    Re-Banding

I am wondering if anyone has had this experience>? My first band slipped after almost 3 years. I was so horribly sick, and in so much pain, I have been terrified to get rebanded. I have been almost 3 months without my band, and have been trying to keep my lost previously lost off. Of course, I am having a difficult time. My surgeon told me there is a newer band out, a wider band which can contain 14cc of solution. He said they are having better luck with "no slipping". I am now thinking of being "rebanded". Has anyone gone through this? Was the second banding successful? Thank you for any input!
  2. About 4 weeks ago it was discovered that my band had slipped. I had surgery to remove the band. The port stayed put, so if I decide to redo the band, that does not have to be redone. I am terrified to redo the band. I got sooooo sick from when the band slipped. I was not able to keep ANYTHING down, not even a sip of water. I was put in the hospital on IVs since I was so dehydrated. Now I am fighting with myself as to whether or not to redo the band. I am so afraid of this happening again!! Has anyone started from "Square One" after a lenghty amount of time. Were you successful the second go round. Does anyone have any words of wisdom for me. I am trying to contine on my own, but as you all know, you appetite can return so quickly!!

    Lap Band Slipped

I guess I am not totally sure of the difference, but after reading info - - it seems that the sleeve is almost like a bypass. It appears to be a much more invasive surgery. I am not sure I want to put myself through that!

    Lap Band Slipped

My fear is getting as sick as I was at the end. I may have had symptons of the slippage even before it was totally diagnosed with Upper GI & Chest Xrays. The last 2 months, I was sick all the time - - I felt like I could hardly ever leave the house. At the end I was so dehydrated, I was dizzy all the time - - and OH SO Weak!! It really scared me! I have never been so sick in all of my life!

    Lap Band Slipped

Thank you for the reply. I will certainly think about that. I am not only terrified to put the band back, but I am also terrified to put the weight back on!! It is certainly a "double-edged sword"!!

    Slipped LapBand

Last week, Friday (4/8/11) I had to go into the hospital to have the band removed from my stomach. The port remained in place in case I decide to have it redone. I have never been so sick in all of my life. I was so dehydrated they on to put me on fluid IVs. I could not keep anything down!! I have had my band for three years, and never had much of a problem, until now. No one could tell me how this happened, other than I had pneumonia, and almost coughed myself to death! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has been through this experience? If so, did you decide to be rebanded? I am terrified to try it again!! I am trying so hard to continue to eat healthy!! HEEEELLLLPPP!

    Slipped LapBand

Mimi Thank you for getting back with me. What is the difference between the LapBand and a Gastric Sleeve? I am just curious!
  8. I became very sick during the first part of the summer. This resulted in a swelling around my restriction (I had vomitted a tremendous amount of times), so I had to have an "unfill". After feeling so sick, to be honest, I was afraid to have a fill, even when I started feeling better. Long story short, I went all summer, and in so doing, I put on 10 lbs. I have now decided to "get serious" again. I went in for a fill yesterday, and today I am wondering if I made a mistake!! I feel horrible. I didn't sleep well last night, with the feeling of stomach acid in my throat. I made it to work, and got very sick expelling only bile from my stomach. Today I have sipped on 2 cups of tea, had a little protein drink, and have been sipping on water. My stomach is still hurting, my head hurts - - and I feel like I have a TERRIBLE hangover!! I have been banded since 2004 and I had lost over 80 lbs. I have never felt like this before. Has anyone were gone through this? And, do I need to just hold on?:rolleyes2:

    Am I slacking?

October 11, 2010. I have been banded for a few years now. I have lost almost 55 lbs., but most importantly, to me, is the fact I have gone from a size 22 to 14!! I am having a problem now that I need to work through. A few months ago I became very sick (Dr. thought it was the flu). I had quite a bit of vomitting. It was believed that my stomach had become irritated, and it affected my band. Came to a point where I could not keep anything down, not even water. Became very dehydrated, which made me even sicker. I went to Dr. to have a release. Now I am sooo fearful of having a fill. I was so sick!! I do not want to go back there. I need to start at square one. I know that, but now i am terrified to do it!! I need some help/encouragement!!.:cursing:
  10. I have had my band about 1 1/2 years. I currently only have a small fill (2or3 cc), however, I seem to have a constant pressure in the middle of my chest no matter what I eat or drink. I went back to eating mostly a liquid diet, and I have noticed I can not even drink much water. Has this ever happened to anyone, and how should I handle it? I have lost almost 60 lbs., but I am becoming extremely frustrated with my lap band - - and am ready to "chuck it". I feel like I never feel good anymore! Help!!:cursing::wub:

    Need Some Support

I am sorry you have hit a plateau, however, it was good to read someone else has been having the same problem I am. I was banded in 1/16/09, and it seems I have stopped losing weight! I have been exercising as much as I can, and it seems I hardly eat anything. I have started reading the blogs, and have decided to start at Square 1. My surgeon told be to drink 2 protein drinks a day, and eat a very small meal. He said to do this for several days to "jump-start" my metabolism. I will let you know how it goes. We just have to "hang in there" and not get discouraged!

    Beginning My Journey

Here it is 5/12/09. I was banded on 1/17/09. To date I have lost approx. 30 lbs. The weight is not coming off in leaps and bounds, but I also don't think I eat the right foods. I have decided TODAY so start working this plan WHOLEHEARTEDLY!! I am going to write down my foods, exercise, etc. Perhaps by keeping a journal of my journey, it will make me more aware of the pitfalls. Right now I know I have a tendency to eat "comfort" foods. At times the only thing that sounds good to me is either macaroni & Cheese or mashed potatoes. I know this doesn't help. Maybe someone out there could offer me some advice on menus.

    Beginning My Journey

I had my Lap Band Surgery on Jan. 17, 2009. I, too, studied - - researched - - and studied somemore. I was upset with all of the critea needed in order to be approved for the surgery. I actually tried to qualifiy in 2003, but my insurance company denied me. I did not pursue the surgery again until Jan. 2008. It took me one year to finally be approved !! As I look back now, I do believe all the critera is certainly important. This surgery is not something to be taken lightly, and certainly should not be looked upon as a "magical cure"!! IT is still alot of hard work!! I will be going for my first fill next week, 2/25/09. I am glad, because I am truly getting so hungry. I am still trying to eat small amounts, but the hunger is constantly there. I have lost 20 lbs. since my initial surgery, but it has been a slow process. This is how I want it, however, because I want it to last, and I am hoping my skin, etc., will adjust better to a slower weight loss. I have not been able to exercise much - - as I just had surgery on my knee. That was in December. I do want to hear from people if they had a slow beginning like me. I will see how things go after next week!

    Beginning My Journey

Thank you for responding. Truthfully, I have not been keeping a "running track" of calories. I have been trying to concentrate more on portion control. That has been my problem. I actually eat healthy food, but I am not good with portions. My nutritionist said I should concentrate on this initially. I make sure I get enough protein. Once I have my 1st fill on Wednesday, I am going to start paying better attention to calorie counting, because I believe my "portion control" will be handled for me. How have you done with your initial weight loss? I went back and reread the materials given to me at the hospital, and it said not to be too concerned with weight loss at first. You first job is to HEAL. Please keep me informed of your progress
