Help please! Nightime eating out of control
JENNIFER7375 replied to Bandana's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ladies I'm also a night eater. I work 3rd shift at a fairly sedentary job. And I myself do really great all day but find myself wanting to pick all through the night. Id definitely like some support from people who are going through the same thing. And of course be as much help to you guys as I can! -
Anyone have the surgery not being 100 lbs overweight?
JENNIFER7375 replied to sandy00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had around 80 pounds to lose as well my BMI was somewhere around 38-39. My insurance covered my surgery because of high blood pressure and family history. For most insurances to cover under a BMI of 40 you need to have one or more health problems along with obesity. Hope this helps. Oh and even with them most require you pretty close to the 35 mark and 6 months of primary care physicians supervised attempt at weight loss . -
I was very tired for at least a month afterwards. I'd go wanna sleep whenever I wasn't at work.

Post Band Pain
JENNIFER7375 replied to savannahsmommie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used my vicodin for 3 or 4 days after my surgery. My port site was very painful. I took 2 weeks off of work. I'm a nurse so there's usually some lifting involved . But if I worked in an office I think I'd have been fine after a week. -
defending my band to someone who doesn't get it- what are good things to say?
JENNIFER7375 replied to Just Banded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cathy you hit it right on. I'm a nurse and worked in rehab for a time. I've often used that logic to explain food addiction to people. Could I have told one of my heroine addicts they were fine as long as they only shoot up once a day. Or a crack addict you'll be fine as long as you only smoke a few rocks? Naturally thin people don't understand what it's like to have an addiction to a substance that you can't eliminate from your life. If we could just stop eating and hit the gym don't they think we'd have done it a long time ago. And don't we all love the smug , superior tone thin people use when they tell us that? Like they're perfect and were lazy slobs with no self control -
Help! How long til I ask for an unfill?
JENNIFER7375 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went for my 2nd fill this past monday. I'm now up to 4cc in a 10cc band. I felt really tight and threw up a lot the 1st few days. I assumed this was due to swelling and would subside. Well lucky me , I got strep throat 2 days ago. So now I can barely keep anything down but liquids. Am I too tight or just still swollen from being sick? So my question is how long do I stick this out before I call the doctor? Right now I can't even keep down mashed potatoes. -
Help! How long til I ask for an unfill?
JENNIFER7375 replied to JENNIFER7375's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
a for the advice guys. I feel a little better today. I think it's a combination of being swollen & sick at the same time. & I'm gonna stick to soup for most of the day. If that goes well I might try some yogurt later on -
I think the post was a good one. I think when I see people say they're worried about scars or that they're too scared of needles to get fills it seems a bit whiny. None of us like throwing up or the getting fills. And I've got a surgeon that dosent believe in lidocaine. And yes there are people that have true severe problems from the band. I'm a nurse and I've seem 1st hand how terrible severe reflux can be. But for people that are worrying about scars and needle pokes. For those that the band truly works for those things are a relatively small price to pay . Would I rather have scars than be heavy. Heck yes . Would I rather have occasional vomiting & heartburn or look the way i do now and feel better about myself. Again hell yes.

what do u think????? life or temporary?????
JENNIFER7375 replied to 2Flyguys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Myself personally I eat healthy most of the time. But if I'm at a party or a family meal I do induldge a bit . But one of the great things about the band for me is even when I'm bad I can't be anywhere near as I was in the past. I used to be one of those people that just liked to eat. And was always on the go so I'd mindlessly stuff things in my mouth. I think the biggest benefit of the band to me so far is teaching me to eat slowly , chew and really enjoy my food. I was at a birthday party last Saturday . I ate a small piece of cake. Because I took my time I really enjoyed it. I was every bit as satisfied with that piece as I used to be with one 3x the size. Actually maybe even more so because I didn't feel all guilty afterwards I think a big part of this journey for slot of is establishing an eating pattern that's healthy but dosent control every aspect of life. So my advice to anyone is if you have a nagging cravingis to satisfy it and be done with it. For me part of getting thin is leading a normal life. And even the thinnest , healthiest people I know all believe in an occasional treat. -

i've only been banded for 2 months and so far i'm having farly decent success withit. but more and more i'm reading alot of posts on here from people hate the band. that have had so much trouble they've had it removed. or i've noticed alot people getting gastric sleeves. is there anyone who's had the band for a few years that still loves it. do you feel like you can eat normally if you chew properly? do you ever wanna have it removed? who's reached or is close to their goal without any major complications?

Is it cheating or eating like a normal person?
JENNIFER7375 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
earlier this week i had a craving for ice cream. not really sure why but just really wanted it. so i went to the store got a half gallon of rocky road. i ate a small dish. it satisfied the craving. i never went back for more. when my younger sister saw me eating it she accused me of cheating on my band, asked what was the point of the band if i was gonna cheat. i dont consider this cheating. i consider it normal. dont people that are thin already have an occasional snack. it really pissed me off. one of the worst things about my previous eating habits was the continuous guilt i felt over every bite i put in my mouth. thats part of how i got fat. you eat something thats bads for you, then you fell guilty over what you ate. the guilt then makes you depressed. then you eat again cause you feel depressed. i've tried really hard to overcome that vicious cycle. so i've tried to make an occasional guilt free indulgence part of my new life change. does anyone else feel this way. have family or co-workers that scrutinize every bite that you put in your mouth? -

Anyone Ever Fall Off the Pre-Op Diet?
JENNIFER7375 replied to Rangergirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i had a pretty hard time with the pre-op diet. the liqiuids didn't agree with me and i felt like i was starving. i stayed on course but i did cheat a few times. if you cheated don't beat yourself up. just get back on track as soon as you can -
i took 2 weeks off of work after my band. i was tempted to take just a week but i'm a nurse and there's some lifting involved at times. you should be ok with a week as your job's isn't very physical. but if for whatever reason you don't feel up to it don't hesitate to ask your doc for an extension. i felt pretty good but i was so tired the 1st couple weeks back! just take it easy and you should be good. and good luck on your surgery!

Onderland is WONDERFUL!!!
JENNIFER7375 replied to mljalways's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
CONGRATULATIONS! I hit hit it about 10 days ago myself and it is the best feeling! Go treat yourself. i bought myself 2 pair of size 14 "skinny jeans" and i love the way they look:thumbup: -
did you do liqiuds for 24-48 after your fill. my doctor has all his patients go on liquids for a da or so afyer the 1st fill. you may be too tight because you are swollen from getting filled. not that you are ncessarily overfilled. try liqids and then ease back to regular foods.

Is the lap band plastic surgery?
JENNIFER7375 replied to Weas123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the band is absolutely not plastic surgery. yes you do look better afterwards. but the primary purpose is to improve your health. not your looks! how great my jeans look is just an added bonus! -
just the thought of pureed meat makes me slightly nauseated. there was no way in hell i was gonna actually put it in my mouth. i ate alot yogurt and cottage cheese to get protein when on mushies. i also like tuna quite a bit so that helped as well

JENNIFER7375 replied to JENNIFER7375's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thank you so much for all the support ladies. you all understand where im coming from. i didnt get the band to spend my life dieting, i've been down that road and failed many times. i did it as a tool to help me get healthy. and to me part of being healthy is an occasional treat without guilt and rebound eating.if not for a reason to have every bite put under a microscope. if i do that im still letting my life revolve around found. and the other thing that bugged me is that after my sister ran her mouth she ate a huge dish of my ice cream! -
