  1. Glad to hear that you're doing so great! My second fill went well too. Turns out that I actually had 2 ccs in from when they primed at the surgery, which is why it was so tight with the extra 3 ccs. Now I have a total of 3 ccs and I feel a littled restriction too. I'm still eating less than before surgery, but I'm looking forward to even more restriction. I'm down a total of 39, so I'm happy with that. I was great with walking and working out in the beginning, but the last month has been hard. I'm going on vacation next week and plan to do a ton of walking!! How about you? I'm so excited that I'm just starting to fit in non-plus sized clothes. What a NSV!! Looking forward to hearing about your progress!!!

  2. Hi! Long time since I've checked messages! Did you have your next fill? Sorry to hear about the chugging adventure. Thanks for the heads up. I go back next week for a fill and boy do I need it. With only .5 in, I can eat more than I'd like. My weight loss is crawling, but I'm happy that at least it's going in the right direction. Can't wait to hear how it was after the second fill. Do you notice a different? Look forward to the update!!

  3. Happy Birthday, Piper!

  4. How did your fill go? How are you feeling? I got my first fill on 6/23. My doc put in 3ccs and within a day, I found it difficult to get liquids down without pain in my chest. I thought maybe it was swelling, but I worried that I was too tight. On 6/26, my docs took out 2.5ccs, so I'm back to eating comfortably. I hope the weight loss continues! Hope everything is great with you--how's Piper? Chloe is doing great and she's excited that I have more energy these days.

    Oatmeal

I had the same think when I ate cream of wheat. I couldn't even get through one of the little packets and I had a tightness right under my breast bone. It went away on its own and I tend to think that I ate too much too fast. I'm move careful now to eat really, really slowly.
  6. 25 pounds?! That's fantastic!! (By the way, the JayRobb tropical dreamsicle is sooooo good. Chloe tries to drink it every time I make it. Has Piper taken an interest in your shakes too?) Don't worry about the pound. It's going to be a learning experience for us to eat with the band. I can't believe how little I eat before I'm ready to push the plate away--something I rarely did before. I just got back from Chili's and watched my family scarf as I ate one wedge of a quesadilla and that was it, I was full. I've been using my crock pot like crazy and making some low carb high protein stuff that's been pretty good. It's great to have people starting to notice. I'm down about 17 lbs and people I work with are suddenly stopping me and asking what I'm doing to lose the weight. It's so nice. Can't wait to hear about how things are progressing for you. Keep up the great work!!

  7. I'm getting my first fill on 6/23, so you'll have to give me the heads up on how it was. I'm such a wuss with needles, so I'm terrified of one going in my belly. I'm doing great! How about you? Hope that you're feeling great too. I started soft foods on Monday and it is just soooo liberating to be able to eat a little bit and then lose your appetite. Chloe keeps asking me if I'm getting enough protein--amazing how kids pick up on everything! How's Piper?

