change in attitude. Good Luck