  8. I'm still on full liquids for another week. I don't know about you, but I'm so sick of Protein shakes and canned Soups that I needed a break. Not wanting to jeopardize the healing, I don't want to cheat and sneak a mushie. However, I needed some real flavor. Well, I found a great recipe for low fat potato and leek Soup that I made tonight. It did not disappoint. My DH could not believe that it was something I was allowed to eat because it was that good. For anyone else confined to full liquids (even if you're not), give it a try. Here's the recipe: 2 tsp canola oil 2 medium shallots, minced 3 medium leeks, sliced (white and light green parts only) 1 pound Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and chopped into 1-inch pieces 1 cup fat-free, reduced sodium chicken broth (or vegetable broth) 1 2/3 cups fat free milk (I used evaporated skim to give it an even more creamy texture) Freshly ground black pepper Dash of salt Heat oil in a large pot or Dutch oven. Add shallots, leeks and potatoes, and cook on a low to medium heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add chicken or vegetable broth and milk, and simmer half covered on a medium heat for 30 minutes, until the potatoes are tender. Transfer vegetables and some of the liquid to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Add more of the remaining liquid until desired consistency. Ladle into 4 soup bowls; season with black pepper and salt. Per Serving: Calories 170, Calories from Fat 24, Total Fat 2.7g (sat 0.3g), Cholesterol 2mg, Sodium 211mg, Carbohydrate 29.9g, Fiber 3.7g, Protein 6.7g Hope you enjoy! :wink2:
  9. I'm in the process of making another soup right now that I'll let you know about once it's done, for anyone who really misses ethnic cuisine, particularly Indian food. I found a recipe on Bariatric Eating for a bean soup with an Indian flair that I thought I would puree with the hand blender. If it comes out good, then I'll be sure to pass on the recipe. It's got really healthy ingredients and a ton of protein.
  10. Watch how quickly you're eating too. With the thicker soups, they stay in the pouch longer than the thinned cream soups. If you eat 1 1/2 cups of thick soup too quickly, then this could be the cause of the pain because the soup hasn't been able to quickly go through the stoma. I suppose it is going to take some time for us newbies to learn what our new stomachs can and can not hold at one time. Feel better!
  11. My NUT said that I needed to focus on getting the minimum grams of protein a day and that I could space it out throughout the day however was comfortable. I need 65 grams a day, so I make a shake in the morning and get 35 grams (24 from the protein powder and 11 from the 8 oz of skim milk plus). It takes me about 45 minutes of sips to get the whole thing down, but it makes me feel better to know that I have gotten over half of my minimum out of the way first thing. If I haven't gotten close to 65 by dinnertime with other stuff I've had during the day, such as yogurt, soups, etc., then I have another full shake with 8 oz skim milk plus at dinner. Good luck and find what works for you!
  12. Piper is adorable and I love that name. I have a 4 year old daughter, Chloe, and a 6 month old son, Aidan. I'm thankful that my little guy is small enough that I wasn't limited from holding him after surgery, but my daughter is having a hard time coping. She too wants to be held more than normal. It's really so much better when you can move on to more thick, pureed stuff. My doctor says "liquid" for 3 weeks post op, but in his list of "liquids", he says anything the consistency of baby food. You'll be amazed by how great applesauce tastes, really! I'm making a spiced cream of pumpkin soup later, and I can't wait for some new flavors. The post op visit was pretty uneventful. I had already taken my bandages off at home pursuant to doctor's orders. He checked the incisions, weighed me, gently felt the port area and talked to me about the diet. It was in and out and I am scheduled for my first fill on 6/23. Let me know how yours goes. Glad to hear that you're doing well too.

  13. Hi,

I saw that you and I have about the same weight goals and thought it might be fun to keep in touch and cheer each other on! Hope you're feeling good.

    Rachel

  14. Hi Teresa,

Sounds like a great idea! It's nice to know you're not alone in this. How are things going for you? I'm thrilled with the weight lost and how easily I get full now, but I'm so sick of liquid. I never thought that I would want so badly something as simple as a cracker.

Your daugther is beautiful! What's her name and how old is she?

  15. Hi Teresa,

Sounds like a fantastic idea! How are things going for you? I'm thrilled with the weight loss and the fact that I get full so quickly, but I'm really jonesing for food--enough of the liquids already!

Your daughter is beautiful! What's her name and how old is she?

    2 days post op

That's great! I had my surgery on May 11th. It took me about 5 days to feel okay, as the gas pain were really intense and made me feel like I couldn't breathe. Since then, I've been doing great--better than great. I'm down 11.5 pounds and in another week, I get to have something other than liquids!! Woo hoo! Best of luck to you on your journey. Rachel
  17. Hi . . . this is my first time posting and it was great to see so many other women who were banded at around the same time I was. I got mine on May 11th and I am finally starting to feel human again. Still have a little shoulder pain, but being able to have cream of wheat this morning instead of just SF jello made up for the pain. Hope you guys all continue to do well and hope to keep in touch as we go through this crazy journey together!
